About Sarah Machin

My husband, Sheamus, and I live next door with our 2 young boys, cat named Lucy and 2 dogs called Dapper and Whistle. I run our small holding, work part time and run the holiday let business. I have lived in the area all my life having grown up on a local dairy farm. Sheamus moved down from Wheaton Aston, Staffordshire in 1990 and is a self employed Land Agent. Our children attend the village school and we are very much part of the local community. I love baking (you'll get to taste some of my cakes when you stay here), walking and being busy!!

Sarah Machin purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Sarah Machin chose East Devon

This cottage has been in my family (back to my great Grandparents) for over 90 years. When the chance came, we just had to buy it!! It offers a quiet rural position but you are only 15 minutes drive from the bustling market towns of Honiton and Wellington.

What makes this cottage unique

Windover Cottage offers an experience which you might not find with other cottages. Our 3 key attractions are:

Inside the cottage, a freshly backed Victoria sponge cake (made with our own fresh, free-range hen eggs or, when in season, goose eggs), a pack of our own sausages and pot of home-made jam or marmalade will be left for you along with tea, coffee, sugar and a jug of milk.

In the garden is a hen arc and 3 lovely hens (named Chocolate, Bridget and Copper). These lovely ladies will keep you in fresh eggs during your stay.

Windover Farm Cottage is part of a 15 acre smallholding. Save you scraps and feed them to the rare breed Gloucester Old Spot pigs, admire the various breeds of hens and watch the geese and ducks as they paddle around.

Guestbook comments from the owner

'Having read the reviews and viewed the website we made a last minute booking to stay over New Year. The process was simple and the confirmation email contained useful info and easy to follow directions. The cottage more than met our expectations and the photographs really don't do it justice. We arrived on a frosty day to find the log burner laid, the Christmas Tree still decorated, home produced eggs and sausages in the fridge and the most scrummy cake waiting to be devoured. The owner, Sarah, was warm and welcoming, attentive without being intrusive. The girls adored having their own chickens to care for, as well as making friends with the two pigs, ducks and geese. The birds on the feeders were plentiful this time of year and our id skills have improved greatly following numerous games of " bird bingo"! When we did manage to persuade the girls to come inside there were plenty of toys, books and DVD 's to entertain them. We did find a DVD was missing from it's case, this was mentioned to Sarah and a replacement appeared by the end of the day. All this activity meant that the girls slept like logs, allowing us some much appreciated grown up time. We treated ourselves to a great takeaway curry, delivered by the nearby Viceroy. We also ventured into nearby Hemyock for dinner at the Catherine Wheel, also very good. We could happily have spent all our time in the immediate vicinity but we made the half hour car journey to Sidmouth and the nearby Donkey Sanctuary which the girls loved.

All in all we had a magical, memorable holiday and can't wait to visit again to experience Windover in the summer.'
