Millwheel Cottage is a 2 bedroom apartment in a converted mill block. It has a private patio and garden. Free wifi throughout. The 28 acre private estate has an outdoor heated pool (summer), indoor heated pool (all year), small gym, walled garden with play area, fishing lake, tennis court, games room, table tennis, pool table and much woodland to explore safely. It is ideal for adults (2) or a family with children. Bigbury beach and the South Hams coastline is nearby and Dartmoor is just 4 miles, making it ideal for walking, beaching or relaxing. Near Salcombe, Kingsbridge and Dartmouth.
We used to live in Devon but are now beavering away in Surrey. We love to stay at Millwheel ourselves for getaways in the winter months and love the area. Hopefully we will go back one day - it's our favourite part of the UK.
Lesley Thomas purchased this apartment in 2006
Millwheel is set in the South Hams which is a delightful part of South Devon twixt coast and moor. The fast A38 can whizz you there speedily, but once there it's a real getaway.
The South Hams can be enjoyed all year round. There is much to choose from: whether its a bracing moorland walk you are after with a cream tea, or a paddle at the seaside followed by sampling of local food and wine.
"We had a wonderful couple of days at Millwheel cottage and very much enjoyed the grounds too - including the playpark and pool/darts room. The cottage is cosy and has everything you need for a restful stay. A real bonus for us was the provision of toys in the cottage for our two young children. I would definitely recommend Millwheel Cottage." (Victoria)
"We had a lovely time and have already recommended the cottages to two other families. We had a great time and will certainly be back again. The indoor pool was great and we used it twice every day, the cottages were extremely well equipped and we really felt at home. The pub was just a few minutes away and had free wi-fi and morning coffee!" (Paul)
"The cottage is extremely comfortable, very clean and well equipped. We were made to feel welcome by the owner from first enquiry until the end of our stay with everything relating to our stay being handled very efficiently and quickly. The estate is pretty and well located." (J)
Absolutely perfect little cottage on a lovely estate. The cottage had everything you could ever need and was clean and comfortable. Highly recommended, we hope to return at some point. Also Lesley was so helpful. Thanks for a lovely break.
We are a young family with a small pooch had a great time, would recommend this location.
Thank you for a lovely holiday. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped especially if you have a baby or toddler. The facilities at the site are brilliant - we swam every day and our 8 year old loved being able to explore the grounds and make new friends with other children holidaying at the site. We would definitely recommend the cottage and general area - stunning local beaches and Dartmoor in easy reach.
We stayed at Millwheel cottage for a week in May half term and had a wonderful stay in Devon. We chose Millwheel cottage for it's location - only 20 - 30 mins drive to various beaches and attractions. (Although not far by the mile, the country lanes meant every journey takes twice as long!) The cottage and amenities were as described. We liked that the cottage was self catering and had an indoor and outdoor pool as well as a games room and outside play area for kids. We made full use of the indoor pool - however the outdoor pool was honestly too cold for us to enjoy for more than 5 mins! (Apparently one of the heaters was broken). The cottage itself was the downstairs only of a small cottage and had one large kitchen/diner/lounge area, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. It was perfectly adequate and clean. Linens and towels as well as cleaning products were provided so after doing your own food shop, you're all set. The barbeque in the garden was a useful addition as we were able to make use of it a lot as the weather was so good. The garden isn't south facing though so you don't get the sun in the late afternoon/evening - but luckily it was still warm enough to sit outside for a while into the evening. The site has 20 privately owned rental cottages but although it was busy, it didn't feel crowded or noisy. We felt very safe and would happily go back for future breaks in Devon. Lesley was helpful, informative and efficient with passing out detailed instructions, returning the deposit etc. She even left out some delicious home made scones and jam for our arrival - yum!
We had a fantastic holiday and the place was just lovely. The owners were very accommodating leading up to the holiday, answering any questions we had quickly. The place itself had everything for a young family - playground, grounds to explore, swimming pool and even a tub of toys and games. It was in a really nice area to explore - close to beaches, towns with restaurants and cafes, and easily enough you can be at the Dartmoor National Park. We had a lovely long weekend!
Lovely property containing everything we needed, located within a perfect country estate. Perfect for access to all south Devon beaches and nearby market towns. May all future tennants enjoy it as much as we did!!
Bigbury beach/Burgh Island are 6 miles away by car. Ideal for paddling, and rock pooling, it's also popular with kite-surfers.
Take the unique tall tractor over to the island or walk it at low tide across the causeway. Hope Cove is 12 miles away with pub, parking - a good spot to take a coastal walk from. Thurlestone is 10 miles - a National Trust beach. Salcombe is 13.7 miles - beaches, sailing and a popular town.
Dartmouth 13 miles boat hire.
Exeter airport is 40 miles away. The Roskoff/Plymouth ferry is 30 mins drive away.
Modbury 3 miles. A Georgian town with local shops and pubs. Kingsbridge 7 miles. A pretty town at the estuary head with shops and markets throughout the week. Totnes 13 miles. Excellent local shopping and cafes for all. Salcombe 13 miles with beaches, shops and sailing tuition. Dartmouth 13 miles. Take a boat trip or hire your own.
You can walk in just a few minutes to the local pub, which has won awards for its food and has free wifi. The garage on the corner has a well stocked shop with a good supply of food and wine. Also by the garage is a fruit and vegetable stall run by nearby neighbours - good veg with the lowest food miles to be had!
