About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage in a beautiful village location

In a village renowned for its outstanding beauty, architecture and tranquility, The Byre is a three bedroom luxury self-catering cottage in a delightful courtyard setting. Situated near to the award-winning Fortingall Hotel and the famous 5000 year-old Yew Tree, it is just two hours from both Edinburgh and Glasgow. The area is rich in beauty and wildlife, set in the heart of Perthshire with its hills, lochs, rivers and woodland. The small town of Aberfeldy is eight miles away and the picturesque village of Kenmore at the head of the River Tay is just six miles. Glen Lyon, Scotland's longest and loveliest glen stretches West for over 35 miles and the silvery ribbon of the River Lyon echoes the contours of the village as it wends its way Eastwards to join the Tay. The Byre offers spacious and comfortable accommodation for up to six guests in three bedrooms with two bathrooms and small private garden with BBQ and seating looking out onto woodland. Wheelchair accessible. No Smoking.

About Julia Loudon

We are passionate about Scotland and the beautiful area of Fortingall. It is such a magical place where time seems to slow down to a much gentler pace. We feel very honoured to own a property in such a fabulous area and the large number of returning guests seem to validate our opinion!

Julia Loudon purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Julia Loudon chose Perthshire

The Byre was converted from a former cattle shed in 2007 along with The Stables, The Salmon House and The Granary in a delightful enclosed courtyard setting. Our home is Perthshire and we adore the tranquility of the area and encouraging visitors to share in the magic and enjoy the countryside.

What makes this cottage unique

We love slowing down from the hectic pace of life associated with work and cities. Fortingall is so peaceful and is a superb base for walkers, climbers as well as for those touring around the Scottish Highlands. The Byre is located within a few steps of the Fortingall Hotel, where guests can eat in the restaurant or relax in the cosy bar.

Cottage location perfect with every imaginable comfort and charm

This cosy cottage is a gem located next door to the Fortingall hotel and the famous Yew tree. Walks in the surrounding mountains and hills offer spectacular views. We saw Perthshire at its very best. Would thoroughly recommend it.

We fell in love with this accommodation as soon as we walked through the door.. it's well equipped, very clean and well situated in some of Scotlands most impressive scenery..... we couldn't have asked for more... the log fire in the evenings was the icing on the cake...

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to post a review. We love to hear that our guests have enjoyed themselves, and we are pleased that we have got it just right in terms of accommodation, comfort and equipment. And of course the log burning fire is lovely! We can't take credit for the location (apart from choosing it, of course) - Fortingall, Glen Lyon and the Loch Tay area are so beautiful.

Lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for a long weekend with some friends and would definitely recommend it. Even better than it looked in the photos. Highlight for us was the lovely large living area with comfy sofas and open plan kitchen/dining area - makes it ideal for families and friends. Very well equipped cottage with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Nice village pub with log fire, short drive to Aberfeldy, and plenty of walks. Great if you want to get out or explore, but equally good if you want to stay in with a glass of wine curled up in front of the log fire.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to post your comment on the website. I love hearing that our guests have enjoyed their stay at The Byre and feel that their every need has been catered for! The local facilities are indeed wonderful - including the cosy pub just a few steps from the door of the cottage where great food is also available.

And not a pig in sight!!!

  • 5 of 5

Fortingall Byre is, as we discovered on talking to the owner during our stay, a converted piggery! We were absolutely delighted with the place when we arrived in the small hours of the morning after a long journey. The owners had been very accommodating about this. The cottage had everything we needed and was in such a beautiful location. Very handy to the pub too! The log burner was very welcome when we returned from our day spent either on the river Tay or watching those on it at the slalom competition at Grandtully. Only wish we could have spent longer there.

Owner's Response: It is great to hear of guests enjoying The Byre - it is such a cosy cottage in a beautiful and quiet location, but with lots to do nearby in Aberfeldy, Loch Tay and the surrounding hills, glens and rivers (and the pub only steps away, of course!). We love staying there ourselves when we feel the need to wind down from our hectic lives!
