About Diane Mortlock Campbell
Our names are Diane and Graham Mortlock. We are approaching retirement and have decided to move to Eastbourne where, of course, we also enjoy the sea! We hope to be spending more time in Madeira when we retire. We love this apartment and have enjoyed putting it all together with guests in mind. It is lovely and very rewarding to get the very positive feedback from our guests, some of whom return every year.

Why Diane Mortlock Campbell chose Caniço
We love Canico because it is quiet and peaceful, but has all the facilities one needs for an enjoyable and restful holiday. It is very much a Madeiran area. The beach is a 10 minute walk away, as are the two 4 star hotels where you can use their facilities, such as swimming pool (take your own towels and preferably buy a drink - not compulsory but advisable as you are not a paying guest at either hotel) and a bookable tennis court. Hotels generally don’t mind non guests using their pools so long as the non guests behave in an appropriate manner. Hotels also offer other chargeable facilities such as beauty treatments, massages etc .
What makes this Apartment unique
The apartment is convenient to the bus stop, just 4-5 minutes away down the hill. The buses are very punctual and get you into Funchal within 20 minutes, from where you can get other buses to take you all over the island. The apartment offers so much space. Even when 6 people are staying, you do not feel over crowded. There is plenty of room on the terrace for everyone to enjoy the spectacular views of the ocean, islands and terraced farmland. See the cruise liners go by, as well as the Porto Santo ferry, fishing boats, yachts etc. The apartment also boasts a games room with snooker table (260 x 135cm), electronic darts , board games, books etc.

This is a wonderful place to stay.
We really enjoyed staying here. It is very spacious, well appointed and has everything that one could possibly want. It is perfectly located for exploring Madeira being close to the VE1 which takes you quickly to the major attractions of the island. The road to the property is a bit scary as it is a very steep hill needed first gear and strong nerves to start with but we soon got used to it. This is a lovely apartment and we gladly recommend it for a short or long stay.
A delightful and spacious apartment - exceptionally well equipped with private parking
This is an exceptionally well equipped and spacious apartment in a sunny location affording good access to eastern and central Madeira. Without doubt the best-equipped kitchen we've encountered in over 15 years of booking this type of rental holiday accommodation. The living areas are very spacious and balconies catch the sun from sunrise till around 3pm (in Feb). Gorgeous views to the Deserted Islands. The only downside for us was the noise from the dual carriageway that runs below the town. It mars enjoyment of the outdoor space a little , but the topography of the island is such that you will struggle to find properties not in earshot of this road. Owners and agents very quick to respond to any queries. Our first visit to Madeira and we loved it - gorgeous scenery and lush vegetation, great walking and great fish & seafood. Welcoming people and English widely spoken in tourist facilities. Having a dedicated secure parking space was a useful luxury. Lower Canico has an attractive promenade and some good value eateries. Upper town a large Continente supermarket and small farmers market on Sunday. Recommended.
A wonderful apartment on a wonderful island.
We had the best family holiday in this apartment that we've ever had. The apartment was immaculate and very spacious, with fabulous views from the balconies (yes, that's pleural!) - Madeira itself is such an interesting place, we packed in lots of things over a week and in hindsight it may have been better to take things easier over two weeks. Other reviewers mention the road noise and whilst we did notice this on our first day, we quickly got used to it and it wasn't intrusive at all. In fact, the road and tunnel network in Madeira makes it possible to get anywhere within an hour so see it as a plus. To get the best out of your stay a car is essential. We hired a little VW Up which was fine although it's so hilly that on one slope the family had to get out so I could drive up it! I found the driving pretty thrilling but my wife didn't quite have the nerve for it! This was a perfect holiday- I would suggest that if you have very small children it might not be so suitable given that there are very few sandy beaches, but all in all Madeira is the perfect holiday destination and I really hope to return to this apartment one day.
Feels like home!
First time in Madeira and didn't know what to expect. Diane was very helpful from the word go and very prompt on replying to our emails. The apartment is huge and has everything you could possibly want. Very well equipped kitchen and as for the views from the veranda...who needs a TV??! My other half was totally shocked that I didn't even switch the TV on in the whole 10 days we were there! We loved it that much that we have booked to return again in September. Thankyou for sharing your lovely home. Barry and Carol
Great Christmas 2014 @ this fab apartment
We stayed whole festive season 2014. Apartment is wonderful. All mod cons, comfortable, clean, excellent view of sea from balconies, great location for getting around via car (bus available too). In addition to the facilities, the games room with darts and snooker was excellent to keep our party entertained. And to top all this, we really appreciated (especially our children) arriving at the apartment to see a tastefully decorated christmas tree - total surprise and nice touch which made our festive holiday the best yet in Madeira. On island agent was accessible and helpful too. Would thoroughly recommend.
This was our second visit to this extremely comfortable, well equipped apartment. It is lovely and spacious, has great views and is well placed for both the beach and other places of interest. Being able to use the facilities of two local, smart, hotels, is an added bonus plus the pool table provides great entertainment. I have no hesitation in recommending this apartment, it is the best apartment we have ever stayed in.......we will be back!
The beach at Reis Magos is a 10 minute walk away, and provides sunbathing areas with umbrellas. Adjacent to the beach is a large lagoon-type area with sand, ideal for families. There is a lifeguard on duty most of the time and there are changing rooms and showers available. No charges are made. One of the main attractions of this beach is the fish restaurant. It is very informal mand offers five star fresh fish meals straight from the boats daily. And don't forget the snorkeling here!
Funchal Airport is 7km from the Apartment and takes approximately 15 minutes. Arrangements can be made to pick you up from the airport for 20 euros. Car hire is available at the airport or through the owners if you want to pre-book. If you prefer to holiday without a car the bus stop is a few minutes from the apartment. The bus will take you into Funchal in 20 minutes. We would recommend car hire so you can fully appreciate the scenery Madeira has to offer. Also if hills are a challenge!
Approx. 7 kilometres to Funchal, 7 kilometres to airport
Small supermarket about 10 minute walk away
Main supermarket in Canico Central 10 minute drive by bus or car
The marvellous fish restaurant at Reis Magos has already been mentioned (try their mixed fish dish!). Canico has many excellent restaurants. Tennis is available at the Riu Palace Hotel. They make a small charge and it is recommended you book beforehand. Both the Oasis and the Riu Palace also offer their other facilities, such as gym, table tennis and swimming. We recommend you use Pride of Madeira which is located in Canico central (details in Guest Folder). They offer escorted levada walks with a maximum of 8 people and also mini bus tours with a maximum of 15 people. This company does such good trips and walks and many of our guests find this a more relaxing way of seeing the Island. Canico de Baixo is a good location from where one can hike and walk the islands' amazing levada irrigation system spanning some 2,500 kilometres.
We provide tea, coffee, sugar, milk, butter and dry toast to welcome you on your arrival.
