About Ed Groombridge
About Ed and Carole: We live in Ascot, Berkshire, with our two young children. Ed is a Regional Manager for a teaching recruitment company and Carole is a freelance Marketing Manager currently studying Interior Design as well (not to mention managing the kids!). We loved travelling before we had the kids and enjoyed some pretty luxurious holidays in India, China, Mexico, Egypt and many European cities, to name but a few. Holidays these days are about relaxing as a family, de-stressing from our incredibly busy lives, eating well and getting some sunshine.
Ed Groombridge purchased this House in 2006
Why Ed Groombridge chose Palombaro
We bought the house in 2006 when we fell in love with Abruzzo the minute we landed! The pace of life is slow in the extreme and every time we visit we feel the stress of our busy UK lives falling away within about 10 minutes of driving down a mostly deserted motorway, tracking the coast line and taking us through the most amazing views of olives, vines and mountains. We love the complete down to earthness of the local people, the amazing locally-grown food, house wine that's cheaper than bottled water and the amazing welcome we get as a whole family. Pretty remote, you need a car and a good map (or sat nav!) to get around, but it really is worth it. The scenery is amazing, the beaches stunning, the villages unchanged for decades. This is a true rural Italian retreat.
What makes this House unique
The views, relaxing in the pool looking at the mountains which are sometimes snow capped. The pace of life and the rugged beautiful countryside. A short drive from endless beaches and mountain walking and biking on the summer and skiing in the winter. A total break from city life

We were in the area for an annual reunion - back to Palombaro to celebrate the Festa in the village of our father's birth. The house is lovely - well stocked and maintained. The view is perfect and the location convenient. We enjoyed the pool and dining on the beautiful terrace.
Well situated family house with stunnung views
A group of us, numbering from 6 to 10, mostly adults, stayed in this house last summer. Our interests are hill walking, plenty of that in the local mountains, architecture, lots of local towns to visit, all within an hour's drive, and sampling local restaurants, and occasional visits to the seaside, an hour or so away.
The house was well suited to our needs and the swimming pool was an added bonus for us. The little hamlet of Limiti provided two festivals in the space of two weeks. Maria's, the bar, grocers and petrol station was the social centre of the neighbourhood and she was a great help to us during our stay.
Een zeer nette, ruime, mooie en volledig uitgeruste woning gelegen op een landelijk domein met als tuin het Majella gebergte.
De eigenaars zijn zeer vriendelijke en correcte mensen.

All distances/times by car: Local grocery shop and bar 5 minutes. Palombaro 10 minutes. Casoli 15 minutes. Guardiagrele 25 minutes. Lanciano 30 minutes. Chieti 40 minutes. Pescara 60 minutes. Vasto 60 minutes. Rome 2.5 hours to central Rome.
Abruzzo is home to Montepulciano wine and many locally grown and produced dishes. This is the green area of Italy where Italians come on holiday and it is unlikely you will find many english-speaking people. Restaurants are usually family-run and you will find many options available from take-away pizza for a Euro a slice, to many-course typical Abruzzese meals for something like 25 Euro per head. We are about 10 minutes from the edge of the Maiella National Park, where many locally arranged excursions take place, from hiking and biking at all levels of ability, to overnight camp outs to spot the wolves, many expert climbing routes and more. This region has had religious associations for centuries and the mountains host many caves, hermitages and refuges to be explored in an area of outstanding natural beauty. At Lake Bomba (30 min drive) you will find watersports - waterskiing, canoeing, windsurfing etc and fishing is available at Castel di Sangro (60 minutes). Many local villages have market days, Guardiagrele has an amazing 14C church with frescoes and good shops, Chieti is good for shopping and has an occasional sunday antiques/bric-a-brac market, Lanciano is great for fashion and has many old churches, museums, city walls to visit along with the famous "Miracolo Eucaristico" to be visited (follow the constant stream of nuns!). Pescara is a large modern town with many many shops and a large promenade with some fashionable beach-side restaurants. Banks and cash points etc can be found 10 minutes from the house. Many restaurants still only take cash. SunBeach resort can be found 40 minutes from the house and is a beach side resort with a separate swimming pool, restaurants etc. AquaWorld in Vasto is a great water park, 60 mins away. Many caves, national park walks, local pasta factories and other typical Italian experiences to enjoy!
