Spacious house in lovely grounds
We had a very nice stay here. The house is spacious and well equipped - everything we needed was there. It was very hot when we were staying, and I think the only extra we could have had was air-conditioning although there were plenty of fans and the fact the bedrooms are on the lower floor keeping them cooler. The grounds are lovely and there is an excellent pool, well appointed with good sunbeds and umbrellas. The pool maintenance does take about half an hour each day, but the vacuum is an entertainment in itself to watch!
The property would work very well for two families as there are two wings, each with two bedrooms.
A very good holiday.
Beautiful stone home at the foot of Saint-Victorie - just minutes from Aix-en-Provence.
Nadine and Francois were very welcoming - taking the time to give us a very detailed overview of the house's operations. The kitchen is well equipped. It is a large house that easily accommodates two families. The grounds are large and beautiful - the kids played many games of kick the can and hide and seek while there. The pool is refreshing and relatively close to the house given the size of the house. The pool maintenance isn't hard but do plan to allocate 30 min or so a day for it. Given its proximity to Sainte-Victorie going for hikes is easy - and there are a range of hikes for all levels of ability. We also saw a few people mountain biking on trails there too. It's close enough to pop into Aix frequently as we did to visit the markets and old town, and day trips to Arles and the Lavendar fields. It's also close to Marseille for beach visits (recommend St.Croix!). In the nearby village of Palette there are wonderful food shops for daily provisions (bakeries, butcher, fruit and vegetable stands etc). We were very happy with our decision to rent this house and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to large families or groups. We would happily rent it again! 5 Stars.
I would agree with the previous 5 * reviews! This is an exceptional place - great for large meals shared round big tables. Very peaceful. Plenty of space to read quietly on one of the several terraces. Fantastic super-clean swimming pool. The village is very pretty & has a nice bar. This is a truly amazing place if you like mountainous road biking - I recommend doing the circuit of Mt Ste Victoire anticlockwise & clockwise (also try to include the D56C climb). Local wines are good & you can taste them eg on D17 up from Puyloubier. There's lots of walking & signposted routes from the house (eg up to the barrage). Lovely countryside - you see what Cézanne painted. Aix is great - museums, street events in summer, markets etc. The building is interesting: architect-designed - an architecture student in our party loved the sitting room! To get to the place just drive up the turn-off by the Moulin de Cézanne for about 150m and on the right are metal gates with the house number & name. The owner is very helpful and answers emails promptly. Our party thought it the best place we have stayed in yet (and we have done this every summer for years!).
We enjoyed sharing with renters the places we love! So, when you arrive, we spend time with you to explain how every things work in the house. We do our best to make them feel at home. We try, as much as possible, to make your stay in Aix area an unforgetable one, while explaining you how to enjoy our Provence!
Wonderful house in exceptional surrounding
The house is original, spacious and extremely comfortable. It is very well equipped. The garden is gorgeous, the swimming pool just perfect.
We stayed there for 2 weeks and really enjoyed it. It's well located for walks in the Sainte Victoire mountain or for good restaurants in Aix (10 min by car).
We stayed in this house in the summer of 2010 for 2 1/2 weeks. We were basically 2 families with occasional guests that brought the number up to 12 at one point (we asked the owner to provide extra mattresses for that occasion). Everybody thought the house was wonderful.
This is quite an ideallic "mas provencal". Beautiful house on the hills of Mount Ste Victoire, tucked in age old pine woods on a substantial piece of land. The views from the terrace (where we had all our meals), and pretty much from everywhere in the house including the pool are splendid. The landscaping is also quite beautiful. The house is very well appointed.
The location is quite convenient: 10 min drive to the center of Aix through a picturesque "scenic" route; the best baguettes and french pastries we've had in a long while are 5 min away at La Palette. At one point we were buying 6 baguettes/ day!
Le Tholonet is a picturesque little village, and Aix is a wonderful city to stroll around.
When you arrive you may be a little overwhelmed by the owner's review of all the things to do and pay attention to around the house: the fact is that she takes great care of her house and is actually very service oriented. She and her husband were always available for any questions or needs that we had. A practical advice: we asked the owner for some basic shopping prior to our arrival; it helps in giving us time to relax. Make sure to include soaps/ shampoos in the shopping list as those aren't provided.
We highly recommend this property.
Aix en Provence is an old Provençal town where you can walk under the shadow of trees, along the streets with XVIIth and XVIIIth century houses. It is well known for its music Festival and for its famous scenarios which were immortalised by Cezanne's paintings. If you like swimming in the sea, our French Riviera is between 30 minutes (Cassis Callanques) and two hours driving (La Côte d'Azur). If you like visiting towns and villages: in a short drive be enchanted by Avignon, Arles, Nimes and Le Luberon villages.
