Farmhouse in Traditional Spain, near Gandia and Oliva - Village Location, 15 Minutes from a Range of Beaches

This is a large traditional Spanish farmhouse with a modern interior, located on the edge of the village of Rotova. It enjoys great views over Rotova, the orange groves and the valley that leads down to the cosmopolitan town of Gandia. The front door leads onto a characterful courtyard which borders the cassita, probably one of the oldest stone buildings in the area. The courtyard has a large barbeque and is where you will enjoy your alfresco dining. You can also gate the courtyard off if you desire a secure area to keep young children away from the pool at any time. The courtyard opens onto the mature garden with orange, lemon, olive and palm trees surrounding your own private pool. Off street parking is available for four cars. Downstairs the modern interior houses the lounge/diner, kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. Upstairs has a further three bedrooms and two bathrooms. There is British satellite TV, Spanish TV and WiFi broadband internet. Our location offers you a taste of the real Spain but without being isolated. You can easily have a fantastic holiday without leaving Rotova and the local bus can take you into Gandia where you can catch fast trains onto Valencia, Barcelona or Madrid. But a hire car undoubtedly opens up further options such as the more secluded beaches, quaint villages and, of course, Benidorm! Very few locals speak English but they are all very friendly and willing to help. And not being in a Brits Abroad location has many advantages, not least the cheap prices in the bars! There are so many magnificent beaches all down this stretch of coast offering you a selection from secluded to family orientated with bars and lots to do. You can also hire every type of watersport equipment.

About Colin Craig

My wife Karen and I used to run an outside catering company and a canal-side pub in England but now we enjoy a more chilled out life mainly in Spain. We've been married for over 25 years. We always worked seven days a week from spring to autumn and so have always dreamt of having a place abroad to escape to now and again where we can recharge the batteries. We were lucky enough to fight off fierce competition to buy this Spanish finca in 2009 which we believe offers an idyllic holiday location for everyone. Rest assured that we will do everything we can to make your holiday as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

Why Colin Craig chose Valencia

This area, although not really discovered by mass tourism, is very popular with the Spanish as a holiday location and has very many attributes. First of all it is mid-way between Valencia and Alicante airports (just over an hours drive to each) making it easily accessible with cheap flights. Then you are nestled among orange groves with a ten minute drive to amenities of Gandia or Oliva and a 15 minute drive to stunning beaches. If you desire some madness then Benidorm is a 45 minute drive, and for clubbers, the short ferry to Ibiza is only a 30 minute drive away. The region is unspoilt Spain; food and drink prices are refreshingly low, and the finca is on the edge of a lovely village with all your essentials just a five minute stroll down the lane.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The finca (farmhouse) is on the edge of the village of Rotova in the middle of the orange groves. A stroll into the village with give you three bakers, a butcher, three mini supermarkets, a chemist,a florist, lots of hairdressers, a bank with cash machine, two bars/cafes, takeaway wood-fired pizza house and a tourist information. The finca has an established garden with many orange, lemon, olive and palm trees surrounding the private pool. There is parking for four cars but really you can find all you need on the doorstep. Within a 15 minute drive you can find stunning beaches, a whole range of restaurants and quaint old towns to explore. We can offer you a meet & greet service at any time of the day or night to settle you in, welcome packs of food and assistance is always on call.

Notes on accommodation: To keep our standards where you would expect them, we are refurbishing the kitchen and the bedrooms for the 2017 season. Our aim is to give this traditional farmhouse a fresh, modern and comfortable interior. While all the rooms have large ceiling fans and some rooms benefit from air conditioning, there are also numerous floor fans available for you to use. The finca is not centrally heated but has a selection of gas fires and electric heaters in the unlikely event that you feel chilly. Outside: The courtyard between the finca and the old casita has a teak extendable table, large parasol and 10 chairs. The main garden houses the 8m by 4m kidney shaped pool which has a generous sized tiled patio around it. There are many comfy sun loungers. There are also benches and table and chair sets nestled under the trees for those seeking a little shade. All outside furniture is new or nearly new. The garden has many architectural lights to illuminate the steps and characterful old trees. Towels and linen are included. The pool and garden are attended to once or twice a week. Meet and greet can also be included to help you locate the property easily and to settle you in. Rest assured that we will do whatever we can to make your holiday as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. Other: The finca has a self contained single floor extension and a separate casita (old stone building). These are not rented out giving you sole occupancy of the large garden and pool.

Beautiful,clean,large finca with helpful owners!!

We've been back from finca Craig for a week now and miss it already! It is a large,clean and we'll presented farmhouse set in a lovely little village. The pool was the perfect size and there was all the facilities we needed, dishwasher, washing machine etc. We stayed for a week enjoying trips out to Benidorm and Gandia, in between relaxing around the large outdoor area at the finca. The owners were incredibly helpful in both booking our trip and in the information at the finca.....much appreciated Colin and Karen,thank you! Bob the pool man was also friendly and helpful......We can't wait to return next year with more family!!

Fabulous Farmhouse, pool and views

Just got back from am amazing stay at Finca Craig. Wonderful accommodation and service from Colin and Bob. It felt like home and we loved every second. Lots of amazing places to visit with our favourite being Denia, Javea and Aqualandia. We have made fabulous memories and wish we were back there making some more!

Beautiful Farmhouse with fantastic outdoor area.

We have just returned from this fantastic farmhouse and we (7 adults) had a fabulous holiday. The accommodation is very large, clean and well equipped.

The outside area is fantastic, we ate outdoors all the time and used the bar-b que.

The pool and surroundings really made the holiday, you will not be disappointed!

The local village is very Spanish and everyone was friendly, especially in the local bar, where the food was superb. A car meant we could travel to more remote villages and to the coast. We had a day sea kayaking from Denia which was fantastic. Valencia was a wonderful city to visit.

Bob was very helpful and gave us some good tips. All in all we would highly recommend Finca Craig and would love to return one day ourselves.

A charming oasis in lovely Spanish town

First things first - the pictures in the advert don't do this lovely property the justice it deserves. The garden area (where we spent the majority of the time) is just a beautifully arranged and well kept oasis. Fig tress, lemon, orange, lime, etc ... with a sprinkling of cacti all add to the exotic and relaxed feel to the place.

From start to finish this was a perfect transaction. Colin was very prompt and helpful with all communications, instructions were clear and precise, payment was simple, and once there Bob was very obliging and gave great advice.

We had five adults and 6 kids for the majority of our two week stay, and there was plenty of room. The house is a good size, well apportioned and very comfortable. It has bathrooms, although due to the water pressure and boiler only one hot shower works at any one time. This wasn't an issue for us as we were all having cold showers due to the heat!

The village is nice and close and was an enjoyable stroll every morning for our fresh croissants and ensaimadas. It has a couple of well stacked mini-markets, bars, butcher, veg shop and two bakeries.

As mentioned by others, a car is advisable for getting to other towns and doing larger shopping - Gandia, Oliva, Denia etc. There is plenty of parking space. We had 3 cars easily fitting.

TV and DVD player were great, and WiFi (which was fast) was a godsend for the younger generation when things got a bit hot outside.

All in all I couldn't fault the holiday, and it was a pleasure staying at Finca Craig.

Finca Craig

We stayed in this finca for a week in August of this year. There were 7 adults and two young children and the accommodation could not have suited us better. The house is spacious with 5 large double bedrooms on two floors, 3 separate bathrooms, a large lounge and dining area and good kitchen. All the facilities were very good - great TV and media system for the children when it got too hot outside and the dishwasher and washing machine were really handy and efficient.

The best part of this finca, however, was the outside space. Lovely gardens and fruit trees around the poolside with lots of different areas for those who want to sunbathe and those who want more shade. The pool itself was great for the children and a lockable gate kept them away from it when needed. The barbecue and outside dining area were also excellent and we happily spent most of our evenings there.

The local village is easily in walking distance and there are little shops, bars and restaurants nearby. You would need a car as the finca is some way from either airport and the larger towns such as Oliva and Gandia, where the supermarkets are, are about 15-20 minutes drive away.

Bob, the contact in Spain, was really helpful and gave us great advice about places of interest to visit. The finca is a great central base for a range of different excursions - caves, beaches, mountain trails, city excursions etc.

Overall, I thoroughly recommend Finca Craig. The property was much larger and better equipped than I expected. It was clean and very well-maintained. The owners and contact definitely provided a friendly, courteous and efficient service and I would definitely book this property again

Very nice Finca

The finca CRAIG is a very nice renovated old Spanish house. We have spent a wonderful week with our three young children. The garden and the swimming pool are excellent to relax. The house is fully equipped. You can find bakery, butcher or small supermarket within 5 minutes walk in the village.

Barbecue, beach, sun, swimming pool, wonderful holiday.

Special interest holidays:

Our neighbour at Rotova is a renowned horse rider and trainer, specialising in Spanish dressage. Along with his wife, he can offer rider training for any level of experience and specialises in teaching children to ride for the first time. So if you love horses, some tuition in his idyllic stables and surrounding countryside may be just for you. This is a unique opportunity that is exclusive to residents of our finca. They both speak English.

The area has many well signposted walks of varying distances taking you through very picturesque scenery. It is also a very popular mountain biking area.


It is only a 15 minute drive to the impressive Blue Flag beaches with their golden sand gently incline into the sea. They stretch along the shoreline for some thirteen kilometres and have an impressive range of medical stations, lifeguards and, in the summer, beach cafés.

Apart from the more widely recognised water sports, also available in Gandia is kite surfing, paddle surfing, wake surfing, canoeing and sailing instruction.


We are well placed between two major airports (Alicante – 65 miles to the south, and Valencia – 40 miles to the north).

Excellent roads connect Gandia to the north and south of Spain via the A7 motorway and a very efficient and cheap train service is available from Gandia to Valencia, making train connections to Valencia airport a viable option. A local bus service can transfer you from Gandia to Rotova. However car hire is reasonable but not essential.


The centre of Rotova is just a 5 minute stroll down the lane giving you bakers, a butcher, three mini supermarkets, bank with cash machine, three bars/restaurants and a tourist information. Gandia with all its cosmopolitan bars, restaurants and shops, as well as major facilities including a very large large Carrefour, is a 10 minutes drive. Oliva with its fantastic old town is around 15 minutes drive. There are many quaint villages and excellent restaurants close by.

Further Details:

This area has a long tradition of fiestas within a vibrant culture that remains undiluted by the devastating effects of mass tourism elsewhere. A strong community spirit is apparent within a tolerant, good humoured and kindly local population whose children still play freely and safely in the roads and squares with crime and aggression low. The traditional siesta remains with shops and offices religiously closing between 2pm to 4pm irrespective of the time of the year. Most shops also close on a Sunday.Valencia city is, of course, internationally renowned for its sporting, cultural and commercial prowess. A wonderful, historic city with fabulous shopping and breathtaking architecture. Only 45 minutes drive from Gandia it is accessed with great ease. For some real nightlife or some of Europe's best theme parks, Benidorm is just 45 minutes drive and the ferry to Ibiza from Denia is a short 25 minute drive. This is the real, relaxed Spain and so very few locals speak English so be prepared to have fun in practicing your Spanish!
