About Helena Willford

Zoe and Julian Willford own Allercott farm and have lived there for 31 years. They are active members of the community. Both being keen archers, the West Somerset Archery club has a field archery course on the farm. Zoe helps run the local riding club and participates in numerous events during the year. Julian produces Exmoor honey and sells it across Somerset. They have a vast amount of knowledge of Exmoor and can tell you about many hidden treasures to visit during your stay. Their daughter Helena is in charge of bookings and everything up until your stay on the farm.

Helena Willford purchased this barn in 1980

Why Helena Willford chose West Somerset

Exmoor is a stunning area, we love the location. The farm is down a long drive and feels so private, away from cars and noise! The scenery is beautiful, with views up onto Dunkery Beakon and across the channel to Wales. It is a small farm with cows, sheep, horses and lots of wildlife. We love to walk on the farm every day with the dogs.

A few years ago we decided to convert a barn into what is now the two holiday cottages as it seemed like an ideal opportunity and one we wanted to share with people. The barn used to house animals in the winter, but now we have moved their accommodation further up the yards.

What makes this barn unique

Benefits include a peaceful stay away from towns and noise! The scenery on the farm is stunning in any season. We have open fields and woodlands which have lots of wild life, with deer often spotted. The woodland along the bottom of the farm in the valley has lots of ruins from a Victorian village called Clicket.

There is an archery group who meet regularly on the farm.

We have stabling in the summer months for one horse and paddocks. The are plenty of bridle-ways from the farm.

Dogs have a very large garden to run free in, or walks anywhere on the farm on a lead.

Perfect family holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Our cottage BeesKnees was perfect for our needs as a small, young family.

So much had been thought of to make our stay really easy.

We were made to feel so welcome around the farm.

Our little boy got so much out of seeing the sheep and horses and sheep dogs. Being able to go for walks on the many paths around the farm was great too.

We loved the farm pack menus, we had all of them - the BBQ pack, the breakfast pack and the picnic. All were so delicious, great value and because we only had to chuck things on the gas BBQ outside it didn't feel like we had to cook at all! Definitely recommend doing that.

Everything about the cottage was comfortable and clean and very homely. And good wifi too!

We loved the location and being on a farm. We would love to come back in the future.

Well equipped, clean, comfortable cottage in peaceful location with friendly owners

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in Beesknees. Roxie our dog just loved being on the farm. She was quite safe in our large garden - she had access into next door's garden and vice versa. We ordered the "Breakfast Pack" which was great. The farm dogs are soooo friendly as are their owners. I had no phone signal but the WiFi works. King sized bed comfortable as are the two sofas. Plenty of hot water. We want to return,

Lovely cottage in beautiful location!

  • 5 of 5

Had a lovely stay in Beesknees cottage. Beautiful location and cottage is lovely. Didn't want for anything, very well equipped and suited us perfectly! Daughter particularly liked talking to the horses on the farm! Lovely pub nearby in Wheddon Cross, although not within walking distance. Mixed bag of weather but what do you expect in the UK in August. Lovely sandy beach at Minehead and Dunster beach great for crabbing! Exmoor Zoological park is about 30 min drive and well worth a visit. One of the best small Zoo's we have ever visited!!

Thoroughly recommend staying at Beesknees cottage and would definitely go again. Very good communication from the owners too.

Fantastic accommodation, excellent location

  • 5 of 5

The listing was spot on, this is a fantastic place to stay. We have just returned from a week on the farm enjoying the amazing views and warm hospitality of Julian and Zoe. The cottage was clean, well presented and lived up to the picture postcard images on the website. The farm is in a great location for everything on Exmoor, we did days out to Lynmouth and the Valley of the Rocks, Dunster Castle, Dunster Beach, West Somerset Steam Railway, Cleve Abbey, The Tarr Steps and of course Pony Trekking on the Exmoor Ponies. We would recommend this cottage to everyone.

Everyone was very friendly, the accomodation was like home from home. The location was ideally sited for walking, siteseeing all around the Somerset and Devon area. For treats there were loads of good restaurants not too far away. The farm was delightful and the holiday was very relaxing.
