About Susan Ashelford & Cassandra Gilmore
As a (mostly) life long resident, I love this small city with a big heart. While I've long lived in Milford, I moved to the beach only a few years ago and developed a whole new appreciation for the beauty to be found in this quaint City.
Susan Ashelford & Cassandra Gilmore purchased this Bungalow in 2014
Why Susan Ashelford & Cassandra Gilmore chose Devon / Walnut Beach
I live in this neighborhood and love beach living. Coincidentally, as a young teenager, I used to babysit in this very house. After Hurricane Sandy so many of the original cottages were being replaced with newer structures - it was important to me to preserve one of these special treasures.
What makes this Bungalow unique
The overall benefits are the town itself. Also the towns proximity & easy access to bigger cultural doings; NYC, Boston, New Haven & Yale. The more specific benefits would be beach life.

old cottage--but updated with all necessities. beach charm. everything works well. the beach is a short walk. it is a small space--note square feet. next to open, extensive area of wetlands. close to boardwalk in the state park. overall, very nice. quiet neighborhood but construction is just starting across the narrow street. the yard is comfortable but our weather prohibited use for most days.
We had a wonderful time! The cottage is neat and clean and very close to the beach.
What a great cottage & location! We had a great time and the kids had so much fun that they made us promise to come back!
a really comfy cottage, with everything you need supplied
The cottage is notable for having beautiful, comfy period furniture as well as having all the little essentials there; plenty of towels, lovely ambient lighting, the basics for cooking and cleaning, beach furniture etc. Makes going away so much easier and pleasant. Lovely outside spaces for sitting with your morning coffee/evening beer/taking an afternoon nap as well as being only 2 minutes from the beach for lovely swimming.
The only slight downsides were that it was hard to keep cool in the house, even with the air-con on - but it was a heatwave in Connecticut, so maybe unusually warm - and the bathroom is a little cramped and lacks a window blind. Not enough to spoil anything though - over all a super place for a lovely holiday
Charming, cozy, comfortable and clean
Thank you for making our stay so comfortable. The house has everything we could need, and then some. It's the perfect beach cottage. The beds were comfy and the street was nice and quiet! Once again, we were able to have 4 generations together for our annual family vacation. See you next year.
Very nice cozy cottage. Owners very helpful when we had questions.
Awesome place to stay on a deadend street. Right by a Marsh with a lot of wildlife to entertain you and the kids. Owners are very helpful with any questions you may have. I definitely would go back. The beach and boardwalk are close by and not crowded. Loved it here.
Wish I could give more than 5 stars!
My family and I had an amazing stay at Seas the Day! The owners thought of EVERYTHING to help make our stay comfortable - from movies, to children’s games, books, and activities, bug spray, beach chairs, washer and dryer....I could go on and on, it was all there! When we first pulled up to the cottage, I was jumping up and down with excitement at how cute it was and couldn’t wait to spend the next 12 nights there. We walked in to a very clean and cool space with bedrooms, a kitchen and living room filled with everything we would need. Our stay included many trips to the beach, downtown Milford, an easy drive out to Boston and Newport, RI, and a 1 1/2 hour train ride to NYC. We were visiting my husband’s brother and his family during our stay, so we enjoyed a few evenings with them bbqing, eating, and relaxing on the seating out back. The enclosed porch was perfect to escape the summertime bugs and watch the few thunderstorms that came through. Our kids and their cousins especially enjoyed rinsing off in the outdoor shower when we came back from our trips to the beach. One of our most memorable family vacations yet! This California girl got the New England summer she’s always wanted. We will most definitely be back!
NOTE - Not Walnut beach/Devon area but Silver Sands area
Steps away (1/2 block) to private beach and 6 small blocks to State Beach/Park. Silver Sands State Park features a long boardwalk for strolling. Beautiful views in either direction; house abuts natural marshland (sunset over the marsh is especially spectacular) and water views of Long Island sound in the other direction. A sandbar, visible only during low tide makes Charles Island accessible by foot. It's long been speculated the Captain Kidd buried treasure there during his last visit to Milford in 1699.
