Private Steps Down To The Beach, Walking Distance Of Superb Restaurant. WIFI.
Villa Alba is a beautiful 3 bed villa which has been lovingly and beautifully renovated to a very high standard. The setting is idyllic. The property is right on the lakeside and private steps lead down from the garden to the lakeside and beach. Since it is southwesterly facing, the outside area enjoys the sun all day long, making it perfect for leisurely days swimming and sunbathing. It is also located within walking distance of a great restaurant. You can catch a boat from nearby Portovaltravaglia to all the other towns and villages on the lake. If you wanted to explore further afield, it's only an hours train ride into Milan city centre whilst Verona and even Venice are also accessible from the villa. You're not far from the Swiss border either so you have all that Switzerland has to offer on your doorstep too.

About Jo Mackay
I am a mother with 2 young children, age 9 & 12 and a very busy husband! I gave up work with Procter and Gamble 9 years ago to spend time at home with the children. I have loved being able to spend so much time with them. However, with both children now at school, I was keen to start working again. I initially enjoyed managing two of our own holiday properties in the Italian Lakes which we bought in 2008 and 2009 following our first visit to the area in 2007. However, I have now started to manage holiday homes for others, not just in the Italian Lakes, but elsewhere in Italy. I carefully select each property and ensure that I maintain that personal but professional service level that I believe holidaymakers are looking for.
Jo Mackay purchased this Villa in 2010
Why Jo Mackay chose Porto Valtravaglia
This property is in an absolutely stunning location right on the lakeside. It is the sort of property you really do have to tear yourself away from to go and do some sightseeing! You have the beach on your doorstep and a restaurant just a few metres walk away along the beach. I fell in love with Villa Alba as soon as I saw it!
What makes this Villa unique
Beautifully renovated, creating a welcoming contemporary property which feels both luxurious but homely. It has all the mod cons you could possibly need during your stay. But above all, the setting is absolutely idyllic. Where else can you literally walk out your door, down some steps and either lie on the beach or take a swim in the wonderful lake waters?

Lakeside Villa with Fabulous Views
We enjoyed two lovely days and nights at the quiet and beautiful Villa Alba. Having not realised it was an entirely self-contained house this was a definite bonus!! Our 2 girls (aged 3 and 6) loved the quirky "floating" twin bedroom - and although ideal for them, I probably wouldn't recommend the room for children any younger.
We took Grandma with us and she was pleased with her "room with a view" of the stunning Lake Maggiore and mountain backdrop. Our room was equally comfortable with stunning view and balcony.
The villa is well-equipped and beautifully presented. Lots of nice "home-from-home" touches too - like hand wash in the bathrooms, washing up liquid and kitchen roll provided. All so handy when you've travelled from abroad - and especially for such a short trip!
There was a lovely local restaurant guide provided by the owners too. Unfortunately the closest one (5 minutes walk away) wasn't open, due to the time of year, but we went to two very nice places in the local town of Porto Val Travaglia, which were very nice.
We enjoyed some lovely sunshine and the girls loved paddling in the lake right next to the villa. Freezing - as you would expect in February - but we can imagine in the warmer weather the lake would really come to life.
A fantastic, family mini-break, which has given us a great introduction to lakeside holiday opportunities! Thank you!
Hi. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for taking the time to write a review and do please get back in touch if I can be of any help with trips to Italy in the future.
Emplacement parfait du logement. Très reposant, aucune nuisance sonore. Rien ne manque au niveau équipement.
So pleased you enjoyed your stay and the property more than met your expectations. We very much hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.
Il a neigé sur le lac majeur !
Arrivés sous la neige et repartis sous le soleil on a bien profité de cette très belle villa. Même en hiver le lac est magnifique mais cela donne envie d'y revenir en été....
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay and had the rare chance to enjoy the snow on Lake Maggiore this Winter! We very much hope that we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the Summer months.
Schönes Haus, direkt am See
It was an absolute pleasure to welcome you and your family to Villa Alba. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay and made the most of those spectacular sunsets! We hope to be able to host you again in the future.
Schöner Urlaub mit Hunde
der Aufenthalt war sehr angenehm. Hatten alles was wir brauchten. Wetter war toll. Hatten für den Strand Badeschuhe dabei.
I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for choosing Villa Alba!
Tolles Haus direkt am See
Coast/Beach: Villa Alba is situated directly on the lake with private steps leading down to the beach and lakeside. Nearby Maccagno is one of the best beaches on the lake to enjoy watersports such as windsurfing, sailing and kitesurfing. Many towns around the lake also have their own lido with lake access and wonderful swimming pools. Of note are those at Locarno, Lugano and Ascona. Travel: Fly to Milan Malpensa: Approx 45 miles from the property. See Easyjet and Monarch for flights from LGW. British Airways offer flights from Heathrow. Fly to Milan Bergamo: Transfer time approx 120 mins. Fly to Milan Linate: Transfer time approx 120 mins. A train service runs from Milan Central Station which will take you to Luino in 1-2 hours depending on the day and time of travel. A taxi service can then take you from Luino to the apartment. Distances: The centre of Portovaltavaglia is under a kilometre away. The village has a popular (but small!) market every Monday between 8 and 1. It also has an icecream shop, cafe and newsagents. The village also boasts an excellent restaurant - AGC Ristorante - right on the waters edge serving modern Italian cuisine. There is also another excellent and popular restaurant just a few metres walk from the property - Monte Sole - which again overlooks the lake. Further Details: The property is perfectly placed for visiting Luino, Cannobio, Cannero, Stresa, Ascona & the Borromean Islands. A great day out is the Lake Maggiore Express by boat up to Ascona and Locarno where you take the '100 Valley' train into the Swiss Alps then connect to Stresa and back by boat to Luino. Also in Switzerland, Valle Verzasca is worth a visit. You can visit the Verzasca Dam which features in Goldeneye. The setting is idyllic. Como is just a 45 min drive. Lake Como enjoys its own ferry service and features Bellagio and Varenna plus Villa Carlotta. In the other direction, Orta San Giulio is definitely one of the prettiest villages on any of the Italian Lakes. It's only a 45 min drive from Lugano & the Monte Salvatore funicular. There is a beautiful lido here too which I would recommend. The brand new lido in Locarno (opened Oct 2009) is also superb. Or you can catch a train into Milan and go shopping. It's a short metro train ride to Santa Maria delle Grazie and Da Vinci's painting of 'The Last Supper.' If you're more of a sports fan, you can take a tour of San Siro stadium. For cheaper shopping, Luino boasts the biggest weekly market in Europe. Or you could have a look at Foxtown, an outlet centre where the most famous brands offer their products at factory prices. Nearby Maccagno is one of the best spots on the lake to enjoy watersports. Val Veddasca is ideal for hiking. The scenery and nature is fabulous. Most of the nearby mountains also have tracks for mountain bikes. The area offers plenty to do for children - Swissminiatur, the Alprose Swiss chocolate factory and the European Museum of Transport. Monte Tamaro is a great place with an alpine bob sleigh and the longest flying fox in Switzerland! Or you could try your hand at falconry or visit a safari park! There is a huge waterpark near Milan.
