House in Swanage, Dorset, England, UK - Peaceful Location, 3 Minutes Walk To Town And Large Sandy Beach

Our house is situated on a quiet road in the seaside town of Swanage. It is a spacious Victorian property, a 'home from home' with garden and parking at the back. I would describe our house as a 'little worn around the edges' giving it a homely, eclectic and informal feel. It is not a place for people who like everything shipshaped and therefore has been very popular with people with children! Some families have been coming for years. We also have two resident cats who stay through out .We have tried to move them but really, there's no telling them, they make their way back each time. They have a 'nest' in the shed with cat flap and just need someone to pour the dried cat food into their bowl but I can arrange for someone else to do this. Warning to those with allergies,they may sneak into the house unless you have dogs, in which case they are not so keen.We have plenty of toys, lego,books DVDs, a piano and table tennis . We are a 3 minute walk down the hill, to the stone quay where you can enjoy the wonderful outdoor fish cafe, go crabbing, and watch Punch and Judy on the beach. Scuba diving and watersport hire is also available. Five minutes drive to an adventure farm with large indoor play area. Coastal walks begin on the Downs, 100 metres away. Informal, comfortable home for relaxed families.

Please note we are up a hill (about 3 mins from bottom of town) and there are steps in the garden.

About The Owner

Hello, we are a family with three teenagers, one child, two dogs and two cats and just generally all bumble along enjoying life in Swanage. I would like to say that we all enjoy going for long walks along the coast but that would misrepresent the teenagers. The younger member enjoys the skate park, jumping off the quay and mountain biking, the others like to meet up in the cafes or at the beach and to go to the pubs and nightclub on a Saturday in Swanage (over 18's).

Why The Owner chose Swanage

We are originally from London but decided to move to Swanage so that the children could grow up with fresh air, open spaces and the sea at the bottom of their road.

The house is in a perfect location, in town 5 minutes walk to all shops, restaurants, cafes and the wonderful sandy beach and 2 minutes walk to the start of the coastal walks.

In the summer you can also take the boat to Bournemouth at the bottom of our road; we are 10 minutes by car from the National Trust beaches of Studland and the ruins of Corfe Castle.

What makes this house unique

This property is unique in that it offers families a 'Home from Home.' It is cosy, comfortable and informal. We make sure the house is cleared out but we do keep out a large selection of toys, board games, DVD's and buckets and spades so that children are kept entertained at all times and adults may get to sit down for three minutes. There is also table tennis and a piano.

We want you to enjoy the house as much as we do. You are welcome to bring your animals.

Many of our guests return each year.

Outside: The front of the property has a lawned area with table and chairs and a fold up table tennis. The back of the property has a lawn area,plus parking for 1 car (2, tail to tail). There is also a patio area with table and chairs Utility Room: Utility area under stairs. Includes washing machine and dryer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen included, please bring own towels. Property cleaned and linen changed on change over day. Other: conservatory with sofa, toys and piano.

Great place to stay for a large family

Property is accurately described on the web site being very much a family home with a real mixture of furnishings etc. Very comfortable easily sleeping 12 with four double bedrooms on the first floor and a large attic area where our four grandchildren decided to sleep. At the top of a steepish hill so maybe not suiting everyone. Well equipped and thoroughly recommended.

Great house for a family holiday

We had a great time in Swanage, which just happened to coincide with their annual pirate festival. Our grandson was over the moon. Thè house was brilliant and big enough to accommodate us all with room to spare but also intimate in areas like the conservatory. A great selection of books, dvd's and games meant everyone was catered for. Would definitely stay again.

charmante wonig in een gezellig badstadje

Een heel aangenaam huis, waar je direct het gevoel hebt 'thuis te komen'. Het huis is heel uitnodigend en ideaal voor een gezin met kinderen. De eigenares is heel vriendelijk en correct, een warm persoon. De ligging van het huis is ideaal voor het verkennen van een stukje zuid-Engeland, meer bepaald de jurassic coast. De keuken is meer dan gemiddeld voorzien van kookmateriaal. Het huis was misschien niet 100% proper, maar doordat het verder zo gezellig is, stoor je je daar niet echt aan. Een aanrader, ik zou direct nog eens terug gaan.

Swanage is a seaside resort. The house is located in an elevated position 3 minutes walk to the town centre and pier. Another 2 minutes along the seafront to the large sandy beach. The far end of the beach is dotted with cafes and beach huts available for hire (depending on availability-please ask owner for details). A 10 minute drive in opposite directions takes you either to Studland's dunes and family pub-Bankes Arms or Worth Matravers with rocky beach and family pub- The Square and Compass.


Bournemouth airport: 1 hour away. Southhampton airport:1 and a half hours. Gatwick/Heathrow/Bristol Airports: approx. 3 hours away

Poole ferry from France: 45 minutes away. Train station at Wareham; buses and taxi connections to Swanage (20 minutes). Wareham to London Waterloo station:2 and a half hours. Car recommended but not essential.


Swanage to Poole and Bournemouth: approx 45 minutes- bus connections (some open air) available from Swanage Station. Swanage steam train to Corfe Castle: 20 minutes. Isle of Wight ferry day trips. Famous Square and Compass pub at Worth Matravers: 10 minutes by car, 2 hour coastal walk.

Lulworth Cove and Kimmeridge bay hunting for fossils- great days out- approx. 45 mins to 1 hour away. Studland Beach and Banks Arms pub seving great lunches: 10 minutes by car,1 and a half hour coastal walk.

Further Details:

Swanage has 2 supermarkets, banks, post office, doctors surgery, dentists and hospital for minor injuries. The main high street has a number of little trinket shops, cafes and restaurants. The Grand hotel above the far end of the beach has a small pool, sauna and fitness area as well as providing afternoon tea. 5 minutes drive to Putlake Adventure farm in Langton Matravers. Walk along the Pier and visit the old fashioned amusement arcade. Punch and Judy shows in the summer.
