Blackthorn Gate consists of four lodges of two designs the larger lodges Lapwing and Skylark are on two levels the smaller lodges Curlew and Chaffinch are both on one level. All the lodges have the same facilities in them, fully fitted kitchen, en suite bathroom off main bedroom, main bathroom with a sauna off, living/dining room with flat screen TV, Freeview, DVD, and stereo. The living area looks out onto the edge of the N.Yorks moors. Immediately adjacent to the lodges is part of the sixteen acres of new woodland planted in 2001 through which there are paths which you can wander. The farm has become a haven for wildlife, badgers, foxes, deer, and otters are frequent secretive visitors with abundant bird life being more easily seen. We are one of only four places in the area that oyster catchers nest and both little and barn owls fly around the area of the lodges.
We (Mike & Rita) are the owners of Blackthorn Gate which is situated on our 230 acre farm on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. We have lived here with our three sons since 2001 when we bought the farm after working in the soft drinks industry.
Buying the farm was the the fulfilment of a dream to live in a rural location and to have the opportunity to develop a self catering holiday business. During our time here we have planted over 12,000 trees, six km of hedgerow, 3.5 acres of wild bird cover and 1.6km of wildlife strips, dug six wildlife ponds and six acres of fishing ponds, converted the arable end of the farm to growing willow copice which is used in power stations to produce electricity and built the four lodges that are Blackthorn Gate.
Rita Corrigan purchased this in 2001
