About Michele Jefferies

Richard is a Yorkshire lad and I am from Scotland, we purchased Beckwith farm in 2006 and have upgrade and redeveloped the original farm buildings allowing us to convert the old dairy into our holiday cottage.

Michele Jefferies purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Michele Jefferies chose Harrogate

We immediately fell in love with the location of Beckwith farm, it is in open countryside yet only 5 minutes drive to the centre of Harrogate, with all its wonderfully diverse attractions.

Squeak cottage was originally a dairy - used for bottling the milk produced in the adjacent barn.

In the last 6 years we have replaced and upgraded all our farm buildings which house our pedigree irish Connemara Ponies.

What makes this cottage unique

It is such a pleasure to be away from the madding crowd but conveniently close to all amenities :)

We often walk into Harrogate(30 mins) downhill to enjoy and evening out at the theatre/cinema or for a meal in the vast array of quality eating houses you can then get a taxi back for £6-10.

RHS gardens and Bettys famous tea-rooms are a 15 minute easy walk from Squeak cottage, as is access onto the Nidderdale Way.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lovely cottage, love the silence and top marks for cleanliness. Felt we were the first ever guests until we read the visitors book! C & P Essex 20/8/12

Comfy place to stay away from hustle and bustle

  • 5 of 5

I love staying in VRBO's because I truly hate hotels and I think the experience of a VRBO provides a more accurate slice of real life in a particular area. This place has all the comforts of home with no noisy neighbors. There is a great walking trail that takes you through the adjacent farms...be aware that you do have to climb over the short stone fences (there are steps to help) and the trail can be quite muddy and a little overgrown at times. One neighbor told me that this trail makes a large circle around the local area and takes about 45 minutes to complete. Unfortunately, I didn't get to walk the whole trail, but I hope you do if you stay here--what a great way to see the local area!

My only complaints were that there was no toilet paper provided (there was one starter roll) and this was not disclosed initially--in fact, I did not find this out until we had already been to the shops...and we didn't have a car, which made this a little difficult. Michele did help out with additional paper until we could get back to the shops:) Also, there is no tumble dryer as advertised, but things do dry quickly on the drying rack. The last problem we had was because my mom/travel partner is a TV junkie and the TV interferes with the internet when on. This was not a known problem to Michele and I myself didn't figure out what the problem was until our last day. Michele knows about this now, so it shouldn't be a problem for anyone else, but it did unfortunately interfere with my ability to get a little work done while I was there and to communicate with my family overseas. Of course, if you don't have to have the TV on all waking hours, this shouldn't pose a problem...

Overall, this was a great place to stay, and I would stay here again. Clean, comfy, and quiet, as well as charming!

A wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot recommend this property enough! Beautifully decorated, comfortable, luxurious and immaculately clean. The well equipped kitchen was particularly helpful. The owners were extremely friendly and our toddler loved being introduced to the horses on the farm. Very well located in a quiet countryside setting a short distance from Harrogate. If we are visiting the area again we will definitely be staying at Squeak Cottage.

Simply The Best

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed in Squeak Cottage for a week at the end of August 2014. From the moment we walked into the cottage, we felt relaxed, comfortable and at home. The cottage is exceptional - it is beautifully furnished, very well equipped and spotlessly clean. It was just what we needed after an extremely stressful year! Location wise, it was ideal for us - so near to Harrogate and RHS Harlow Carr and yet away from the hustle and bustle. We were able to relax and thoroughly enjoy the peace and quiet. We will definitely stay here again as soon as we can and we would recommend it to anyone wishing to have the best of both worlds, i.e. super cottage in great location.

Squeak Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Immaculate cottage with all mod cons. Very cosy with wood burner and underfloor heating which was very welcome on the cooler stormy nights we experienced. Very friendly owners who made us welcome.

Just a couple of minor points - swing doors to en-suite were quite heavy and noisy and a freezer compartment in the fridge would have been beneficial. A few dishcloths and hand towel in the kitchen would be welcome.

Would definitely return and recommend to others as a great base for Harrogate and district.
