Overview

About the property

Villa in Acqui Terme, Piedmont, Italy - Hill Position, 15 Min Walk From Town, 10 Min Walk from Spa Centre and In the Heart Of Wine Region

Villa Maddalena is an ideal holiday family house. It is set on a hill on the edge of the thermal town of Acqui Terme, in the heart of Piemontese area renowned for its wines and food. It is surrounded by a beautiful garden, a very comfortable swimming pool area, and many well-equipped outside dining and sitting areas. The house is within short driving distance from 4 main airports: Genoa, Milano Linate, Milano Malpensa and Turin. From the house one can reach the town on foot (15 to 20 minutes walk), or on a bicycle, and just at the bottom of the hill (5 minutes walk), there is a grocery shop, butcher, pharmacy, newsagent and ice cream shop, while the town itself offers excellent restaurants, music events, thermal water treatments, a huge outdoor swimming pool with gym lessons, local markets. To our guests we offer a 10% to 20% discounts for the beauty/SPA treatments at the SPA Centre down the hill from our house, and the possibility to have a Chef Service for lunches or dinners.

The house is on 2 floors: on the ground floor you find a large eat-in kitchen that opens up in front of the dining tables on one end and towards the living room on the other end. The living room has a large 18th century sofa, and another 2 smaller sofas, 4/ 5 chairs scattered around and a round table with another chair that we use like a desk. The inside dining room is hardly ever used in the summer, it has a dining table that can be enlarged with some extra boards, there is library with some books and VCRs. Further on there are 2 bedrooms: one is a double one and the other one is a 3 beds children bedroom, both open up towards the garden. Lots of toys are in the children bedroom. There are 2 bathrooms: one is ensuite to the double bedrrom but it can be shared with the children, is one wants, and the other one is between adjacent to the children bedroom. Indoor stairs and also outdoor stairs bring up to the second floor, where one finds first of all the single bedroom, and few steps further on after a corridor one finds a second living room opening up to a balcony overlooking the garden and the pool. On this second floor there are 2 areas: each has a double bedroom and a 2 twin beds bedroom, sometimes the tween beds are put together to make it a double bed. Also there are the 2 bathrooms for each of the 2 bedrooms.

Fabulous Villa, Great Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in July, with a large group. The house was very spacious, very clean and everything was perfect. The beds were comfortable, and there was a lot of space outside, to play and enjoy the well-kept gardens, with lots of flowers and tall, shady trees. The pool is huge! Beautiful water, and great for the kids. We ate outside al fresco every evening, with great pleasure. Barbara, the owner, was very friendly and helpful, taking time to help us with the smallest of things. Also some great tips for non- touristy, special trips and things to do in the area. Maie managed the house, and we asked her everything! We will definitely go back to this house again - the highlight was the chef Guido, who cooked for us twice. The children loved him, and his cooking was the best Italian food we ever had!

Perfect Family trip

  • 5 of 5

In 2016, we spent our yearly 1 week family trip (4 families) in Villa Maddalena and there was no doubt, that we have to come back in 2017 for the second time.

The villa itself with a big living room and the well equipped kitchen as well as the garden with the beautiful pool make this place to a perfect one to be. Kids can play safely in the closed area around the house, the fireplace / oven at the outside was our preferred place to spent the evenings together. Acquiterme with its nice pedestrian zone, restaurants and supermarkets is reachable at walking distance. Maie is taking care of the guests and their needs on site, being available for any question or help needed. Many thanks to her and our host, Barbara, for giving us the opportunity and pleasure to spent some days at Villa Maddalena. See you soon and all the best, Rouven

family gathering

  • 4 of 5

The villa and garden were lovely and the pool was clean and safe for children.

Maie greeted us with lots of information about the house and area.

We used the chef service one evening and guido cooked for 12 adults which was excellent and good value. Also the pizzeria at the top of the hill was wonderful with very friendly staff especially giovanni the owner.

A larger fridge would be useful and a bigger kettle. Also new cushions for garden chairs and more towels. A mop is needed for the kitchen floor.

An added bonus would be a welcome hamper with milk etc.

Fantastic pool but a few areas for improvement

  • 3 of 5

Such mixed feelings about this place!

The positives- a fantastic pool, great for small children and adults due to its size, the diving board and steps. The outside area was generally very good, plenty of parking and areas for seating and for the children to explore. The general location is very good.

Lots of space inside, but some of the furnishing inside was quite tired, and quite randomly resourced - e.g. not enough wine glasses, teaspoons, no mop, some dodgy electrics!

The housekeeper was very helpful and Guido the chef and his helper were both great, we really enjoyed their service.

Our checkout time was 10am. By 8am people were already on site deep cleaning the pool so the children were unable to go for a final swim as planned. I received a message the night before departure letting me know maids would be collecting laundry at 9am on the day of checkout. I said we would be ready to leave at 10 but if we had to, we understood that laundry would be taken at 9. By 9am lots of people arrived, stripping beds and generally cleaning - we felt like we were in the way. I don't think this is acceptable when check out is 10am. 10 am should mean the house is yours until this time.

There is also the issue of the 250 euro cleaning fee. This does not appear in the invoices, and is hidden in the small print of the overall house description. Surely cleaning a house is part and parcel of renting a property? It would be much better to be honest about this cost in the overall invoice. Mine was held back as part of my breakages deposit.

Owner's Response: Dear Arabella, First of all thank you for having chosen us and also thank you for taking the time for the review. I appreciate coming to know about the unusual check-out procedure that you've had, and of course I am sorry about this. I make sure that this will not happen any more. Normally, on the check-out date the only one who is allowed to start really early is the gardener (cut grass etc), this is unavoidable though, due to the high summer temperature. From 9:00 am to 10:00 the maids start to work outside: there is so much to do outside...entrance gate, bbq, gazebo, sidewalks, stairs to cellar,.. and only at 10:00 they are allowed in. Very sorry if they anticipated this action. I have already made it clear to them. As far as the € 250 leave out fee is concerned, I have asked Owners Direct to help us making this more evident on the website right from the beginning: i hope this is done now; I am not sure that it would appear on the actual Online Payment Invoice as this Invoice is not issued by the owner. As you were saying the important thing is that it is clearer and understandable from the beginning. I am glad however that you have enjoyed the house, the pool, the garden, the chef service and Maie's help who promptly sent back your forgotten clothes. I wish you all the best. barbara

Perfect for our family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We all loved this rambling flowery house on the edge of the non touristy acqui terme which still looked like a world heritage site to us! The mixed party of 13 (17-89 years old) were all comfortably accommodated with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. The house feels like a artistically decorated home rather than a holiday let. Lovely to sit outside on the long table in the evenings. The group of cousins could roam into town without the need for the car - they loved pizza rustica - the restaurant 20 mins walk up the hill behind the house. They occasionally found the weather a bit cooler than they needed for pool basking but the older ones found it just right for sightseeing. Barbara very helpful with advice re elderly father beforehand and close-by hospital turned out to be useful for another member of party. We hope to return soon.

The Most Beautiful Villa In Italy

  • 5 of 5

First and foremost we would like to express how amazing the people at this villa are, the staff was friendly and helpful. My wife and I actually got married in town and many of our wedding photos will be immortalized by background of the villa. We had our wedding dinner in the backyard and we will forever be grateful for such a beautiful setting! It really was picture perfect! The pool was a great place to hang out and we enjoyed it on more then one occasion. Everything in the villa worked amazing, the water was always hot and that is not always the case in places we have stayed. The town of Acqui Terme is a quaint little town with things to do for ALL ages. Beautiful hiking trails that we enjoyed and the beautiful sights we got to see were unforgettable! The food in town was amazing! Our personal favorite that is a MUST go to is Citui Bai! You won't regret it! All in all this Villa far exceeded our expectations and we would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone traveling to Acqui Terme! Enjoy this beautiful Villa and your time in Acqui Terme! Buon Vacanze!
