House/Villa in Lacoste, Nr. Bonnieux, Luberon, Vaucluse, France - Quiet But Only 5 Minutes Walk To Cafe And Groceries

On the edge of the lovely village of Lacoste, a charming and stylish four bedroom house only 5 minutes from cafes and boulangerie, but quiet, private, and very comfortable. There's a gated pool, a mature, shady, enclosed garden (approx 1/3 acre) and a pretty terrace for eating out. The house is nestled in the lea of the hill and so avoids the Mistral, and it's 1000 feet up so in high summer evenings are often a little cooler than in the valley. Inside, the house is spacious, light-filled and contemporarily decorated, with beautiful views of Bonnieux and the Luberon. It as a large well-equipped, kitchen/dining room (we like to eat), plus an excellent collection of books and DVDs. WiFi internet broadband. Good markets and restaurants nearby. Luberon villages of Menerbes, Bonnieux, Goult all 10 minutes away.

About The Owner

We’re a family of four with school-age children and have been coming to the area since the early 1990s. We bought the house from someone who’s since become a friend and still comes to stay once a year. It's not luxurious but it is comfortable. We’ve reached grumpy middle age and find we mind about lumpy mattresses and pillows. We’re very interested in food and restaurants so the house has a good selection of cook books, a serious kitchen and our house manual has a good list of local cafes and restaurants and markets. We are particularly proud of having brought the garden back to life. We rent the house to cover our costs, to fill the house when we're not there, and to use anything left over to improve it.

Why The Owner chose Lacoste

We love the area, the combination of forested hills, fruit trees, vines and lavender. Even in high summer it still feels lush. We also like the fact that though you're away from the tourist hordes the area feels lively, with markets, cafes, summer village fetes votives, concerts and live music. At the same time, if you choose, you can just sit in the garden, watching the bees buzz round the flowers or the shadows move over the hills, with a glass of rose and a book and feel completely at peace.

What makes this house unique

We bought the house because even though at the time it was a bit run down, we felt it had a distinctive very nice atmosphere. We also love the amazing views and its perfect position, on the edge of the village but not in it, and so close to the loveliest villages of the Luberon.

Notes on accommodation: The house is simply but stylishly decorated and since we’ve reached the age where we mind about these things there are comfortable mattresses and decent pillows. Fans in all the bedrooms, heating for cooler nights. Excellent library of books and DVDs -- including cook books. Lovely views, good terrace and large table for eating outside. Though the house sleeps 8, we think it's ideal for a party of 4-6. No stag or hen parties please. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: We have a very nice cleaner who comes in once a week. Extra cleaning can be arranged. Linen and bath towels are provided and changed once a week -- please bring your own pool towels.

Home from home in a great location.

We returned again, (four adults-two teenagers) to this lovely house for the third time. It is really "home from home" everything you will need and more. Set in a delightful area with an easy drive to all the pretty villages in Provence, the owner is a delight to deal with, with lots of help and information if required. A lovely sunny garden to sit in, local wine and cheese al-fresco in the evenings, super. We have no hesitation in recommending this property, delightful.

Comfortable with lovely views!

A lovely comfortable house with four good sized double bedrooms, a lovely large eat in kitchen with sofas ideal for all getting together and a comfortable sitting room. The kitchen opens up onto a paved terrace for al fresco eating. There is a lovely cottage type garden with shady areas too and of course the pool!

There is an ensuite shower room and a family bathroom upstairs plus another shower room downstairs. The mattresses on the beds were really comfortable and we all slept well!

The kitchen is well stocked and we cooked several times making good use of the fresh herbs in the garden. The kitchen was stocked with oils and vinegars and spices etc with a fridge in the kitchen and another fridge freezer in the storeroom where the washer and dryer were also kept. Lots of room for keeping drinks nice and cool!

The house is situated on the edge of the village with lovely views to Bonnieux. You can buy basic groceries bread etc in the village which gas pretty narrow streets! Quite hilly!

Negotiating the driveway to the house was a bit tricky but we soon got the knack of it and you can always park across the road if you don't fancy it!

A good base for exploring the area or just relaxing. We walked through the cedars woods on the ridge just outside Bonnieux and the views from up there are amazing!

A magical holiday

We spent relaxing days sitting in the pretty, sun drenched garden and warm evenings on the terrace with stunning views across to Bonnieux. This thoughtfully designed family home is airy, spacious and a pleasure to stay in. The beds are comfortable and we enjoyed cooking in the kitchen. Plenty of space for our party with secluded sunny nooks to escape to with a book or a drink. Perched as the house is on the edge of Lacoste, it's easy to explore great markets and discover the many picturesque towns and village nearby. We had such a wonderful time...thank you!

A true taste of Provence

Spacious hllside house with wonderful views from the attractive dining terrace and garden. Well equipped and comfortable -a reader's paradise. Easy access to Provencal markets in small towns with a good range of cafes. Worth spending more than a week to enjoy the Provencal way of life.

A lovely village setting with great valley views

A lovely family house conveniently situated at the edge of Lacoste within short walk to the village. Very peaceful. The house was very clean and comfortable with light airy rooms. 2 bedrooms have great views towards Bonnieux and the valley, as does the garden. There are adjacent houses but the garden is private with plenty of planting to keep it secluded and providing nice shade. We loved the terrace with its good sunny aspect. Great for outdoor meals. Lacoste is well situated for the many pretty villages in the area as well as larger places of interest further afield. Bonnieux just a few miles away has small shops and good choice of restaurants. Definitely recommend.

A house with a lovely view and beautiful garden

We had a lovely week staying in this holiday house in Lacoste. The house is spacious and well equipped but the best things were the garden and views. We ate every meal on the terrace outside. Lacoste is very well situated for walking in the Luberon and exploring the villages. The Sunday market in Coustellet was a great place to stock up at the beginning of the holiday.

Car hire recommended. There are local cabs and bike hire, but your shopping options and movement will be quite restricted otherwise.

The hillside villages of the Luberon and lovely towns of Provence:

Luberon villages (Menerbes, Bonnieux, Goult, Gordes etc) 10-15 mins. Apt, Coustellet 15 mins; Isle sur Sorgue 20 mins; Avignon and St Remy 40 mins. Aix-en Provence, Arles, Orange 1 hour. Pont du Gard, Uzes, Nimes, Carmague 1.5 hours.

Further Details:

The house is 5 minutes walk to the cafe with the best view in the Luberon and a small basic epicerie. 10-15 mins drive to good food shops and supermarkets, pharmacies, atms in Bonnieux and Coustellet. The area has good restaurants, food shops and daily markets. (Bonnieux 10 has Eric Loubet’s Michelin two-starred Bastide de Capelongue). We give lots of details in our house manual. It’s also famous for walking (spring and autumn) from serious hiking to gentle strolls, and cycling. The Avignon festival and Pierre Cardin’s Lacoste arts festival run through July; there is an annual chamber music festival in August in local churches.

We usually arrange for guests to be met at the house, given the keys and shown about, and we have a local contact to help with any problems.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Saturday, but there can be some flexibility especially outside June to September. See booking availability. Extra days are charged at 1/6 weekly rate. Extra cleaning can be arranged for an additional fee.

House rules: Children must be supervised around pool. Pool gate must be kept fastened. Bins and recycling must be cleared out and emptied at end of stay.

Arrival after 4pm, departure before 10 am.

Notes on prices:
The house is available on request outside standard season dates (April to end October).
The pool is open from mid-late May to mid September. If pool is required outside these dates — particularly in October — extra costs incur and rental price may be slightly increased.

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 7 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
