About Andrea and Tim

We are a family of 5 that loves London and fell in love with the Royal Arsenal and its rich history when we stayed as holidaymakers!! We have lived and worked in London but have also spent time living and working abroad as both children and adults. We enjoy sharing our home with guests from all over the world--many from countries in which we have lived...along with helping fellow Brits enjoy their Capital City or attend special events or family gatherings.

Andrea and Tim purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Andrea and Tim chose London

Easy & Fun Transport Anywhere in London by Thames Clipper, DLR or Train!

The Royal Arsenal provides the unique experience of living a modern life in surroundings where the entire history of the United Kingdom has evolved...and much of the world! The view and ambiance created by the flat's positioning, outlook and period features makes staying here a one-of-a-kind experience. You can stay in 'new build' anywhere but no other location in London affords the opportunity to stay in a place that influenced the history of the world in such a profound way.

English Heritage says the Royal Arsenal is one of London's most important historic sites.

"The rockets red glare...." & the Victoria Medal Cannons can be seen at the Firepower Museum.

The friendly and authentic welcome of the East

What makes this apartment unique

One-of-a-kind experience and location with so many transport options to hand. Our view of the Thames and historic Royal Arsenal buildings, within the gated 'golden square,' and the ambiance and spaciousness of flat are unique within both the Royal Arsenal and London.

It's the type of place that makes you want to just stay 'home', play games and watch movies together. My husband and I love to sit at the table in the morning with the sun streaming in and read the paper while looking out over the courtyard and the amazing history that surrounds us. The kids love that there is enough room to play Twister, watch movies or retreat to their own spaces with their electronic devices.

The travel links are superb to ANYWHERE in London-DLR/Tube, Train, Thames Clipper, London City Airport &

Notes on accommodation: This window-filled, spacious, light, sunny apartment has 1066 sq. feet of living space, approximately 100 sq. metres, over two floors, so even on a rainy day, everybody has their own area to retreat to. History comes alive in this period warehouse building that has been sympathetically designed to allow you to enjoy its original brick, stone and steel beam features. You can shut your eyes and imagine yourself in the 18, 19th and 20th centuries but you still have all the modern conveniences and luxuries of a 21st century kitchen, bathroom and bedroom! The apartment is perfect for a romantic getaway, a friend's reunion or a family holiday. Children are most welcome in this family home and babysitting is possible. Please let us know if you require a travel cot or high chair. We have an assigned parking space in the gated courtyard in front of the building. We look forward to your stay in our warm and welcoming London home in the heart of the historic Royal Arsenal Riverside. Outside: The Thames River Walk and garden area is seen from the flat and extends east and west along the Thames. It is popular with walkers, bikers, rollerbladers and commuters catching the Thames Clipper at the Royal Arsenal Pier, 3 minutes from your door. The Waterfront Leisure Centre with swimming pool, racquet sports/gym is a short walk west along the riverfront. Wellington Park is just outside the courtyard gate you will use going to the Train/DLR/Bus, shopping precinct, the historic Dial Arch Pub (where the Arsenal Football Club was founded), the Firepower Museum, Cornerstone Cafe and Greenwich Heritage Centre & 24/7 Concierge which houses The Body Workshop & dry cleaning services. Staying in this apartment provides access to the restricted Grand Store/Golden Square or 'heart' of the Royal Arsenal Riverside which comprises many of its most historic buildings. Most areas are pedestrian only--cannons, artwork & artifacts abound. Just outside the building door is our parking spot. Utility Room: Utility cupboard in second bedroom has ironing board/iron and drying rack. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels, linen and final cleaning are included. For guests staying more than 1 week, a change of towels and linen will be provided for every week's stay. Other: Large entrance hallway with mirror, coat stand, spiral staircase, antique wash stand and shower/wc. Travel cot & high chair available.

Love the flat

  • 5 of 5

The flat was brilliant, we were two couples wanting to be tourists in our capital city. The first night we mooched round Woolwich town centre, finding our bearings. The next day on the Thames clipper into London for a full day seeing as much as we could, took about 50 minutes by Boat to the London Eye. After a full day out and about in London we then returned to the lovely flat by Boat as dusk came, opportunity for great pictures of the London skyline lit up. On initial arrival we found the flat easily with the help of Fran who showed us around and how things worked, it was beautifully furnished, very clean, had everything we needed and more, beds so comfy too. Andrea was most helpful returning email questions quickly, plus deposit returned promptly once cleaner had been in to check. Would recommend this flat to anyone, thanks for sharing your lovely home with us :-)

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments. We are very happy you loved the flat and enjoyed your London stay so much. We look forward to welcoming you back. P.S. The train takes less than half the time as the Thames Clipper to the London Eye but there's definitely something magical about sailing up the Thames past Tower Bridge, The Tower, St. Paul's and to Parliament/Big Ben---just like visitors to the Capital have been doing for centuries.

History comes Alive!

We have just returned from our second very enjoyable stay at the apartment. Thank you so much. It is like a home from home. It is so convenient for Excel and also we enjoyed occasionally getting the Thames clipper – an excellent way to see London. As a lover of history it is especially interesting to stay in a building that was once part of the original Arsenal site. I spent the final day of my stay exploring the Tower of London. It was great to walk around such a historic setting, to see the very place where Anne Boleyn was executed and to study graffiti left in the Beauchamp Tower carved by Tudor prisoners in the 1500s – wonderful!

Super stay!

  • 5 of 5

Together with our two teenagers, we have enjoyed another wonderful few days in this lovely flat, having stayed previously 18 months ago! It is an excellent base from which to explore London; this time we chose to take the DLR in to the City centre which was both quick and really scenic. Previously, we have taken the Thames Clipper from the pier just outside the gated Royal Arsenal complex and only a short walk from the flat. It too is an easy and efficient way to get into the City centre with lovely views along the river.

We left our car in the flat's dedicated car-parking space and could then relax knowing it was securely parked and no car parking fees to worry about!

We found the flat to be a veritable "home from home": luxurious, comfortable, well-equipped and with all imaginable mod cons. The owners have left a fantastic assortment of books, both fiction and reference/guidebooks, which we all dipped into. There were also many games and DVDs.

The Royal Arsenal is a fascinating area and the flat offers a wonderful view over the historic buildings as well as the river. We were so busy this time that we didn't return to the 'Firepower' Royal Artillery museum on the complex which we had already visited and wanted to revisit- maybe next time?!

The flat itself is particularly quiet (lovely!), bright and spacious; we love coming here and are already looking forward to our next visit.......

Many thanks Andrea and Tim!

'Woolwich Beach', as it is affectionately known by residents at the Arsenal, is right outside your door. The Thames is tidal and you can see the famous Thames Barrier just west of the Royal Arsenal Riverside. Perhaps you would like to try a little 'mudlarking' yourself, or at least go see what has been found by the 'mudlarks' at low tide, at the Museum of London. If you want to dip your toe in the sea, the Essex and Kent coasts are 45 minutes by car. Brighton is about 90 minutes by car.

A car is not necessary, but we have parking. Woolwich Arsenal Station (Southeastern Trains/DLR-Tube), 7 minutes. Royal Arsenal Thames Clipper Pier, 3 minutes. 24-hour buses, 5-10 minutes. The heart of London is 20-29 minutes. London City Airport is 10 minutes away by DLR. All London airports can be reached by public transport. The EuroTunnel is 50 miles, about one hour's drive. Dover Ferry Port is 65 miles about 1.5 hours. The M25 (junction 2) is 10 miles.

You'll be amazed by how easy and comfortable it is to take the Train, DLR or Thames Clipper directly to the O2, London City Airport, Excel, Greenwich, Canary Wharf, Tower Hill/Tower Bridge, Cannon Street-The City, London Bridge, Waterloo (London Eye, Southbank), Charing Cross (Trafalgar Square, The Strand-Covent Garden-Theatre, Whitehall/Parliament/Big Ben, Leicester Square/Piccadilly Circus) and Embankment. You'll have unique and breathtaking views of London's most famous landmarks and sites.

Further Details:

The Royal Arsenal is 'among Britain's most historic sites', says English Heritage's, Survey of London. Dating from 1545, the historic Royal Arsenal Riverside comprises listed Georgian & Victorian buildings, Wellington Park, 'Firepower': Royal Artillery Museum and Café (the world's oldest military museum), the Dial Arch Gastro Pub, where the Arsenal Football Team--The Gunners was founded, Greenwich Heritage Centre, Tesco's Express--grocery store and Cornerstone Cafe. Woolwich town centre just across the road has a lively street market, shopping precinct, supermarkets & many restaurants: Marks & Spencer, Primark, Sainsbury's, WHSmith, Boots, SuperDrug, Starbucks, NatWest, Nando's and fast food chains--the U.K.'s first McDonald's. Walk or cycle along the Thames Path to Woolwich Free Ferry (or take the Thames Clipper), Royal Greenwich (Maritime Museum, Observatory, Park, Cutty Sark), Thames Barrier, O2 (Restaurants, Concerts, Cinema, Exhibitions, Theatre)

Royal Arsenal Riverside History: In 1512, Henry VIII established a Royal Dockyard at Woolwich. His largest warship, the Great Harry was launched here in 1514. The Arsenal, originally known as The Warren, was established as an Ordnance Storage Depot in 1671. Royal Laboratories were added in 1696 and the Royal Brass Foundry in 1715. In 1716 Royal Artillery companies formed by Royal Warrant. The Royal Military Academy (which has become Sandhurst) originated at the Arsenal in 1720. In 1805, King George III decreed The Warren be known as the "Royal Arsenal". By this time, Woolwich was already a busy military centre. Many of the Arsenal's original buildings remain (this apartment is located in one of them), and historic artifacts, cannons and modern art installations are found throughout the site. The Royal Arsenal carried out armaments manufacture and explosives research for the British armed forces until it was decommissioned in 1967. All Victoria Cross medals are struck from Guns residing at the Firepower Museum.
