We (Mike & Rita) are the owners of Blackthorn Gate which is situated on our 230 acre farm on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. We have lived here with our three sons since 2001 when we bought the farm after working in the soft drinks industry.
Buying the farm was the the fulfilment of a dream to live in a rural location and to have the opportunity to develop a self catering holiday business. During our time here we have planted over 12,000 trees, six km of hedgerow, 3.5 acres of wild bird cover and 1.6km of wildlife strips, dug six wildlife ponds and six acres of fishing ponds, converted the arable end of the farm to growing willow copice which is used in power stations to produce electricity and built the four lodges that are Blackthorn Gate.
Rita Corrigan purchased this in 2001
A most enjoyable and relaxing week, love the lodge, so different from the normal holiday cottage accomodation! Would love to have a return visit sometime!

My complaint- this lodge is just far too nice to leave-grr!! from the moment my parents and I walked into the lodge we fell in love with it. Its clean , tidy, modern and an amazing base for so many places to visit!

It was very easy to feel at home in Lapwing from the minute we arrived. Both Rita and Mike made us extremely welcome, besides which the quality and layout of the lodge suited us to perfection. It will be virtually impossible to find another accommodation such as this so when in Yorkshire we will certainly hope to stay here again
