La Maison Bleu was designed and built by our family to let in plenty of light and all ground floor rooms open up to the garden. It stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter which makes it perfect to stay all year round.
The living space is open plan with the kitchen/dining area blending into a living room/conservatory. Outside decking can be protected from the sun with the electric awning and there are remote controlled skylights and shutters throughout. All bedrooms are ensuite and there is a double sofa-bed. A Cot and High-Chair are available.
Facilities: large fridge, dishwasher, 4-hob convection cooker and electric oven,microwave, widescreen TV, iPod stereo and broadband internet, private garden.
The Local Area: The house is a short walk to the local beach with extends left and right along virtually the entire coast of the island allowing for plenty of opportunities to walk and cycle. The local markets sell excellent produce including wine, cheese, fruit and vegetables and a selection of Naufrageurs 'Ship-Wreckers' beer born from the legend of local bandits lighting fires to lure ships onto the rocks.

We built the property ourselves (with the help of a local architect in St Pierre d'Oleron) to replace an old barn...our criteria for the design was to have lots of space, height and light
access to the beach is so easy and its also a great place for lookig at the night sky. and the nearby village of La Cotiniere has a very good baker....look out for their organic baguette, fresh every morning .
This was our first visit to Oleron and it certainly lived up to our expectations! We had two young grandchildren with us and the cycle paths meant we could cycle safely with them away from roads. Also there was plenty of room for them to play in the house or the garden. We would certainly recommend this property.
We had a very enjoyable stay at La Maison Bleu. It is perfectly located for the beach and visits to the nearby town of La Continiére. We brought four teenagers with us and there was plenty of room for them all. The house is very spacious and well equipped. The garden is a good size and there are options for eating both outside and inside. The kitchen is particularly good, with fast, effective hob and oven, as well as other home comforts like a dishwasher. There are plenty of plates, utensils and other equipment. We even managed to make macaroons while we were there! We found the house very clean and comfortable.
The house is situated in a brilliant spot for activities; the beach is only a five-minute walk and it is close to many of the island's fantastic cycle paths. We cycled to both ends of the island, as well as to the capital and backwards and forwards to La Continiére where there are excellent ice cream parlours and fish stalls.
Our teenagers loved the proximity of both beach and town and enjoyed the fact that they had plenty of space at the house and garden to do their own thing.
My only very tiny negative point is the round bed in the master bedroom. It is undoubtedly an unusual feature but does not allow for reading or cups of tea in bed!
We loved this rental for our family with young children. The house is clean and spacious with modern kitchen and amenities. The listing is an accurate reflection of the house and rooms. The concierge was kind and extremely helpful and available during our stay. The location cannot be beat as it's only a 5 minute walk to Matha beach. Although we weren't able to bike with our young children, you could rent bikes and utilize the endless bike paths just minutes from the house. We enjoyed walking and driving into La Cotiniere for the market and shops. The fish monger near the Super U sells delicious, fresh fish. Ile d'Oleron is a beautiful, low-key vacation destination that is easy to navigate and enjoy with all ages. We will definitely return to this house and we recommend it without reservations to all those looking for a pleasant beach vacation in France. Book it now!
We stayed in this beautiful house for 4 weeks with friends. When we arrived I won’t believe, that this house is real…
We all loved the amount of big sized windows with the incidence of light, the space in the rooms and the interior decoration. You just have to cook in such a kitchen.
We do not miss something and were great supported by the “petite concierge”. He fixed some minor problems with the internet and the sofa within hours...
So if you want to make a great vacation in a clean, well designed house with great service – come in and have a great vacation.
I rent many houses during the last years on Oleron. But this was just the best we ever rent:
The House is new, big-size and good organized. Everything is on-site and well designed. Many light due to the big windows, indirect cooling / heating, a nice winter garden.
The Service: We had some minor trouble with the Internet access and the couch which was taken care from the local concierge within hours...
The price is high but apprpriately.
Villa is bright and functional, nice to stay in.
Missing: oyster knives, wooden spoon.

Matha is a small village on the west coast of ile d'Oleron near the fishing town of La Cotiniere. Sandy beaches stretch around nearly the entire coast of the island. Ile d'Oleron is connected to the mainland via a toll-free bridge.
La Cotiniere and the nearby St Pierre have restaurants, shops and markets selling excellent local produce.
There are plenty of beaches for swimming/sunbathing and beaches for surfing and bodyboarding. Other activities to be done on the island windsurfing, horse-riding, walking and cycling.
The Nearby towns have good markets selling excellent local produce and the island produces it's own wine/cognac/pineau and beer.
