About Noelle Griffiths
Noelle Griffiths is an artist who paints and makes artist's books. She and her family live in Hafod y Llyn cottage (available to rent for part of the year), the old gamekeeper's cottage on a 30 acre estate in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales. Hafod Cottage (nearby but out of sight) was the old stables and dog kennels for the estate and was renovated in 1991 as a holiday cottage. Noelle teaches art part-time in Wales and Spain.
Noelle Griffiths purchased this Cottage in 1962
Why Noelle Griffiths chose Blaenau Ffestiniog
Noelle has been living at HAFOD since 1988 when she married and moved into her husband's family home. Set in 30 acres of mountain woodland, she and her family have lovingly restored the land to its former beauty by felling conifers, re-planting with oaks and returning some land to pasture in 1991. It is 3/4 mile from the road, along a track which passes through some beautiful scenery. It is private with no other cars apart from ours and our guests. It has wonderful walks from the front door, as well as a request stop (5 minute walk from Hafod cottage) for the Ffestiniog Railway. A swimming lake is a ten minute walk away. It is the perfect place to relax in nature and explore Snowdonia.
What makes this Cottage unique
Hafod is very secluded, our local road is 3/4 mile away so you cannot hear or see traffic. You can walk to the local pub along paths and a track, only crossing the road once outside the pub! Our cottage is nearby and but out of sight. Access is along a track which in places is narrow, steep and rough. Not suitable for unconfident drivers. HAFOD is close to the sea - sandy beaches of Harlech or the beaches near Porthmadog of Borth y Gest or Criccieth - all approx 20 minute drive away. Snowdon mountain range is also approx 20 minute drive. Lots of castles, slate caverns, zip wire and bounce below, mountain bike riding at Coed y Brenin, the Italianate village of Portmeirion are all approx 20 minutes drive.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
We had the best family holiday at Coed Hafod-y-llyn. Central to all Snowdonia's attractions, but also has woodland walks straight from the garden and tracks leading to the cottage. Lyn Mair and a swimming lake is only a short walk away.
We had lots of walks, but my favourites were a six mile walk in Beddgelert (don't forget to see Gelerts grave) following the Fisherman's path, through Aberglaslyn Pass. Also walking Cadair Idris up the Minffordd path (6miles): the kids first mountain hike! Views of the lake are stunning.
Coed-y-Brenin is just down the road for walking/trail running/mountain biking.
We were a tired but happy family and dog by the end!
Harwich beach is wonderful. Will visit the castle on our next visit.
The track leading to the cottage is initially intimidating/challenging/fun? Depends on your viewpoint. But you soon get used to the in/out times and gate openings. Plus, watching the steam train pass by is enjoyable.
The cottage itself is basic but with everything you need. Very homely and cosy. Comfortable beds, which is very important! There are OS maps of local area in the info folder, but you may want to buy some of North & South Snowdonia as well.
Already booked our next holiday here, as a week wasn't long enough.
Lovely cottage set in idyllic setting. We were able to take our dogs for long walks stopping for coffee and cake at the railway station cafe. Lovely, relaxing holiday.
A beautiful basic cottage away from it all in magnificent surroundings. We will certainly book again.
Absolutely beautiful cottage and surroundings!
Very relaxing stay - highly recommended!
Rare find - lovely cottage in remote, beautiful setting
Loved the cottage. Beautiful setting.
Lovely property a hidden gem
Had a wonderful time here. Fantastic location, beautiful walks from the door. Don't be put off by the drive up to the cottage. It's really not that bad and so worth it!
