Overview

About the property

Cottage in Trujillo, Extremadura - Quiet, Almost Countrified Location, But Only 5 Minutes' Walk From Mediaeval Town Centre

El Pradillo is a stone cottage in a private 4 acre estate with fine views of Trujillo’s 11th- century castle and the Sierra de Guadalupe. Amazingly, although only a 5-minute walk from the mediaeval town centre, the estate's "green belt" location gives the impression of being in the country. Lots of birds (and the occasional rabbit) to be seen. The cottage is situated well away from the principal residence, ensuring privacy. The terrace (with retractable awning) provides outdoor breakfast/dining space, with views up to the castle and of the surrounding orchard. The fridge in the cottage will be stocked with breakfast necessities on guests’ arrival. Bath and swimming towels and all bed linen are included in the rental price. A washing machine, drying and ironing facilities are also available for guests’ use.

Trujillo has an extensive and exceptionally well-preserved mediaeval quarter, dominated by an Arab castle. The Plaza Mayor is one of the biggest and most picturesque in Spain and is surrounded by bars and restaurants. Trujillo is an excellent centre for visiting Caceres, Guadalupe and Plasencia; for bird lovers and hikers, the Parque Natural de Monfrague is not to be missed! And the swimming pool is there to help you relax at the end of the day...

Lovely Stay in Trujillo

  • 5 of 5

Another great stay in beautiful Trujillo. The house is perfect to come back to after a day walking or sightseeing and we really appreciated plunging into the pool to cool off and take it easy when we got back. The house is extremely well equipped and we enjoyed our evenings on the terrace and picking figs for breakfast the next day. The only thing it seemed to lack was a bread knife and the other kitchen knives are a bit blunt. A very small criticism, we love it there and fully intend to return for a third visit.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed the cottage once again. Thanks for the tip about the knives - I'll get a bread knife and a sharpener today! See you again soon...

Great location

  • 5 of 5

For two of us this cottage was great. Just a short walk into the delightful old part of Trujillo where there are plenty of places to eat and drink. Gloss Gin Bar in the main square was our favourite, despite its name. We had superb food and wine five times there then walked back by moonlight and sat looking up at the castle from our poolside. The cottage would be a squeeze for four people and the beds which double as sofas are very deep for sitting on but as we were on the terrace or by the pool whenever we were at the cottage and not sleeping, that didn't bother us. The main issue would be lack of privacy as the bathroom is through the bedroom and none of the internal walls reach the ceiling so every sound is audible. However we were very happy with our stay and would go again.

Idyllic holiday cottage for those who want nature and peace and quiet.

  • 4 of 5

Once I had got over the shock of the lane and the car drive down it wasn't so bad. we had a bad start as the car tyres couldn't grip on the grassy track and was just skidding about making it a nightmare to get up the drive. Once we had eventually managed to get the car to the big gate we left it up there and walked from the cottage. The cottage is small but very compact and clean. Loved the log fire which we needed as the weather wasn't very kind to us.In lovely surroundings and not far to walk into the main square for something to drink and eat. Near to supermarket and lovely scenery. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. only other note I would make is it says communal pool glad it wasn't hot as I wouldn't have been able to use it as all it is a big hole no steps so toddlers and elderly its a no go.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed the cottage and surroundings, in spite of the (unusually) poor weather. The pool needed some early season maintenance; the steps are now in place and the water getting warmer by the day, so there should be no further concern. We have had older people and families with children enjoying it -and the ping pong,- in the past and will make every effort to keep the facilities in good order.

Travel:

The nearest international airport is Madrid. Allow about 2 1/2 hours drive from the airport. Alternatively, there is a bus service to Trujillo, but getting from the bus station would require a taxi and a good knowledge of Spanish! It would also be a shame to miss out visiting the region. However, visiting Trujillo itself (and its bars and restaurants) can easily be done on foot, so no need to worry about driving home!

Distances:

Caceres and its World Heritage Old Town is about 45 kms away, Monfrague Natural Park 50 kms, Plasencia 80 kms, Guadalupe (home of the famous Black Virgin) 70 kms, Merida (with its Roman theatre complex) 120 kms.

There are several botegas and farms nearby, where you can see bulls being raised for the corrida and horses being trained for competitions.
