Villa in Migliano, between Todi and Perugia, Umbria - Rural Idyll, Perfect For Families and Friends
- english, french, italian
About Ross Falloon
My brother and I own and run Villa Ariete, a stunning restored Umbrian farmhouse that has been in our family for around 20 years. We have enjoyed many holidays here with family and friends and invite our guests to come and fall in love with the sunshine, the spectacular views and the comforts of Villa Ariete just as we have. The extensive grounds take some looking after and we especially love olive pruning in spring time and then picking the fruits of our labours in October/November!
Ross Falloon purchased this Villa in 1993
Why Ross Falloon chose Marsciano
Villa Ariete has the perfect combination of rustic charm, stunning views and walks from the doorstep, whilst being an easy drive from the Umbrian highlights of Todi, Orvieto, Montefalco, Perugia and Lake Trasimeno. The rural landscape stretches out before you, with forests and fields surrounding the property and our leafy terraces are the perfect place to relax on lazy summer days. The local cuisine is in turns delicate and hearty, with a number of fantastic family run rural restaurants close by. In the autumn, the area comes alive with the grape and olive harvests, and spring sees an abundance of wild asparagus springing up. We love the real sense of connection with the land, in all seasons.

We had a great time in this beautiful house and garden!
Perfect to relax and enjoy the area!
Everything you might need you will find in this house!
Just come back from lovely week - superb villa, beautifully renovated and furnished and the setting is breathtaking. Very well equipped. Plenty large enough for our party of 7 adults and 4 children with loads of room to spare. Lovely grounds, pool set well above house, slightly challenging for knees of a certain age but accessible by car. Lively mozzie population, take your kit and get large citronella candles at supermarket.
Beautiful terrace overhung by vine dripping grapes, very scenic.
Property manager super helpful, heartily recommend all round.
An incredible place to relax
A group of 16 people comprising of 8 adults and 8 children have had almost the perfect week at Villa Ariete.
The villa itself is a vast warren of rooms, gardens and possibilities for children. The swimming pool is very large for a private villa and was the star of the show. It’s a bit of a walk uphill but that wasn’t an issue for us. It could be if you we were older or had difficulties walking as it is steep.
The rooms are all a good size and have fans in them to keep you cool. The temperature in August is mid to high 30s so air conditioning was missed but not that much as the house remains fairly cool.
The villa is very isolated in the rolling Umbrian hills. You have to make your own fun here so don’t expect Florence on your doorstep. That said, Marsciano is only a fifteen minute drive and has a range of restaurants and supermarkets. The old town has a beautiful church and old buildings too. A bit further afield is the beautiful Castiglione de Lago. We did the typically stupid English thing of climbing the several hundred steps up to the fort walls to find a car park. All this in 35 degree sun. The town is beautiful and there are lots of things to do at the lake itself.
The only downside for us was the onslaught of mosquitoes that have gotten fat through feasting on the adults. Nothing stops them. Bug spray, candles, flame throwers. They are like the terminator mosquitoes of the bug world. Had we known they were this bad we would have invested in some industrial level prep to do battle.
Other than the bugs, the holiday has been almost perfect.
We are delighted to hear that you had a wonderful stay at Villa Ariete. However we were sorry to hear about your experience with the mosquitos, thank you for bringing this to our attention.
We do a pre-season 'eco' spray around the villa for our guests' comfort and all bedrooms and living areas have fly screens on the windows. We have not had any issues before, however we will look at doing a further mid-summer spray this year (2020) and will provide some citronella candles, as we want to ensure our guests have wonderful relaxing stays with us!
Lovely Villa + Pool in beautiful countryside.
We had a wonderful time. Villa was perfect for our 2 families of 8 adults and 6 children. The pool was great although a tad difficult to get to if you're disabled. The villa was very well equiped. Janine was very welcoming and helpful.
We had a few lovely meals at the Oasi Villaggio restaurant in nearby Marsciano.
One tiny criticism, mosquito nets on all bedroom windows would be good, as at times it was too hot and we couldn't have all windows open.
Would stay again.
Perfect location for a relaxing break. There were 12 of us and plenty of room for us all. Great pool and stunning views
Thank you for the lovely review, we are very glad you enjoyed your stay at Villa Ariete. It was great to have you all as guests, do come and see us again!
Beautiful, secluded holiday in hot sunshine.
We had a glorious time. Weather was perfect so days spent chatting, eating, cooking, playing tennis, (Migliano boasts a single court that no one else seemed to want to play on in 30 degrees heat - can't think why), boules and lounging by the swimming pool. Slightly eccentric set up of the house (which can be split into two separate houses), worked a treat for our large party of 16, all friends and family together. Too hot to go far on any trips and anyway the week sped by. One tiny criticism - please buy some big cafetieres or similar, as making coffee for 16 was a very slow and laborious which seems ironic for Italy!!
Thank you though. We loved it.
