About Margo Addison-Scott
We are Chris & Margo Addison-Scott, and we live in Fife, Scotland. I was a lawyer, now retired, and Chris is a Chartered Surveyor. Since I gave up the law, I run the family farm, and gardens. Much more interesting! We have 3 children, Alexandra who now lives and works in London, Jamie is now a Commercial Surveyor, and Ben is studying biology at Glasgow University. The photo of me is at Royal Ascot - our annual visit. I don't normally dress like that - more likely to be in shorts and T-shirt!

Why Margo Addison-Scott chose Cupar
Chris's family have owned this property for about 150 years, so it is a very special place to us, and we love to show it off to guests. It is a mixture of traditional and modern, with all the benefits of a superb location, near to St Andrews, with easy access to Edinburgh, and of course, the East Neuk of Fife. We have been renting holiday accommodation both in Scotland and in Portugal, for many years, and I think ( I hope!) we are getting better at it every year. We've learned that most guests don't want a rather uncomfortable walk-round introduction to the property - especially if they've had a long journey, and simply want to relax with a cup of tea. So, we have a key safe, and we send guests the code, and let them investigate and explore the cottage. We always have a welcome pack waiting, and although the goodies left often vary, it always includes tea, coffee, milk and sugar. I am contactable throughout your visit if you need help, but otherwise, we just let you enjoy your holiday.
What makes this Cottage unique
Garden Cottage is an enchanting mixture of old and new. It is a traditional stone built cottage, originally for the estate gardener, but now it is fully equipped for your comfort and convenience. The location of this cottage is peaceful and tranquil, set in the heart of our country estate. It has views over the duck pond to the front, and rolling hills and fields at the back. But it is still within easy reach of Cupar and St Andrews, so is a perfect base from which to explore Fife, Edinburgh, and further afield in Scotland. We love travelling, and we know from our own experiences abroad that what you really want in holiday accommodation is peace, tranquility, and a comfy bed! Garden Cottage will provide that, and a lot more.

Perfect, quiet cottage to explore Fife.
The cottage exceeded our expectations. It was perfect for our 3 weeks in Fife. The house is well equipped for a family stay and in a lovely location. Margo was a responsive host.

Thank you so much for taking time to write such a lovely review! I’m delighted you enjoyed your visit to Garden Cottage. Welcome back anytime!
A very cosy cottage with a good feel about it. We had a young family which the cottage perfectly catered for. The kids beds were low with teddies and all. There was a good sturdy cot just out of the main bedroom if you needed it. The garden was very pretty and spacious. Our 3 yr old liked the cottage garden the most out of anything in scotland. There were plenty of towels and washers and bathroom soaps. Puzzles and games for the kids. Kitchen was well equipped with oil and fresh homemade bread! Much better cottage than you would standardly expect! Endless things to do in the picturesque region also. Thankyou!
Thanks Peter. I'm so glad you any your family enjoyed their visit. Please thank Robert and William for leaving such amazing drawings. They are both now on our listing photographs. I hope they'll enjoy seeing them there. Margo
Our family of 3 adults stayed almost a week and thoroughly enjoyed this place. The cottage itself is charming, comfortable and reasonably well equipped. The kitchen is very small but has a hob, oven and dishwasher, as well as a washing machine with dryer setting. This helped us dry clothes the night before we left because it was too wet outside for line drying. The beds were clean and comfortable, and both bathrooms were nicely updated. The cottage was heated on a timer which we did not know how to access, so sometimes when we were home in the afternoon and the mist had moved in, it was a little chilly (we're from California, so easily chilled), so we wore extra layers.
We walked the extensive, picturesque grounds and encountered not only dozens of sheep, but also pheasants, wild turkeys and even four frolicking foxes! This was a real treat.
Margo was a great communicator through email, and at least two people on the grounds offered us meaningful information.
We explored St Andrews (The Old Course and the town) and down the coast through Crail (The Lobster Store) and Anstruther (fish house!), up to the mid Highlands to Pitlochry (Blair Castle and Edradour Distillery), down to Edinburgh and out west to Stirling, Largs, Loch Lomond and Glasgow. Each was an easy day trip. Even the town of Cupar was charming and abundant, with a few gift shops, ample grocery shopping, petrol stations, and an excellent bottle shop, Luvians, where the staff are very accommodating.
All in all, a great stay and we'd love to return some day!
We had a fantastic week at the Garden Cottage. The cottage is in an amazing location, close to a town but surrounded by beautiful countryside and with a huge and private garden. Our 18 month old loved the outdoor space and the climbing frame so much. The traditional cottage is really well equipped and has everything you need.
Margo left a fantastic welcome package including wine, bread, a smoothie and baby yoghurts (amongst other things)which was so thoughtful and really appreciated.
The cottage is in a great location for exploring the surrounding area, we went to St Andrews, the Scottish Deer centre, Cairns Fruit Farm, Elie beach among others. Loads to do for adults and children!
Thank you Margo for a lovely stay.
Beautiful quaint, character cottage
Peaceful surroundings, suitable as a winter and summer destination. Wonderful log fireplace. We used it as a base to see, by car, the surrounding areas and to travel up north to the Cairngorms and south to visit Edinburgh. Would recommend the cottage for a relaxing break.
Fife has some of the most lovely beaches in Scotland. There are the famous East and West Sands of St Andrews, as filmed in Chariots of Fire, the beautiful white beaches at Tenstmuir, and the more rugged beaches of the East Neuk of Fife, which is famous for its traditional fishing villages, such as Pittenweem, and Anstruther, and many others. All well worth a visit.
Edinburgh Airport is about 50 minutes drive from Cupar. Cupar itself has excellent rail links to Edinburgh city centre. There are bus services to St Andrews, Perth and Dundee. Perth is about 40 minutes form Cupar by car, and St Andrews and Dundee are only about 15-20 minutes away by car.
Cupar is well served by supermarkets and local shops. There is a large Tesco, and the local co-op supermarket is good and worth trying, particularly its butchers. We thoroughly recommend Fisher & Donaldson - a local baker with branches in St Andrews and Cupar - with the most delicious cakes! There are many good restaurants locally. The famous Peat Inn restaurant is only about 15 minutes away, and the (haunted) Inn at Lathones is just beyond St Andrews. There are many other restaurants locally, and we'll be happy to recommend others. There is also a local reliable taxi firm, so you don't need to worry about driving on an evening out.
