About Serena White

I've been going to this village for the last 40 years. My parents have a house at the other end of the village and in 2010 I had the opportunity to buy the house that I used to go and pick cherries and apricots at when I was a child. I am a publisher of restaurant guides and have always loved food and cooking and there is nowhere like provence for finding the freshest ingredients at anytime of year. I also love cycling and this is a cyclists paradise. Where you want a short half an hour or a more challenging stage of the Tour de France - they are both on your doorstep. Wine lovers will also be in heaven - and those looking for antique or flea markets, you have come to the right place!

Serena White purchased this house in 2010

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fantastic house, garden and pool. House very clean and well maintained with fresh linen and towels. Owners took great care to make sure we got safely settled in with all we needed. So much to do around with great walks, cycling and local markets. Day trips to Avignon, Pont de Gard and Fontaine de Vaucluse were excellent. Local wine, food and friendly locals all fabulous. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

An well appointed house in an excellent location

  • 5 of 5

The house was very welcoming with all the items you would find at home. Great views from the house and a pool to cool down in. The area around had lots to see and the house book was excellent in detailing both the house, local restaurants ( the one in the village we visited twice because of the welcome and quality of the food), walks and comments on the various towns and villages to visit. We stayed as a group of four couples and with all four rooms having en -suites there was no queueing for the bathrooms!! An excellent choice of house.

Beautiful villa in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

This villa in the hills of Provence is even more beautiful than the pictures. It is a peaceful sanctuary filled with everything you need to create an outstanding vacation for a family retreat or a gathering of friends. The villa is quite large and has a wonderfully equipped kitchen overlooking the beautiful mountains as a backdrop. The pool is a delight, especially after a day traveling to explore the area. The bedrooms and multiple baths are spacious and modern and allow a family to share the facilities with plenty of room for privacy.

Serena ensured a perfectly seamless transition to our home in France. She took time to email answers to any questions and responded to questions about the region which helped us plan our trip. Additionally, she left folders with information about markets, sites, and restaurants that assisted us. We used this information as a guide.

The location is perfect for seeing the many sites as well as exploring the markets. The town itself is very small-a delightful restaurant, a church and some homes as well as outstanding views, but its location to other areas of interest allows it to be a perfect place for a Provencal vacation. Additionally, it is only 10 minutes from a small town with grocery stores, restaurants and bakeries.

Serena ensured we had a local couple available in the event we had questions or needed anything done at the villa. They were absolutely delightful and despite our poor French speaking skills, we communicated with them and enjoyed the local experience.

I have used home exchanges in the past. Each has been a wonderful experience, but this home is one I would return to again and again. I would recommend this villa very highly. You will not be disappointed with any aspect of your France vacation by choosing the villa. In fact, the memories you create at La Roque will last a lifetime!! Enjoy your stay!

Having been back a couple of weeks , we have not stopped talking about our stay. The House is as good , if not better than the photos and with a view to die for. Lots of places to visit within easy reach and Serena's information pack was extremely fulsome , certainly worth visiting Les Ramparts restaurant , excellent food and views , especially lovely on the Terrace ( do book it gets busy). If you do want to have a drink and do not want to drive , try the restaurant 200 yds up the road ( not open every day ) , food excellent but wine a bit pricey. The house had all the facilities you could wish for and my wife and I and my family would recommend the house to anyone----Brilliant !

A wonderful house!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for the use of your wonderful house. Everything was supremely comfortable with just the right amount of room for people to spread out and do their own thing or come together and enjoy, a real home from home! The pool was fantastic with a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere and glorious views from everywhere, even Mont Ventoux from the master bedroom! We would also highly recommend Sandrine’s cooking - she made us a really delicious meal for our first night!

We spent half our time in and half visiting the wonderful local towns including Vaison la Romaine, Bedoin, L’Isle sur la Sorgue, Buis-les-Baronnies. It’s such a beautiful area, you would never run out of great places to go and Serena’s guide was very helpful. However, it was always great to come back to the peace of La Roque at the end of the day!

Our group of 7/8 have been holidaying together in France for the last 15 years and generally take a different house every year to discover and experience new places but we have had such a fabulous time this September that we have decided to book La Roque again for next year - we loved it so much!
