The castle cottages, newly refurbished, are on a heritage site, flanking a superb 1500s castle (Tower House). Butlerstown has been in the ownership of the same family for many generations, and it has been the wish of the current owners for many years that its beauty and tranquility should be made more available to the public. Set in 100 acre farm and woodland, in the sunniest corner of Ireland, we are just 10 mins drive from the closest good beach. The castle cottages have their own private Herb Garden and Lavender Haggard, and there is a small soccer pitch for children to play on. Good local restaurants, pubs (such as the Lobster Pot pub/restaurant), riding stables, golf courses, museums and bird heritage sites (such as the Saltee Islands, North Slob and Tacumshin Lake) are all within easy striking distance. Donkeys and other pet animals, and a traditionally run vegetable garden, ancient well and other special features all help to make Butlerstown a unique place.

About Anna Skrine
Anna's family has been living at Butlerstown Castle for many generations. It has been her wish for many years to be able to share the tranquility and beauty of the place with others. Her husband Jim worked for years in London restoring heritage buildings, and running an architectural salvage business. He has done all the restoration and repair work himself to the two cottages (originally a 1600s cowhouse). Anna works with complementary therapies - and organizes workshops at Butlerstown.
Anna Skrine purchased this Cottage in 1780
Why Anna Skrine chose Wexford Municipal District
We moved back to Anna's family home some years ago. People often say it is like stepping into another world coming here, it is so peaceful! The castle, or Tower House, is remarkable in that it is in such good original condition. We are a mile from the sea as the crow flies and there are a number of good beaches within a 10 or 15 minute drive. There are also places of great natural and wild-life beauty nearby, such as Tacumshin lake, and the world-heritage Saltee Islands which are accessed from Kilmore Quay. Anna has a range of pets, including donkeys, free range hens and sheep.
What makes this Cottage unique
We are just 20 minutes from Wexford, and15 minutes from Ireland's main port, Rosslare Harbour. There is good access to excellent restaurants, pubs - the Lobster Pot is a well known pub/restaurant - riding stables, Johnstown Castle museum, Kilmore Quay fishing village and golf courses.

Fantastic break away very comfortable and the owners are lovely and very knowledgeable about the history of the castle we had a great time
Peaceful, serene, romatic and also a great place for spending time with loved ones and family
We booked both cottages for a family birthday celebration - three generations who all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The cottages were beautifully restored and well stocked and in the most resplendent surroundings. Whether it’s a romantic break or a family get together this was indeed a most enchanting place in the shadow a fabulous castle - which, by the way, we got a grand tour of by Jim (thanks a million - I still can’t get over the amount of work you put into it - definitely a life-long passion of yours!!). The children loved feeding the animals (just a little bit more than the adults) - thanks Anna. Had the most wonderful weekend and will definitely return. Would recommend it to all. A magical place. Thanks Anna and Jim.
Special interest holidays: Healing workshops of various kinds and painting holidays will become available more and more here. Coast/Beach: There are a number of good local beaches. The closest is 10 mins by car, Ballyhealy beach. This is our favourite, though can sometimes be a little stoney. There are very sandy beaches 15 and 20 mins away, including Rosslare Strand, Carne and Kilmore Quay. Travel: The closest channel port, Rosslare, is just 15 mins drive. Waterford Airport is 1 hr 15 mins drive, and Dublin Airport 2 hr 20 mins. The use of a car is essential, as we are in the country with the nearest small village over 1km away. Distances: Nearest village, Tomhaggard is just over 1km. Wexford town is 12km. Kilmore Quay and Rosslare Harbour are approximately 10km. Rosslare Strand is 12km.
