About Sheila McDermott
We are a family of 4, living on a working farm in Sligo. We have been happily involved in the Self Catering business since 2006 with our very popular Beach House in Aughris. In 2012 we bought and renovated another property The Snug in Dunkineely, South Donegal, for our own use and also as a Holiday Let. In 2017 we added The Landmark ( also in Aughris, 1km from Beach House) to our Holiday Let offerings. This has two separate units ( 3bed and 1bed), is also of a very high standard and is also advertised on this site. Both properties are in wonderful locations on the Wild Atlantic Way.
Sheila McDermott purchased this House in 2006
Why Sheila McDermott chose Sligo
We purpose-built the house with separate annex for self-catering in 2006 because we know that it is situated in a fantastic location, beside the sea with lovely sandy beaches as well as the ever-popular Beach Bar.This is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The location is truly a walkers paradise. Many of our guests are families that bring their pets and spend their days on the many sandy beaches around. Aughris is ideally located for people wanting to explore the North West of Ireland. Some guests do day trips, maybe Donegal one day, Achill the next with some R&R in between. Others spent their time walking, fishing, surfing or golfing in the different hotspots around (Enniscrone, Strandhill, Rosses Point).
What makes this House unique
The house is just two minutes walk to 2 miles of sandy beaches. A five minute walk takes you to the very popular Beach Bar so you don't have to worry about transport. The Restaurant at the Beach Bar is open at weekends and nightly in High Season and is very popular with our guests. The pub is open all year around with entertainment in high season. This is an authentic old-world thatched pub and we are very fortunate to have such a popular establishment so close the the Beach House.

Spacious Beach house close to beach
We had a wonderful relaxing time, lots of walks, lots of golf and trips to Sligo and Donegal.
The house was very comfortable and clean.
The surrounding area is beautiful farm land and we had wonderful weather. Ideal for a family or even two families sharing.
Nice Spacious vacation rental, with a great location.
We enjoyed the Beach House, was a great location and the local Pub was friendly and accommodating for the surf rental gear.
great stay at Beach House
we had a great stay at Beach House, Sligo. Nice house near the beach, very quiet. My birthday party at Beach Bar was wonderfull. Music and food perfect. I recommend the whole property.
Hope to see you soon.
Wonderful place to experience the Irish culture and admire the views
After spending time in Dingle and Clifden this was a wonderful end to a great trip. Very relaxing with beautiful views, short walk to the beach and lovely home with fireplace to enjoy the evening with family.
Nice house and location
After booking this property in January, the owner Shelia was very helpful in any queries I had. Upon arrival I had informed Shelia when we intended to arrive but unfortunately this needed to be pushed back by an hour and a half as Shelia hadn't been to the property to leave the key. Luckily we had planned a stop in Enniskillen for food etc and the delay didn't affect us. When we arrived we were greeted with a lovely open fire and a large open living/ dining room. The rooms were good in size and the three toilets (one ensuite, one cloakroom and one bathroom) were appreciated. In the downstairs cloakroom the taps were not tightened correctly and only one worked, but it was manageable. The first night we went for dinner in the Beach bar which was a 5 minute walk from the house. Lovely views en route over the beach and sea. The food was good and the service was excellent. On our way back from the pub I got a text from Shelia to inform me that a couple were going to be staying in the apartment which is attached to the house. I was slightly taken aback that I wasnt informed of this before hand as I may have altered my choice in where I stayed. On reflection we didnt even know they were there. We didn't hear them at all. If I had been informed earlier I would have liked to have my dog left indoors as the couple, who arrived while we were at dinner, had a dog too.
The house was clean in places but could have done with a bit more as there were large cobwebs in the skylights and mice droppings (and traps) above the kitchen cupboards.
Overall the house had everything we needed, a nice pub nearby and lovely walks.
Many thanks Shelia.
I am a little taken aback by some of this feedback
. Check in time is 4pm - this is noted on our listing and is standard with all holiday rentals. When I rang at 1pm and discovered that you were just an hour away I was under a bit of pressure to drop the key down and get the fire on. But I got there before you so this is a non-issue.
. All our web listings clearly state there is a 4bed and separate annex. I sent you the message of the late booking as a courtesy and so that you would park considerately - there has never been an issue with two separate groups staying and I think this was also your experience.
I take your point about the cobwebs in the skylights as they annoy me too but did you notice how inaccessible they are as are the spot-lights for bulb replacement given the height of the ceilings? But this is definitely on my to-do list now.
Thankfully we have not had a mouse to visit in a very long time but it is always a possibility as guests spend late nights on the patio watching the sunset with the patio door open. We have even had a few that went to the pub or the beach without closing the patio door and I am a bit paranoid about a mouse getting in. If they do get in we don't want them to get comfortable so yes I do have bait in discrete locations and yes my trap supply is "overkill"! Having said that I'm not aware of any other guests checking over the kitchen cupboards in our 12 years in business.
It was a pity that in your feedback you did not mention your experience on Saturday night when I had booked the lovely Montmarte restaurant for you in Sligo and asked a local man with a small minibus to rejig his plans and take you there as otherwise you would have had the added cost of 2 taxis for 6 people. That sort of feedback would have been really useful for guests thinking of coming to the area as yes whilst they love the Beach Bar and it's proximity, sometimes they like to go further afield
Beautiful seaside home!
This lovely home served as a wonderful base as we explored the area in and around Sligo. Great beaches, pastoral setting and an authentic pub within walking distance made this home a real treat.
The owner, Sheila, was a real joy to work with and i hope to make it back to her home again for another stay.
