Burry Port Holiday Cottage, Carmarthenshire, Wales, UK
About Richard Nash
My childhood was full of freedom, sunshine, fresh air, of being near the sea, beaches and big open skies. Having lived in London and Bristol for many years, I would yearn to be back and would be happy to spend time trekking in and out to get those few precious days on or near the coast and return home relaxed and replenished. It has been a long term ambition to be within a stones throw of the beach and the sea and one day I just woke up and thought it's time to make this happen - so, as they say, 'Where there's a will there's a way' and it has proved to be one of the best decisions I've ever made!
Richard Nash purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Richard Nash chose Burry Port
Burry Port is easily accessible from the M4 but this part of the coast is relatively unknown and therefore hasn't been overdeveloped or spoilt. There's a strong sense of community spirit in the town which shows through the great friendliness and hospitality extended to all. The golden sandy beaches are fantastic especially at Pembrey Country Park and Cefn Sidan - plenty of level cycling, walking and beach-combing with something different to see on every occasion; the bird life, light, sea, even sand yachting! If you feel like exploring further afield there is a host of different day trip locations; houses, gardens, towns, waterfalls, beach coves.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage was owned and lived in by four generations of the same family and has retained much of its original quaintness, character and charm and it has a very relaxing atmosphere. Its great to wake up in the morning and peak out at the views of the Gower and if the wind is in the right direction hear the sound of the sea. Kids love the garden -originally planted for self sufficiency in veg but now lawned and ideal for running around or clambering the old apple tree. Its a true hotspot - hence the canvas curtain over the front door (as the paint was burning off) and when the weather is balmy a great place to catch the last of the sun with an evening drink or barbecue. Happy Holidays!

Really comfortable cottage in a good location , everything we needed and would definitely love to stay again. Couldn’t fault anything.
Richard was a perfect host , have no hesitation in recommending property.
Lovely Cottage in very peaceful seaside setting
The cottage has been renovated and presented to a very high standard. It is very comfortable, cosy and relaxing. Set down a car free lane, there is very little traffic noise to disturb your peace. It is an ideal base for a few days away from a busy daily routine.
The park, shops, harbour and beach are just a few minutes walk away. Public transport is also a few minutes walk away, but you hear very little noise given the location of the cottage.
It is an old stone built cottage and the staircase might be a bit of a challenge for anyone with limited mobility. All in all, a really lovely place to stay.
Wanted a quiet scenic location for a short get-away break with dog. This was ideal. Beaches and out of town scenery stunning
Very comforable and homely. Richard very helpful.
Definitely worth it....
The cottage was homely, a great location for exploring Carmarthenshire, the Gower and Pembrokeshire. Easy access to beach and local town centre, plus train station means you can leave the car and make the most of your holiday.
Family holiday in Burry Port
We enjoyed our stay in the cottage it was snug and homely, the garden on sunny afternoons was a pleasant spot for a cup of tea or a G&T. Everything was very much as described, parking although not adjacent to the house was always in the local street and seldom more than 50m away. The Gower was approximately 40 minutes drive away, as lovely as people say and well worth the drive, the beach as Oxwich Bay was a great destination. Also worth a mention is Pembury Park just 10 - 15mins drive from the house, great if you have children with lots to do and a lovely beach that stretches for miles.
The sandy beaches either side of Burry Port harbour are a few minutes walk from the cottage. The 7 mile stretch of beach at Cefn Sidan is a 5 minute drive. The spectacular beaches, bays and coastline of the Gower Peninsular are just 30- 40 minutes. Laugharne, where Dylan Thomas lived with his family and the Pembrokeshire coastline beyond are an hour+.

An incidental piece of information is that on June 18, 1928, the seaplane 'Friendship' landed at Burry Port and Amelia Earhart became the first woman ever to fly across the Atlantic ocean. The occasion was of such significance it was celebrated internationally and is marked by a commemorative obelisk in the town and featured at points of interest around the harbour.
