Smugglers Cottage has been converted and renovated from 2 fisherman's cottages into a beautiful home. Every room has views over the bay. The cottage doors open onto a large sun trap terrace with stunning views over long ships and Sennen cove. In the lower garden there is a bench for a quite read, and in the garden above there is a chalet. If you are lucky you will see dolphins, basking sharks and you might even swim with a seal. Sennen is a great place for children, with a huge sandy beach and lifeguards in the summer months. For older children there are surf schools, and the cottage has Wi-Fi. There are beautiful walks along the coastal path. The cottage is open plan, with a Rayburn to cook on. The cottage oozes peace, and the wood burning stove keeps it cosy in winter. It is 3 minutes walk to the beach, the shop is at the bottom of the hill. There are steps to the cottage (so not suitable for very small children or people with mobility problems).
Hi I have been holidaying in Sennen Cove for nearly 30 years, from being a bit of a surf groupie, to having a family. Smugglers has been my favourite place to stay so I jumped at the chance of buying it! I live in Yorkshire but get down to Sennen every month, and hope to live there eventually. You will find a few recent photos of us in the house. We hope you have a relaxing and lovely stay in our house.
Rebecca Malby purchased this cottage in 2011
Well I spent my youth here - hanging out at the lifeguard hut at Gwenver, and have been holidaying there ever since. Sennen has great memories and there is nothing like the sea and a horizon to relax. I love Smugglers because it is really light, which is a treat in Sennen, and its spacious. The views from the terrace are fantastic and the front is a sun -trap.
Smugglers comfortably sleeps 6 with great open plan living space. I keep it warm all year round, and there are sea views from every room. Its decorated to a high standard with everything you will need and the Wifi is a benefit for me when I'm working there. June at Pengelley House provides the car parking and does the washing. We provide a good supply of sundries (washing up liquid, shampoo, bin liners, dishwasher tabs, loo roll) so you don't have to worry about that when you arrive. A couple of the main supermarkets will deliver to the house so you can order in advance
Beatiful cottage, probably the best self catering we have ever stayed in. Sunny all week, fantastic views, and great food at Beach restaurant. Magic stay!
This cottage is much more than we ever expected. cottage - its huge! a lovely large living, kitchen dining area that is so nicely laid out it doesn't seem empty or vast but cosy and well thought out! The shower room downstairs is also excellent and could not do without the amazing power shower that anyone would need after a costal walk to lands end or after a day on the beach- also handy for wetsuits etc! Proper big bath for soaking in upstairs both with lovely slate floors and also upstairs 3 large bedrooms 2 with twin beds and so comfy I slept so well in the middle bedroom and had such a lovely view from my pillow with a cup of tea. Just bliss. Clean and tidy and still with bunches of character with exposed beams and sash windows.
The outside is excellent too, a large patio and bbq area with a great big table for everyone to sit round and enjoy the sunset and view of Cape Cornwall round to Gwynver and then Sennen Beach! We were blessed with fantastic weather so spent most of our time on the patio enjoy the views and using the bbq! Everything we needed to know was set out in the welcome package and there were also some good looking cook books that I definitely wanted to explore too. This place is so peaceful and charming, I would not hesitate to stay here again. Fantastic place to stay in a fantastic location. Thumbs up!
We first stayed at Smugglers Rest in 1969. It looked nothing like it does today, but the cottage, the view, the beach and the whole of West Penwith, hooked us instantly, with the result that we returned to Smugglers for several years, only moving elsewhere in the Cove when our family was too big for the cottage. Once the children had left home we have returned to Sennen Cove/Vellandreath for holiday after holiday, during one of which we noticed that something had happened to Smugglers...it had swallowed up Pebbles, a one up one down cottage next door and was transformed. By pure luck the new owner was staying there at the time, with the result that we have now enjoyed two further visits, with hopefully many more to come. The essence of the original cottage remains, enhanced by all the trappings that we now require, TV, wi-fi, central heating, good cooker, excellent beds etc.etc. There is no better spot than Sennen Cove and Whitesands Bay for kids of all ages and no better place to stay than Smugglers' Rest. This time we particularly enjoyed the even better sea view from the upgraded summer house high up behind the cottage.
I hesitated to submit this review, fearing it will make booking Smugglers difficult, but on balance you need to know about it!!
A delightful cottage with a warm comfortable feel set in a breathtaking area. Everything and more to make it your perfect holiday home for the stay.
Its 3 minutes to the beach. You can surf at Sennen or if you are experienced, at the next beach Gwynver. Learn to surf at SmartSurf School where you will get excellent tuition. You can hire boards in Sennen, and there is a great surf shop. The Beach Cafe on the beach has indoor and outdoor dining and in the summer. Rosie's cafe (Little Bo) is open nearly all year for breakfast, lunch and cakes and in the holiday season for evening meals.
The nearest airport is Newquay, which is 1 hour 15 minutes away. You can get to Penzance on the train or as an estimate the drive is about 4 hours from Bristol.
Smuggers rest is in the heart of Sennen Cove with amazing views over longships and the coast. Land End is 1 mile walk on the cliff path from the Cottage. Its about 20 minutes drive to Penzance, and a bit longer to St Ives where you can go visit the Tate. The Eden Project is 1 hour 30 minutes away. You can also go karting (30 minutes). Penzance has a cinema, lovely small shops as well as the usual high street ones, and good art shops. if you like art then visit the Newlyn Art Gallery.
Sennen Cove is a small village but has some lovely amenities - the tea shop in Sennen does great breakfasts and cakes, and homecooked evening meals at weekends! There is a pub with food and live local music. In the summer the Beach Cafe has a restaurant as well as a kiosk. Tescos and Sainsburys will deliver to the door.
