About Rachel Marffy
I have holidayed in Cornwall all my life originally at Trebetherick and Polzeath and now this side of the camel estuary. we have 4 children and now they all still enjoy coming to this area, so does granny! We have always wanted to have a home in Cornwall and now are lucky enough to own Penwhine. Our home is in Oxfordshire where my husband runs a stud farm and I am a physiotherapist.
Rachel Marffy purchased this House in 2008
Why Rachel Marffy chose Saint Merryn
We love north Cornwall, it has something to offer all ages from tiny tots to grandparents. There is always new to do and discover, I even went coasteering last year , jumping off high cliffs into the Atlantic swell was something else! The beaches are quieter here than the more well known resorts of Polzeath and Newquay. The journey from the M5 has improved considerably over the past few years.we can get here from Oxfordshire in 3 3/4 hours if the traffic is good. The surfing and walking are fantastic and so is the eating!
What makes this House unique
The house is spacious and has a friendly feel, the dining room is well away from the bedrooms so there is little danger of waking sleeping children if you are having a noisy dinner. Unlike many holiday properties the house has everything (i think ) you need for proper cooking, nothing worse that wanting to make cookies and having no scales or mixing bowl.I even have some recipe books there. We now have a small TV there, mainly for rental guests, it is surprising how your children will manage to play games etc if there is no telly. Why not detox away from wifi and mobile phones?

Comfortable and Copnvenient
Once we got used to having no WiFi or even phone signal we managed to relax and enjoy the house and the location.
The house is well equipped, great for large groups (with dogs) and well located. Some aspects are a little dated but that does not detract from the overall comfort and convenience.
The location is great for exploring Cornwall. The dogs and kids loved the local bays. It is also handy for going further afield (Newquay, St Ives, St Austell etc).
Spacious well designed family home
We had a fabulous week in St Merryn, with some tremendous walks to dog friendly beaches. The whole family enjoyed staying at your house with all it had to offer. We most definitely would love to return. Thank you x
Perfect getaway property
We had a wonderful time at Penwhine. This being our first trip to the area we didn't know what to expect but we found the village great, beach outstanding and the property perfect for our needs. There were 2 families of 4, 4 adults and 4 children and we had the perfect amount of room. Spacious bedrooms, a lovely big kitchen and even a wishing well to keep the children enthralled. An extra special touch was a bottle of champagne and card from the owners wishing us a Happy New Year.
I would recommend this property to families looking to escape to the coast and would love to return in the Summer.
Lovely week in a brilliant location
We stayed at Penwhine for Christmas week and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The property is very well equipped with everything you might possibly need, and is spacious and clean. The biggest plus with this house is the location. We'd never really explored this part of the coast and was amazed at the huge number of beautiful beaches and coves just a stones throw away. There are two nice pubs within walking distance and good amenities in the village. I'd definitely recommend this holiday home for a relaxing Cornish get away.
We have just spent a wonderful week in this fabulously placed bungalow. It is truly a tardis and we had plenty of space for adults and lounging teens. The lack of wifi was wonderful and the Monopoly became a regular trip hazard/ that or the dog crashed out after two walks on local beaches. We loved this house and holiday - we have walked, played board games., body- boarded to our hearts' content. The only complaint is that we had to come home again...
I would have stayed longer and will definitely return.
Pasties - still working on removing the added layer from a pasty a day :)
Walk from Constantine to Mother Iveys bay then back across via golf course to Constantine.
Body boarding at Treyarnon... think this is spelling - bizarrely we had been here years ago - great fun!
Could go on for hours - we will return :)
Thank you, glad you like the lack of WIfi, it seems to create better family time!
Excellant property in excellant location
A lovely bungalow within the heart of St Merryn. Home from home type accommodation. Plenty of space and ample on site parking. Everything you need. Best selection of games for kids ( and Adults) I've ever seen.
Thanks, we are almost a technical detox zone, lots to do that does not involve a screen!
7 fantastic beaches are all within a 10 minute drive. Constantine is a wonderful big beach with great surf. Porthcothan is our favourite beach, great surf at low tide. Harlyn can also have great surf and is generally a safer beach for small children. Boobys bay is a wonderful and often quiet beach lovely rock pools but only accessible at low tide. Treyarnon, Trevone and Mother Iveys bay are all great beaches with rock pools and nice sand. Boobys, Harlyn, Constantine, Porthcothan dog friendly.
