About Helena Willford

Zoe and Julian Willford own Allercott farm and have lived there for 31 years. They are active members of the community. Both being keen archers, the West Somerset Archery club has a field archery course on the farm. Zoe helps run the local riding club and participates in numerous events during the year. Julian produces Exmoor honey and sells it across Somerset. They have a vast amount of knowledge of Exmoor and can tell you about many hidden treasures to visit during your stay. Their daughter Helena is in charge of bookings and everything up until your stay on the farm.

Helena Willford purchased this barn in 1980

Why Helena Willford chose Minehead

Exmoor is a stunning area, we love the location. The farm is down a long drive and feels so private, away from cars and noise! The scenery is beautiful, with views up onto Dunkery Beakon and across the channel to Wales. It is a small farm with cows, sheep, horses and lots of wildlife. We love to walk on the farm every day with the dogs.

A few years ago we decided to convert a barn into what is now the two holiday cottages as it seemed like an ideal opportunity and one we wanted to share with people. The barn used to house animals in the winter, but now we have moved their accommodation further up the yards.

What makes this barn unique

Benefits include a peaceful stay away from towns and noise! The scenery on the farm is stunning in any season. We have open fields and woodlands which have lots of wild life, with deer often spotted. The woodland along the bottom of the farm in the valley has lots of ruins from a Victorian village called Clicket.

There is an archery group who meet regularly on the farm.

We have stabling in the summer months for one horse and paddocks. The are plenty of bridle-ways from the farm.

Dogs have a very large garden to run free in, or walks anywhere on the farm on a lead.

Perfect family holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Our cottage BeesKnees was perfect for our needs as a small, young family.

So much had been thought of to make our stay really easy.

We were made to feel so welcome around the farm.

Our little boy got so much out of seeing the sheep and horses and sheep dogs. Being able to go for walks on the many paths around the farm was great too.

We loved the farm pack menus, we had all of them - the BBQ pack, the breakfast pack and the picnic. All were so delicious, great value and because we only had to chuck things on the gas BBQ outside it didn't feel like we had to cook at all! Definitely recommend doing that.

Everything about the cottage was comfortable and clean and very homely. And good wifi too!

We loved the location and being on a farm. We would love to come back in the future.

The weekend was too short!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in the dark and had little idea of our surroundings. In the morning, it was a treat to see the beautiful countryside around the farm. The accommodation was very clean, well appointed and perfectly suited to us and our Sprocker Spaniel Sam. We were visiting family in the area, so didn't get to explore the immediate area too much, but the cottage is perfectly suited to get out in woods or over moors. The tea tray was waiting on our arrival, as promised, and we had a friendly visit from Zoe (Helena's Mom) to make sure we were alright. The farm dogs were all wonderfully friendly and Sam made friends easily. We hope to go back soon.

Absolutely brilliant!

  • 5 of 5

The Bees Knees Cottage is just exactly that! The Bees Knees! The cottage is beautiful and has a good sized garden and the orchard - giving plenty of space for little pups like mine! Totally secure and easy access. The cottage is in the heart of the farm - the horses nuzzled over our wall looking into the master bedroom. The cottage is well equipped and we needed nothing - but the family are on hand if you do require anything. We loved every minute of our stay here - the only thing we missed was the sun!( but that's not their fault)

Very nice cottage.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was very comfortable and surprisingly quiet for a working farm. Walking around the farm was a treat for us and our dog and the farm dogs were very friendly. One of the dogs was very adept at climbing onto the garden wall, using the garden as a toilet and exiting at the other end of the garden! The breakfast that we took advantage of was also lovely. I would recommend staying here.

Property very tidy inside and out, lovely old barn. Garden well laid out with privacy.

  • 5 of 5

Loved staying here, it was so peaceful and tranquil, would like a month here by myself to really chill. Liked the blackness and quietness at night. Although a working farm it was not noisy or mucky. Dogs very laid back and friendly. The property was well equipped with everything you needed. Immaculately clean as well. Beds, pillows and bed linen very comfortable. Loved the double bed room with stairs going into the private garden. Helena, Riadan and families also could not have been more friendly, but not in your face.
