This is the real Spain! In the heart of the little-known Axarquia in a stunning location with wonderful views of the mountains and the beautiful Vinuela Valley far below, Casa Louisa is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Facing south it has sun from around breakfast time until sunset with the unspoilt natural beauty of the Sierras all around. Although it looks and feels like a traditional Spanish house, it is newly built with all the comforts of the 21st century. There's a large private pool with pool house, a delightful covered terrace with large marble tables for dining, sun-trap balcony and several other terraces with sofas and chairs to sit in comfort. Set amongst the olive groves, peace, tranquility, hot sun by the pool, the shade of an olive old tree, birdsong, the vivid colours of mediterranian flowers, the sound of the goat bells as Pepe shepherds his flock home at the end of the day, incredible skies as the sun leaves the valley ... this and more is what you will find.

This has been our family home in Spain since 2004 and we all love it. We chose southern Spain for the climate and sun and the area for its beauty, peace, Spanish flavour, accessibility to the airport and reasonable flight times from the UK. We all live in the UK and busy lives mean the times we can visit Casa Louisa are limited. We want other people to enjoy what is to us a very special place and letting in summer means we can have a team in Spain to keep the house, the pool and the garden in tip-top order while we are away. Also, we hope to make improvements to the house each year ... often suggestions from guests. We love the peace and tranquility of the Axarquia valley, its dramatic landscapes with the Sierras all around, its charm and its history and we hope you will too.

'... an amazing place' 2011
We stayed at Casa Louisa for 2 weeks in August. There were 7 of us, ages ranging from 72 to 7!!! There was plenty of room for all of us. It was nice that my mum and brother could use the bedrooms downstairs so they could get away and have a bit of peace and quiet!! The villa was very well equipped and had everything we needed, which was great. It was very well maintained and spotlessly clean! The position of the villa is idyllic. Such lovely views and very peaceful! The pool was a huge hit with the kids and adults and it was a great spot to lie around on the sun beds! We enjoyed quite a few evenings sat around the pool bar and on the terrace playing blackjack, hoopla and Jenga, which was great for the kids. The coast is very accessible from the villa and we visited Torre del Mar, Torrox Costa and Nerja. We also visited the lovely Frigiliana which is one of our favourite places! We enjoyed a couple of meals in the village and visited restaurants in the surrounding area.
We had a lovely time at Casa Louisa and it was the best villa we have stayed in! The owner, Jill, was a pleasure to deal with and was very helpful and informative.
It is a treat to arrive at Casa Louisa after about an hour's drive along the coast and up in to the hills of Axarquia. The house is built in the local Spanish style. It is very spacious, comfortable, immaculately clean and extremely well equipped. There are extensive outdoor spaces with sofas and chairs to relax in, sip a glass of wine and take in the extensive southerly views and watch the magnificent sunsets. Plenty of dining areas, with superb marble tables, afford room for everyone. The pool, which is cleaned twice a week, is larger than is usual for a private house and has a large covered, equipped area.
The owner, Jill, has thought of everything to make this villa a sheer delight to spend time in. We were there for 2 weeks and only ventured out to shop, visit Camares, Alhama de Granada, Berjemales lake, some local restaurants and walk up behind the villa to the edge of the Parcque National nearby. There are plenty of maps, guide books, recommendations and suggestions provided for visits around Andalucia.
Any problems that arose were dealt with quickly and efficiently by Elisa and Abdu who look after the villa for Jill. They were very friendly and helpful we found.
This is the best villa we have ever experienced or rented. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
Wonderful house, perfect for families and will be booking again immediately for next year! We all loved it!
For the second time we have spent the most fantastic fortnight at Casa Louisa. We thought it was perfect when we last visited but new finishing touches - such as beautiful tiles, additional shade and pong-pong table which have been added around the property make it even more special. We never tire of the view of the valley during the day, the amazing sunsets and shooting star displays at night. This time we drove to Seville - a car journey well worth making to see this wonderful city. The 'Fiesta of Flamenco' in Alcaucin and the 'Feria de Malaga' are traditional celebrations not to be missed! One of our highlights was taking a walk UP the Rio Chillar at Nerja - wear trainers, take water, a picnic, a walking stick and your camera - a great day out EVEN in the hight of summer. Once again, we can't wait to return!
Casa Louisa is a piece of heaven on earth! The house easily accommodated us 10 (5 adults and 5 children). Everything is perfect for a self-catering family. The views are amazing..day and night; the beds comfortable; air-con a treat; bathrooms spotlessly clean; numerous beautiful dining locations around the Casa; a multitude of perfect spots to relax and read; pool and bar area an absolute delight (day and night); nearby village very pretty and at 'fiesta' time a super place to party; coast only a short drive away; local area steeped in ancient tradition; visit to Alhambra in Grenada a must; numerous local restaurants provide fantastic opportunities to sample local delicacies (try aubergines/courgettes in tempura batter with cane honey) or manchego cheese 'con patatas'; rural but not isolated (car essential though)....we can't wait to return...
The nearest beaches are at Torre del Mar, Caleta or El Morches (about 20-25 minutes drive) ... large very Spanish busy seaside resorts; huge, long, safe, sandy beaches with a long promenades and plenty of beach bars. Burriana beach (in Nerja and with all the up-market trappings ... sunbeds, icecream parlours and so forth) is about 40 minutes and worth a trip for a visit to this pretty lilttle pueblo town and paella on the beach alone! Sand on this coast is clean and stone-coloured.
Car essential. Malaga airport is about and hour's easy drive from Alcaucin (64 kilometres) first along the coastal motorway and then inland for 20 minutes on a good road. You meet House Managers at and easy-to-find local restaurant and they will lead you up to Casa Louisa when you arrive. The last 2 kilometres is on an unmade and concrete road, which gives access to many houses in the area so although the house is quite private its not isolated.
Our local, very Spanish village of Alcaucin is 20-25 minutes walk, mostly flat or about 5 minutes drive; Puente don Manuel in the valley below with all the shops for your every day needs is 6 kilometres away. The coast where you will find all the large supermarkets, shops, water park, local markets and beaches is 20 to 25 minutes drive depending on the traffic. Allow around 3/4 hour to the pretty pueblo town of Nerja; about one and a half hours to Granada if you want to visit the Alhambra.
Although its hard to drag yourself away from the tranquility and comfort of Casa Louisa if you want some action there is plenty to be had. You can just pop into Alcaucin or down Puente don Manuel for all your everyday shopping needs and choose from several local restaurants offering freshly cooked food at reasonable prices if thats as far as you want to go. The national park with its cool pine forests and stunning vistas just above the house and the mountains on the doorstep and all around call out to be explored and walking or mountain-biking there is a real joy. But if you want to go further afield ,the full-on experience of the coast is only a short drive away. Traditional markets, local shops with traditional Spanish wares superb fish restaurants, large supermakets and shops for the shopaholics and the family-fun water park (open in summer) are all within easy reach. Towns such as Antequera, the impressive national park of El Torcal with the amazing limestone 'moonscape', the famous small pueblo villages of Andalucia, the pretty bustling town of Nerja, the ancient caves in Moro with all the stalegmites and stalagmites and stalactites you would expect, the unmissable Alhambra in Granada, the facinating little city of Cordoba, hot springs in the ancient town of Alhama de Granada, the salt lakes of Fuente de la Piedra with thousands of breeding flamingos in Spring make for excellent days out. In the villa you will find guide books and pull-out directions for you to take with you if you feel like setting out somewhere. Short as well as longer self-guided walk sheets will take you up into the park and mountains without fear of getting lost ... although we have local guides who would be delighted to take you walking or a day out mountain-biking so that you get the best of a day in this stunning area. River-walking is a great thing to do in the summer! The area is fantastic for cycling on the quiet mountain roads amid the wonderful scenery and we can arrange bike hire for you locally.
