This one bedroom flat is well situated and bright - the view of the Grand Harbour is spectacular! Located in Vittoriosa - (One of the famous Three Cities), it has unobstructed views of the sea as it is waterfront property. You will eat every meal in the window box balcony and never tire of the view by day or night! Vitoriosa is a beautiful Maltese harbour town that has taken pains to restore its buildings and maintain its historical integrity dating back to the ancient Knights of Malta (1500’s). Restaurants and wine bars are all within walking distance. A marvelous location and you will truly feel “on holiday”. Ideal for honeymooners and avid relaxers!
The Grechs are Canadian born but with family ties to Malta. They are pleased to offer this flat to you and trust that your holiday will be fully enjoyed. Only a phone call and 15 minutes away, they are only too willing to help you with any problems you may have during your stay.
Without a doubt it was the view. From the moment we set foot through the door - we were hooked! Our interest in Vitoriosa was due to the historic nature of the location, the feel of the city and the harbour. It is a unique place and has a truly European atmosphere. Nothing is too far in Malta and there is much to enjoy; museums, churches, gardens, beaches, historic locations, and much more. You will brush shoulders with Maltese and not just tourists in this city!
This flat is well located for those interested in history and the opportunity to experience harbour life and Maltese culture. Ideal for evening walks along the marina and the pure enjoyment of beautiful boats and sparkling water. A beautiful location for a glass of wine on a starry night!
We chose Birgu as our holiday location as it seemed quieter and more relaxing than one of the resorts, and we were attracted to the apartment based on the photo of the window view. I can honestly say we were not disappointed. The apartment had everything we needed, it was clean, quiet and the views were spectacular. This was the ideal base for us as it is easy to get around Malta using the water taxi to Valletta and the buses. The shop close to the apartment stocked everything we needed and there are plenty of places to eat close by. The owner was very helpful and provided our airport transfers which was really appreciated. We intend booking this accommodation next year and would recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday in a great location.
We enjoyed our week here and the views from the double aspect sitting room were stunning…a good pair of binoculars are well worth taking. It was hot but we found that sensible use of the blinds, windows and the efficient ceiling fans kept the temperature to a perfectly acceptable level.
The flat, situated in arguably the most picturesque of all Malta’s cities, was accurately described and the steps up from the street caused us (around 70 years) no problems.
Within easy walking distance, there were plenty of small shops for daily needs and on the Cotonera waterfront some very good restaurants. A pleasant, slightly longer walk, around the creek gave access to more shops including some hairdressers and good takeaways.
The nearest shop, just 50m from the flat, was very well stocked and with reasonable prices. We were even able to obtain a large, birthday cake complete with personalised writing…ordered one day and delivered to the shop the next.
The flat owner, Johnna, was very helpful and lives not far away should we have had any problems, which we didn’t. There were ample supplies of all household linen including beach towels as there is excellent safe swimming to be found off the rocks just a few minutes walk away.
Valletta is easily reached by water taxi from the waterfront, is a lovely way to travel and at E2.80 pp return including the lift is a bargain.
If there was a downside, it would be the music some nights from the nearby bar. In fairness, it ceased before midnight and anyway, is beyond the control of our owner.
The final test is, obviously, would we stay there again and would we recommend it to others? The answer is a definite yes in both cases.
Spent a week here recently, travelling alone. Owner kindly brought me from airport to apartment, with good briefing and helpful advice. Apartment is on third floor (accessed by flights of stairs as previous reviews have mentioned) of a four-floor corner block overlooking the harbour, and is fully equipped - the photos on the website are accurate; for max 2 people, I would think. Weather was quite cold during my stay, but owner supplied additional heating and duvets. There is a small grocery shop around the corner from the apartment, and a bakery about 100 yards down the road. Views are excellent, and I think Vittoriosa is a good base location. It's quieter than Valletta, which is easily accessed via bus (approx 20-25 min trip to Valletta City Gate terminal on bus 2 or 3 from outside Vittoriosa gate, €6.50 for unlimited use weekly ticket anywhere on the island - great value, and the bus service on both Malta and Gozo is excellent) or using the harbour ferry (15 min trip, €1.50 single or €10 weekly ticket). Good things to see here also - Inquisitor's Palace was more interesting than I expected, the Maritime Museum is excellent; and of course many of the buildings and locations are associated with the Great Siege of 1565. Overall, very pleased with the experience, both of the apartment and Vittoriosa. Thanks Johnna.
This apartment was exactly as described. The property was clean and everything was provided as detailed however a small investment to replace some of the items of crockery and the living room blinds would enhance the property further.
We were transported to and from the airport by the owner's parents in law who accompanied us to the apartment showing us where everything was which was most helpful.
We would recommend this property to anyone who could manage the 52 steps up to the apartment on the 3rd floor.
The view over the harbour was spectacular and we spent many hours watching the activities on the water from cruise liners and other vessels.
The apartment was a perfect centre for discovering the island and the bus and ferry transport were incredibly cheap and easy to access.
The restaurants on the waterfront were close and provided a good menu and the local convenience stores were open at all hours.
We thoroughly enjoyed our first Malta experience.
What a fabulous find! Booking was very easy and straight forward and it was a real bonus being met at the airport after our late flight by Johnna, who was very friendly and helpful, giving us details about buses and water taxis. The flat was in an ideal location for us as we wanted to see and experience the real Malta rather than just the tourist traps! The views over the Grand Harbour to Valetta were unforgettable, there was always something interesting to see. The flat itself was clean, and although somewhat basic met all our requirements, but some upgrading on the seating would make it even more comfortable. Staff at the local shop and bakery were friendly and able to provide us with all we needed. We would love to revisit Malta and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
Bright, airy flat with superb views of Vittoriosa harbour. You'll be delighted to be located in an area that is authentically Maltese. Wonderfully comfortable bed. We enjoyed our stay very much and would easily return.
Charming owner does all they can to please and accommodate.
Special interest holidays:
Malta is a historical treasure with numerous churches, museums, art galleries, palazzos, prehistoric sites and sea walks to be had. It is no wonder that it was chosen as a location on the recent Royal tour. Locally you will find the Maritime Museum and Inquisitor's Palace. Also the marina with its luxury yachts and cafes, wine bars and restaurants. If you would like a quick Luzzu boat ferry across to the capital Valletta, one can be found at the marina. Don't hesitate to ask us for information about what is available; we are happy to be of service to you.
Locals swim right out front of this flat off the quay but if you prefer beaches there are two within the region (Saint Thomas Bay and Pretty Bay). Northern beaches are a 30 minute car ride.
The Malta International Airport is less than 15 minutes from the flat; we are happy to arrange airport transfer for you. The Maltese bus system is inexpensive and links you to all of the main points of interest on the island. Most tourists find that the busing is more than adequate but if you prefer renting a car, you will find all the major car companies represented at the airport for your use.
There is a small confectionery just around the corner from the flat with a bakery and butcher within walking distance. You will find unique local pubs, wine bars and cafes in the village square as well as full scale restaurants along the marina that will appeal to all tastes.
