Relaxing holiday in farmhouse with pool
Relaxing holiday deep in the French countryside. Lovely swimming pool for cooling off on hot days.
Lovely relaxing holiday
We have never been to this part of France before but we were lured by the size of the pool and how lovely the farmhouse looked in the pictures. We arrived very late as its quite an epic drive from Calais, but as soon as we were sat outside looking up at the clear sky and the amazing stars we felt relaxed. To be honest we pretty much stayed put for the week enjoying the pool and the tranquility. The farmhouse is well equipped and we used the BBQ most nights. Super market not far away. If you are looking for some peace and quiet away from the usual busy hectic pace of life, then this is the place to be. Ruth is very helpful and makes sure everything is perfect for you.
A fantastic gite with private pool & every modern convenience and buckets of old world charm.
We arrived on a hot, sunny summers evening to this charming gite in the quiet hamlet of Hanc and were instantly bowled over. It is simply beautiful!
Every modern convenience is provided for in the house including a very thoughtful and practical welcome basket (the champagne was very much appreciated 😉) to get us settled in.
Whilst temperatures hit 33°, the fabulous private pool provided cool relief from the hot weather. The lovely Ruth Louise, the property owner, called by to clean the pool (it was immaculate) and provided us with great information & advice on sightseeing etc. We were a family of 5, (2 adults & 3 kids14,11,9) and we completely switched off. Most days we lounged by the pool, barbecuing in the patio area and chilling in the hammock. We were in heaven!
On the days we ventured out, we hit up Futurascope (well worth a visit), the town of Cognac where we took a tour & tasting of Martell, but our highlight was Vallee des Singes, getting up close and personal with many breeds of monkeys.
The area is quiet, but exactly what we wanted and needed. Chef Boutonne is an easy 5km drive to the local supermarket and we stocked up on food & vino there. Papa Jos italian restaurant in Chef Boutonne is excellent.
We will definitely return!
Emma, lovely surprise to be informed I had a new review, I don't get very many these days with a lot of guests being repeats, so thank you so much for bothering to take the time of sharing the experience of your holiday and stay at the farmhouse , I'm sure future guests will find your comments most helpful....
I'm so glad you all enjoyed your holiday, you certainly had fantastic weather from start to finish so it couldn't have been better,
It was a real pleasure to meet you and your family, you make great coffee and it was a first for me, with breakfast to boot!! you'd definately be welcome to come back again anytime, it would be my pleasure.
Thank you for looking after all the flower pots with the heat and for leaving everything so neat and tidy, its always very much appreciated.
Have a great summer and hope to see you all again sometime, until such time
take care of yourselves, Ruth
Gorgeous place for a relaxing break
The house was beautiful and well-kept and everything was thought of. There was a lovely welcome pack when we arrived after the long journey along with plenty of information for things to do in the local area. Ruth came to clean the pool whilst we were there and was super helpful with information for Futuroscope and also with finding somewhere to replace our punctured tyre! Hopefully we will be back soon!
Many Thanks Again for everything Ruth, and sorry for the delay in the review!
Lyndsay, thank you so much for taking the time to send your kind review, it seems so long ago now that you were here and being totally unexpected, it was a lovely surprise, always very much appreciated...it always great to know that guests have enjoyed staying at the farmhouse and had a good holiday, (despite flat tyres!!) and certainly useful to future guests for sure.
I'd be delighted to have you come stay again and look forward to having the pleasure at some time again in the future, take care Ruth
We've not long returned from almost a fortnight in this lovely house. It's in a quiet village, with gorgeous grounds front and back (giving you sunshine at any time of the day) which aren't overlooked and a fabulous private pool that's a great size for swimming and playing with inflatables and balls. Our kids loved it...as did we. The house itself is lovely and the downstairs with the thick stone walls and pretty, blue shutters is a cool haven when it's hot outside. It's spacious and the facilities are great. It has everything you'd need. E.g. a good BBQ with BBQ tools, dishwasher, washing machine, books, 2 showers, outside tables front and back, a well equipped kitchen and a lovely patio etc.
We were very last minute in making our arrangements and Ruth (owner) couldn't have been more helpful and as we arrived late on, the welcome basket of groceries was much appreciated....especially the fizz!
We had several day trips including Cognac, Poitiers (fututoscope) and across to the coast at Ile de Re so although rural, as long as you don't mind a bit of a journey, there're lots of interesting things to do. Locally, the scenery is beautiful with vineyards and fields of sunflowers and pretty villages. The wildlife is abundant...saw my first Beech Marten climbing up the house wall and am still amazed at the Humming Bird Hawk Moth that visited the garden most evenings. Definitely recommend.
Fiona hi there, so sorry to be so slow in responding but thank you so much for your lovely review, very much appreciated, it always a great pleasure to know that holidaymakers have enjoyed staying at the farmhouse and had a brilliant time, again thank you so much for leaving everything so neat and tidy and for looking after the flower pots. It would be a pleasure to have you stay again some other time but perhaps with a little more warning next time lol!!! Take care and hope you have a good summer Ruth
Everything we hoped for, and more...
What attracted us was the pool, which didn't disappoint; it's big (12.5m for lengths) and it's completely private, in the back garden, which also has terrace for eating, and lovely big tree shaded corner for when it just got too hot. Although maybe worth mentioning that it was very cool inside the house itself on hot days. We wondered if the farmhouse would be too big for just the two of us, but it worked out perfectly; we had a lovely bedroom on the groundfloor, along with bath, shower and toilets. If you did have a large family there were three more bedrooms and bathroom upstairs. There was a very generous welcome basket, including a gorgeous jam made by the owner, and several stunning breakfasts! The house is well stocked with all the pans etc. you need to cook just about anything. The owner comes round to clean the pool a couple of times a week, and was just lovely and helpful without being intrusive at all.
The farmhouse stay was everything we hoped it would be and more. The big surpise was the village. The farmhouse is on the edge a beautiful and peaceful village - but also immediately accessible to some lovely walks and runs. There aren't any major hills, mainly flat with gentle slopes - and next to no traffic. You can watch incredible skies and melting sunsets as you walk alongside shimmering wheatfields, and thousands of giant sunflowers, flowing across gently sloping fields. It's really worth taking the time to walk through the village, and along the lanes and tracks in any direction. I think children would love it too.
Unfortunately we didn't book in time, and missed the Friday night dinner at the local Auberge, so make sure you book early. Next time. However, we did discover a wonderful restaurant in nearby Pioussay, Aux Choeurs De Bacchus. Again, you need to ring and book ahead, as they only have 3-4 tables, but the food and wine are divine (retired sommelier and chef). It's very good price, and extremely good food. You can also buy some very fine wines at reasonable prices.
To sum up, I think the owner has carefully selected some small piece of heaven, and is maintaining on all our behalf. Thank you so much for your efforts Ruth, they are truly appreciated. We are planning to return.
Thank you so much Linda for sharing the experience of your recent holiday at my farmhouse, its always a true pleasure to know that guests have thoroughly enjoyed themselves staying here and that you have had a great holiday.
It's certainly very reassuring for potential guests to read a review such as yours, current to the year we're in, comprehensive, complimentary and just full of all sorts of information , it will no doubt enhance confidence for others to follow in your footsteps which is extremely kind of you, it also confirms for them that the farmhouse does actuallty exsist and so do I !!
It was lovely to meet you both and have you stay, thank you again for leaving everything so beautifully neat and tidy, and for looking after the flower pots for me, always much appreicated,
It would be wonderful to have you come and stay again, no problem, anytime.... Look after each other and look forward to seeing you both again sometime, Ruth
