About Eva Smith
My parents designed and built this house in 1971. It is a much loved place in one of the most beautiful parts of Sweden: Stockholm Archipelago - unique with its 30.000 islands and skerries, yet only an hour away from Stockholm and airport. I and my family return there from our permanent residence in England several times a year and greatly benefit from the peace and tranquility found there: in contrast from densely populated and busy lives in the UK.
Eva Smith purchased this House in 1970

A beautiful house in a tranquil setting
It was one of the best holidays we ever had in this house on the beautiful Swedish island.
We stayed at the property as two families with young four children (ages five to eleven). The house was spacious enough to fit 8 people (two of us stayed in the smaller house) and had everything we needed. It is cozy inside and has plenty of space outside surrounded by beautiful trees and a with lot of things for children to explore. There is also a sauna, which we used on several occasions. You can jump straight into the water from a jetty, take a row boat for a ride, fish with a rod. If you walk for three minutes you are at a small beach where smaller children can enter the water safely. There are berries and mushrooms to pick everywhere around.
The archipelago area is incredibly beautiful and the overall atmosphere is calm and laid back. All the neighbours are quiet and friendly and we were never bothered by loud music or late night parties.
The roads are scenic and generally quite empty and you can get to Stockholm in just over an hour, so a day trip to Junibacken, Skansen or Gamla Stan is easy and we have done it on several occasions. There is a lot for children and adults to enjoy both in Stockholm and on the islands.
The communication with the hosts and the caretaker was very friendly and helpful, and always timely.
We will happily recommend this property and are seriously considering coming back next year.
Beautiful tranquil location and lovely house
What an idyllic, beautiful setting. The house was spacious, well equipped and maintained. Eva and family had thought of everything that we could possibly need to ensure a relaxing stay, with clear instructions when appropriate. Days were spent rowing to the island and beyond, walking in the beautiful woods, taking photographs and swimming in the sea followed by warming saunas. The weather was slightly cooler than expected for August but even one day of rain didn't dampen our enthusiasm for our stay here. The property easily accommodated 6 of us. Having spent a week in Copenhagen and Stockholm we didn't feel the need to venture far afield. The excellent, well-stocked supermarket close by in Norrtalje provided all the food we could possibly wish for and we cooked all our meals in the well-stocked kitchen. The property was perfect for adults, 21 year olds and children. We all agreed we would love to return. Thank you Eva and finely for sharing your home with us.
Lovely to have you there - welcome back!
Beautiful and peaceful stay
We stayed here in August with our three daughters, niece and a young friend. The photos do not do the setting justice - it really is truly a beautiful setting for a clearly loved and cared for family home. We had really good instructions, and very useful advice on journey times and where to shop from the Eva. The caretaker, Tomas, was very responsive, and helpful when we locked ourselves out, and left a sweater behind - really top quality no fuss service. We hired a motorboat for the week, and also enjoyed the bikes, rowing boats, swimming over the island each morning, sauna, sunsets, berries, beauty and calm and more! Also Stockholm is very manageable in a day, which we did twice to keep the young people happy! If it had been up to me, I would have stayed on the island and explored the footpaths, done more swimming, more boating. Highly recommended, great for families who love being outdoors, playing and being together.
Delighted to have you stay! Welcome back.
A beautiful spacious well equipped idyllic propert
The house was spacious, clean, well-maintained and well equipped. The setting was beautiful, overlooking the Baltic and with a separate Sauna house was ideal for anyone with busy lives.
The owner provided excellent service we were in contact via telephone prior to the rental and all the information sent through was comprehensive and accurate we were also met by the local caretaker at the appointed time to exchange keys both at the beginning and end of the holiday.
Our 3 sons particularly enjoyed the table tennis room and using the private jetty to jump in and out of the Baltic and exploring the small islands with the rowing boat provided. We would also recommend the wild raspberries which are easily found if you take a walk in the woods on the island. If you like good food the Furusunds Värdshus was excellent and Norrtälje is only 30 minutes away by car if you need to stock up with food and drink. Stockholm is also close only just over an hour’s drive if you want to do some sightseeing.
As with everywhere in the Islands in the summer take plenty of mosquito repellent but if you want to get away this is a lovely idyllic escape.
Thank you for your nice review! You're very welcome back in the future.
Re. mosquitos ("myggor"!) - we provide wood framed mosquito nets for windows in all the rooms so there are none in the houses. The island has far less mosquitos than areas with predominantly deciduous trees and fresh water lakes etc. Repellents certainly help outdoors - available everywhere.
Beautifully furnished house great views
This a beautifully furnished architect designed house, warm and with every home comfort including (naturally for Sweden) a sauna. Fabulous views across the Baltic and the most amazing sunset we have ever seen. Half hour drive to Nortellje where you can get a bus to take you to Stockholm for the day. Highly recommended for a short or long break.
Idyllic midsummer stay
We couldn't believe our luck when the skies were pperfect blue for every single day of our trip - with the huge expanse of lawn outside the house we were able to play around with our children and friends throughout the week. Endless drinks and fishing from the jetty, forest walks, bike rides beyond perfection on smooth undulating roads, delicious dinners overlooking the sun speckled Baltic sea, games of ping pong and badmington before heating up in the delicious wood fired sauns [again - overlooking the sea of course!] & refreshing plunges afterwards. The house is incredibly comfortable - we were a large group of nine - and never seemed to get in each other's way. Lovely beds, fully equipped kitchen - the list goes on! We just can't wait to go back. Thanks for the stay :)
Special interest holidays:
This property is very suitable for small groups looking for a desirable venue for activities such as writing/yoga/fishing/photography/painting/nature holidays. The light in spring/early summer with twilight through the night is stunning and the place especially peaceful and tranquil. Fishing in spring and autumn very successful. Ample lawn and floor spaces for e.g. yoga.
Own sea/jetty access there are 2 beaches within close walking distance of house. Both are ideal for families/children. The nearest beach is 2 mins away and is quiet and picturesque, with wide sea views and a wooden diving pontoon for older children. A 2nd beach is 10 minutes walk away; this has a larger sandy, very shallow beach and is popular with local families. A good meeting place (and most Swedes speak superb English!) There are many opportunities to explore nearby islands w. ferry links.
The house is 77 kilometres from Arlanda International Airport with rental car hire. 10 mins from terminal with shuttle bus: an hour's beautiful, easy drive to house. Room for 2 cars outside house and more nearby. Car advisable, although house accessible by public transport (bus stop is 1 kilometre walk from house)with excellent bus service to Stockholm. Trains are reliable in Sweden.
5 kilometres to seaside village Furusund. 21 kilometres to seaside town of Norrtalje. 70 kilometres to capital city Stockholm.
Nearest small shop is in Furusund, where there is also a nice restaurant with sea views and cafe. Ferry across to next island with cinema, restaurant etc. Another ferry-connected island is 3 kilometres away with restaurant. 21 kilometres away is the charming, traditional seaside town of Norrtalje, with excellent supermarkets, banks, shopping, restaurants, lively music/cultural scene.
