Set in two and a half acres of land, including woodland, the property has far reaching views across the heart of the Dordogne. It is a short distance to many popular tourist attractions and amenities making it the ideal base for a family holiday, or simply to use as a rural retreat. The house is situated towards the end of a small access road serving 3 properties only, making it very peaceful and tranquil, with no passing traffic.

There is a private 10m x 5m swimming pool with solar cover and roman steps. In line with current French legislation it is surrounded by a security fence and fitted with a lockable, child-proof gate, for your peace of mind when visiting with young children and non-swimmers. Sun loungers and parasols are provided for your comfort.

Outside there is a very large garden, ideal for all sorts of ball games and recreational activities or just to enjoy the fantastic space and scenery. There is a terrace at the rear of the property.

The accommodation comprises a large open-plan lounge/diner with plenty of comfy seating for 8 guests. We have provided UK Freeview satellite TV channels and free, internet WiFi access for your convenience and enjoyment.

Double glass doors open out from the lounge on to the terrace with outdoor table and chairs for 8 under a gazebo, BBQ and stunning views across the valley. A perfect place for alfresco dining at the end of the day.

There is split sleeping accommodation making it ideal for two families sharing. It comprises a self-contained downstairs double bedroom and twin bedroom with separate toilet and bathroom (with over the bath shower) and an upstairs double bedroom and twin bedroom served by a large shower room and toilet. Cooling fans are provided for your comfort.

There is a fully equipped kitchen and utility room with fridge/freezer, fan oven/halogen hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer.

All bed linen and towels are provided, including pool towels.

Everything has been provided for you to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.

If you enjoy stunning scenery, peace and quiet, private pool, sporting activities, many places of interest to visit, good food and wine then Chene Bois and the Dordogne is the ideal place to visit at any time of year.

Change-over day is a Friday.

We fell in love with the Dodogne region after a camping holiday 25 years ago. When an opportunity came to buy a house in the area we, along with a friend, jumped at it.

Why this property?..The house, the garden, the space, the pool, the area.

The nearest neighbour is over 100 metres away. The access road only serves 3 houses and a farm so there is no passing traffic.

What's not to love.

You can be as active or as relaxed as you want to be. You can spend the whole week spending time on your own or with the family at the house or you can walk, cycle, explore, canoe, wine-taste and eat your way through the week with masses to do and see.

Many people drive to the house (8 hours from Calais) but it is very well served by Bergerac and Brive airports, both within an hours drive.

What makes this house unique

You can visit 4 chateaux within a 5 mile radius of the house, explore caves within 10 miles and visit prehistoric settlements within a 45 minute drive.

Sarlat la Caneda is the local medieval town with stunning architecture and twice weekly markets and is only 20 minutes away by car.

The River Dordogne is only 10 minutes away where canoeing and swimming are popular activities.

The nearest village with a convenience store, butchers, bakers, post office, cash point machine, bar and restaurant is only 5 minutes away by car.

Beautiful well equipped property

We spent 2 relaxing weeks at Chene Bois in September 2016.

It is located in a peaceful rural location of The Dordogne region in France in large grounds with a private pool. The property was very clean and well maintained.

It is a 10 minute drive to Castlenaud, 20 minutes from Sarlat and there are many tourist sites within a short drive including Beynac, Domme, La Roque Gageac and the River Dordogne itself.

The property is beautifully appointed with generous equipment and is spacious enough to accommodate 8 people in 2 double rooms, 2 twin rooms and with 2 bathrooms (one with bath, one with shower)

There is an outdoor covered Gazebo with a table that seats 8.

The pool has a cover that keeps the heat in at night and was a real bonus on the hot days there.

There are great walks around this area and one of the Radonnee walks goes right past this property - see walk 13 in the pack of walks in the property.

We hope to return to this property again. We have visited the dordogne a few times and other regions of France and this is the best property we have stayed in in all that time.

We would recommend visits to Beynac and Castlenaud castles, Rouffignac, Font de Gaume prehistoric caves and Grotte de Padirac cave, but not during French lunch time (12;30 to 14;00 usually)

Also a canoe trip on the Dordogne is a must, 'Canoes Loisirs' at nearby Vitrac Port is a company we have used several times.

Also a visit to Sarlat market on Saturday or Wednesday is a must.

Thank you to the owners also for dealing with a minor issue during our stay with internet access, prompt email replies and a phone call to me sorted the issue.

Peaceful location

Chene Bois is a lovely, well equipped, spacious house in a peaceful location. We were 2 families both with 2 children, so having the bedrooms split over the two floors was really good. The pool is well maintained and very welcoming in the hot weather! The pool is away from the house, but this was one of the reasons for choosing this property. The house has a lovely terrace area, which gives much needed shade when having lunch. Having English tv (sky) was great, as we were able to watch the Olympics. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need, and also has a BBQ outside.

We went canoeing on the Dordogne, which is a lovely day out. Other nearby attractions include many chateaux's and a bit further out are the caves at Padirac.

I did have a few queries/questions prior to our arrival, which Tim answered very promptly.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, and would definitely recommend it.

Homely and well equipped with fantastic pool

Really comfortable, clean property in a peaceful location and not too far from many tourist sights (e.g. Scarlet, canoeing, chateaux). We particually enjoyed walking to chateau Millandes one afternoon via some quiet lanes and doing the family-friendly cycle route from Castelnaud. I liked that there are two bedrooms on each floor with a bathroom between them. Wifi and being able to watch the Olympics on the BBC was a big bonus. Pool was great size - warm enough during the hot weather we enjoyed.

While the house decor will not win awards for interior design and one or two home improvements may have been done on a budget (e.g. the modification of the indoor dining table!), it really does make a fantastic base for exploring Perigord Noir and has everything you need for a happy stay.

Having stayed in many villas ourselves over the years there has certainly been a wide variety of interesting interior colours and decors that we have come across, some more appealing than others. So we were keen to decorate Chene Bois in neutral tones so as not to 'offend' the eye and to maximise the sense of the house being light and airy. Your point about the table is noted, however, the original dining table would only comfortably seat 6 people and as we cater for up to 8 guests it was important that the table was large enough for all guests to sit, hence the extension and table cloth. Thanks once again Vicky, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Chene Bois in the future.

Perfect Place To Relax

This villa is the most perfect place for a quite and relaxing holiday. What lovely gesture on arrival two complimentary bottles of wine. The villa was very clean and it was very handy having Wi-Fi so we could find out good restaurants and places to visit. The views from all angles of the villa of the woodland and wildlife was beautiful. This is also a great location for cycling. Robert the maintenance gentleman was really helpful when coming to book a taxi for us. I would highly recommend this property.

Travel:

The house is best served by Bergerac or Brive airports, which are only an hour away and and various airlines now use these routes. Cars can be easily hired at the airport. Other airports including Limoges and Toulouse are within a couple of hours drive. By road the journey is approximately 8 hours from Calais.

Distances:

The house is less than a 10 minute drive to the nearest village, Castelnaud la Chapelle, which is home to Castelnaud castle, a 12th century fortress. Here a bakery, butcher and grocery store as well as cafe, restaurant and Post Office/ATM can be found.

The main town of Sarlat is 20 mins by car. The stunning towns of Beynac and La Roque Gageac, named “the most beautiful villages in France ", are only 10 to 15 minutes away. The medieval town of Domme is 13.5 km away where there are many restaurants and a weekly market.

There really is everything for all visitors in this most wonderful part of France. With so many prehistoric caves, medieval villages, vineyards and châteaux to visit you can explore a different place everyday, or simply sit back and unwind at home and enjoy the tranquillity of the surrounding countryside.

Outside: The property has its own drive and large, lawned garden. The swimming pool (10m x 5m) has been fitted with a dark, 'natural' pool liner and Solar cover to help keep the water warm (and it does). It is fully fenced off for peace of mind and secured by a child proof lock. The pool is available from April to September. At the back of the house there is a patio/barbecue area with stunning views and table/seating for 8. The rest of the land is mainly woodland. Utility Room: The utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels (including pool towels) and linen are included in the rental price. The property will be cleaned before arrival and additional services, including extra cleaning, can be arranged by guests either before or after arrival. Other: There is a lovely patio area with wooden table and chairs and a barbeque where guests can relax at the end of the day and admire the stunning scenery.
