Modern Fisherman's Cottage with Stunning Uninterrupted Views of the Moray Firth

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Cottage in Findochty, Moray, Grampian, Scotland - Peaceful Location Directly Opposite Secluded Beach

This beautifully built modern property is directly opposite one of the best secluded sandy beaches in Findochty, and has stunning views of the Moray Firth. In the 1800's fishing was conducted from this natural inlet and this is also where the famous painting 'Home With The Tide' was painted by James Clarke Hook, which currently hangs in the Tate Gallery. The house provides the perfect place for relaxation and unwinding. Spend some time wandering through the historic fishing streets and walk along to the marina to watch it's creel and pleasure boats, then amble up to the cliff tops to take in the panoramic views or even a spot of dolphin watching! There are other beaches within easy walking distance and opportunities to be more active with cycling, golfing and sailing nearby.

About Jacqui

We live in Aberdeenshire and have been holidaying in the area for many years as we have family living nearby. We fell in love with Findochty after spending many family holidays here. Our house is a real home from home for us and we love spending time here. We hope you will enjoy it and Findochty as much as we do.

Why Jacqui chose Moray

We chose this property for its location as we all love to be beside the sea and you couldn't get much nearer than this! I can watch my kids playing on the beach from the house, they play there in the sun and in the snow! The view is great and I love that it is a very peaceful and calm location which is full of history. It's a great place to re-charge your batteries!

Wonderful home in picturesque setting

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is tastefully renovated and decorated, containing everything you might need for a getaway. The living rooms feels homey, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is very well sorted and there are plenty books and games. The view is stunning as the tide rolls in and out of the natural harbor right across the street. Findochty is a charming little village, low on modern entertainment but high on character and charm. Fully recommended!

A warm and welcoming home by the sea

  • 5 of 5

A well equipped and cosy cottage overlooking the Moray Firth, which is a 30 second walk away from the front door. A great spot to explore the surrounding area. This was our 4th visit to The Hythe, and hopefully not our last. A credit to the owner.

Lovely cosy winter break

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in what is one of the most comfortable and cosy cottages you could get. Everything has been finished to a high standard and the location right across from the beach and bay was just idyllic. Jacqui, the owner, was incredibly flexible with us when we had an unavoidable change in our dates due to a bereavement. We followed many of the recommendations previous people had recommended in their comments and all were excellent. We would add the award winning Cullen Skink (and the other food we had) at the Cullen Bay Hotel. We also had a great visit to the South Lissens Pottery near Cullen which had really unique pottery and art - some of which is now in our home! We had a great time and will be back. Thank you a Jacqui.

Number 1 The Hythe was exactly as described. The cottage was clean, warm, welcoming and well equipped; it had everything we needed for our stay. In fact it was a bonus to even be in charge of our own heating temperature in the winter! The owner was very helpful too when we had a query about taking our dog and communication was prompt and friendly. The pictures on the website tell the truth (rare nowadays) and the area is as stunning as it looks; the views from the front windows will keep you occupied for hours.

Two small downsides: the fan in the (no window) bathroom is very noisy and there is not really any outside space as the garden is of little use. However this does not really matter when the beautiful beach is a mere step across the (very very) quiet road.

Definitely one to book.

Super cotttage and area , would love to stay again

  • 5 of 5

Lovely modern cottage with all you need for a home from home.

Amazing views especially from the bedroom windows.

Our children- age 10 and 12, loved being able to play on the small beach/ cove directly opposite (about 10 yards away) , there is a bigger beach about 3 mins walk away which we spent many hours skimming stones on. There are short and longer walks to do, a swimming pool at Buckie- 5 mins drive and a go Kart track about 30-40 mins away.

Also great lunch, coffees and milkshakes at Bijou by the sea- 1.5 miles away.

There is convenience store in the village, and a pub, but not much else. This was not a problem as we just stocked up when we were out and about. We loved the remoteness, fresh air and wonderful scenery everywhere.

Within walking distance there is a restaurant/bar, post office, mini supermarket with off-licence, pharmacy, hairdresser and children's play park (top of Morven Crescent). Buckie and Cullen are approx 3 miles away in opposite directions. They have shops, supermarkets, restaurants, banks, crafts, swimming pool (Buckie). Elgin is the nearest city, approx half an hour drive, with all the usual amenities.

The Buckie and District Fishing Heritage Museum is worth a visit and they are very welcoming and friendly! Baxters Highland Village in Fochabers, is where you can stock up on local produce, see an original Baxter's shop and sample their delicious food hall. Johnston's of Elgin is a must to purchase beautiful Arran, Fair Isle or Cashmere garments, again with a great restaurant. Macduff Marine Aquarium features marine life from the Moray Firth and you can see the divers hand feed the fish. There are lovely walks at the Fochabers Winding Woods and the Bin Hill, nr Buckie to name but a few. For the kids there are soft play centres in Banff and Lhanbryde, a swimming pool in Buckie and a Leisure Centre in Elgin which has a pool with water slides and an ice rink amongst other things. There is also ten pin bowling and a soft play area at Bowl 2000 in Elgin. For Mountain Bikers - check out the Moray Monster Trails in Fochabers!
