Derek Kehoe purchased this apartment in 2008
We bought the apartment in 2008 and spent quite a bit of time fitting out the interior with furniture pieces from Maison & Chateau, Italian designed kitchen and high standard bathroom fittings. The small private 14 unit development is perfectly safe for kids. We loved Lake Como from the moment we arrived. San Siro area in particular is great because it is so peaceful. There are also so many outdoor activities for all age-groups and this area via Cremia/Pianello/Dongo is a real mecca for all water-sport enthusiasts. The reasonably priced food/coffee/ice-cream is wonderful with great restaurants in San Siro and the neighbouring villages of Pianello, Cremia and Dongo. There are also newly built stunning lake-front walks (lit at night-time) from Laguna Beach in Pianello and also in Cremia.
The main things we like:-
1. The amazing panoramic views of the village, lake and mountains and the Jewel of the Lake Varenna,Belaggio,Menaggio
2. Private pool for guests
3. Being just 5 minutes walk from the lake-front and the beach area
4. Being able to view the daily water-sport activities from the apartment
5. Close proximity to Milan,Lugano, Bergamo, Como, Lecco - for great day trips.
6. Transport links - Close proximity to 4 airports and bus and rail services as well as the local ferry terminals
7. Italians tolerance of kids in restaurants and public places
8. Proximity to top Italian and Swiss ski resorts in winter
9. Hiring a boat locally to visit the lovely towns and villages along the lake-front.
10. 'Best pizza on the lake' at Creme Caramel

We did have a nice time in San Siro. One of the highlights was our morning walk. As an early bird I was in charge of breakfast service:-) So I walked to local Alimentari in order to buy fresh bread, eggs etc. with my three years old son every morning. We had memorable moments on the way. On the very last day we went to say Arrivederci to lady of the Alimentari and she kissed my little boy many times:-) - Hallfors family, Finland
Special interest holidays:
The NW side of the lake is the mecca for water sport enthusiasts featuring wind surfing, kite surfing and sailing. This area is also ideal for cycling on the lake-front or on the many hills overlooking the lake. There are newly built stunning long lake-side walks at Cremia and Pianello which are both within 5 minutes drive.
There are a selection of beaches locally. Pianello Del Lario's Laguna Beach and the beach area at Cremia, both of which are approx 5 minutes by car, probably offer the best activity as they are meccas for water-sport lovers particularly wind-surfing/kite surfing and sailing. There are two really nice restaurants on the lake side beside the beach area. A beautiful pool has just opened in Managgio on the lake-front which is beside a childrens' park
Milan Malpensa - 1 hour
Milan Linate - 1 hour
Bergamo - 1.5 hours
The airports have rail links to Milan Central Station with trains running frequently to Como City from Milan. From Como there are regular bus services to San Siro.
Reasonably priced car hire is available at all the airports and is recommended to ensure you see as much as possible on your visit as there is so much to see around the lake and in the Lombardy region as well as neighbouring Switzerland.
Menaggio - 10 minutes drive
Como City - 45 minutes drive
Lugano (Switzerland) - 45 minute drive
Milan - 1 hour 30 minutes drive
Lecco - 1 hour drive
Bergamo - 1 hour 30 minutes drive
We are located about a 2 min drive away from the village centre which has shops, bars and restaurants and a number of other shops i.e, green grocer’s, florist. There is also a small shop 1 min walk from the apartment that can cater for all your basic needs (milk, bread, water). San Siro has a lovely beach and there are a number of other beaches a short distance from San Siro including Pianello and Cremia. There are numerous small bars in the village and a fantastic selection of restaurants and snack bars and in the surrounding areas including Zanzibar and Luigi’s with great value in a beautiful rustic Italian setting). Creme Caramel on the lake-front is viewed as having the best pizzas on the lake. The numerous restaurants (mainly family-run) invite you to taste delicious Italian food while enjoying amazing views of the surrounding landscape across the lake. You can be as active as you like or spend the time peacefully relaxing. Take a hiking trip into the wild valleys of the area or explore it by mountain bike. Stroll around colourful markets or take a boat trip around the lake with the whole family. Activities are too numerous to mention - almost all sports are catered for. San Siro (which was formerly known as Santa Maria Rezzonico) lies on the western shore of Lake Como (known also as Lario), on the southern slopes of Mount Bregagno. Cremia is to the north of San Siro and Menaggio/Plesio to the south. It is built on the slopes of a promontory, above which, towers a 14th century castle. The name Rezzonico may originate from the Rhaetic people who lived here, from “Rhaeto”, an Etrurian captain who lived in the area or from the local term “risciulada” which indicates the cobblestone paving so typical of this village. There are many things to see in San Siro; churches, ruins of ancient convents and fortresses along cobblestone paths and nature walks that take you up into the hills.
