The Barn is attached and part of a now non working farm called Higher Boden which comprises of a Grade 11 listed farmhouse, and outbuildings which have been converted into other dwellings. It is located on the Lizard peninsula 2 miles from the Helford River and sea, it is an ideal place for those who just want to get away from it all and also those with active families. The old stone barn has been sensitively converted to accommodate up to 10 people, it is full of simple rustic character and charm. There are plenty of beautiful walks both coastal and inland with beaches very close at hand. The stable block can provide extra space for the kids and has a full size Table Tennis table. We provide Internet Access

I live with my husband and 4 children in the U.K. I am a GP and my husband has a company which runs adventure challenges for charities. We have a very busy lifestyle both working and lots of kids, but this place is so relaxing and safe for children with loads of things around for them to do ranging from just being wild at the farm, to exploring creeks, or more structured days out such as the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek or visiting St Ives. The Minnack Theatre, or the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth.
Owner purchased this Cottage in 2009
Why Owner chose Saint Anthony-in-Meneage
We were looking to buy a place with sea views but fell in love with the charm and tranquility of The Barn at Higher Boden, it is like going back in time to a piece of English countryside which has mainly disappeared .It is also very close to Gillan creek, only one mile, and only 2 miles from the more well known Helford River. We felt that you could get the best of all world's here, not only are you close to some spectacular rugged Cornish beaches eg Kynance Cove, Mullion, Church Cove, but you also have the lushness of the South side of Cornwall with some beautiful protected creeks. The Barn has been sensitively converted to try and maintain the character of the building and is part of a farm no longer working which is mentioned in the Domesday Book.
What makes this Cottage unique
The main benefits at the house itself is the tranquility it is a great safe place to just let children run wild, there is a large garden and a stable block with Table Tennis and laundry. St Anthony a charming coastal hamlet a mile away provides sailing lessons and canoe hire in which you can explore the creeks. Helford has a great pub,and you can also catch a ferry across the river to Helford Passage which has an excellent pub and is a short walk to Trebar Gardens.

Stunning barn in a great location
Would recommend this property to any family or group of friends. It is in a great location and the house and its contents are just perfect. Sarah the owner was a gem answered every question I had promptly . As two families of four (teenagers) it was a perfect week .
Many thanks I am so glad you had a good time and enjoyed The Barn
Fantastic stay in beautiful cottage, amazing walks
Our family stayed over the New Year period & we all had the most wonderful time. With 3 teenagers slightly apprehensive at keeping them occupied, we need not have worried. The surrounding countryside was so peaceful and picturesque with great walks on the doorstep. The cottage itself was very clean & well-maintained and any query was quickly answered by the owner. Would recommend walk to The Shipwrights pub in Helford for moules-frites and return for the cosiest night-in by the log fire. The cottage was very well-equipped inside and had a great outdoor area for table tennis. We will definitely be returning in the summer.
Cottage as such was lovely!
Unfortunately post code does not show the location- it was very difficult to find, especially during the night!
Cottage was freezing cold - no radiators in the kitchen, corridor or reception rooms and some bedrooms! Heating was set up as -off during the night ! Aga was broken - the landlord was not helpful at all!
The beds were without bedding!
Only 2 could have shower at any one time!!!
It was very disappointing!
All above could be easily sorted but the land lady didn’t really care!!!
If possible, find somewhere else!!!!
I must say I find the above comments surprising after all the communication I had with the guests over this weekend stay .I send very clear instructions of how to get to the house as it is remote and can be difficult to find in the dark.
Unfortunately in the high winds the Aga had blown out and I was unable to get the engineer to attend at the weekend . There is central heating and all the girls had to do was turn the knobs on the radiators as I explained a couple of times . The heating is set to turn off at night , but it is not locked and can easy be put on /altered if required. We provide plenty of logs for both fires but I got the impression they were not sure how to manage them .The beds were all made up for the people staying and I explained where they could get more bedding if required . Despite all of this I gave them £100 off as the Aga was out. Our caretaker went and spent several hours at the house to see if he could help but the guests were out, therefore he couldn't get in, and said he had had no calls .
There are only two bathrooms as clearly stated so obviously only two people can shower at any one time .
I hope people can read all the excellent reviews we have had in the past and make there own minds up .This is a rustic and beautifully remote location with plenty of great things to do nearby, however this might not be to everyones taste, I am deeply sorry that they did not enjoy their stay.
Lovely cottage, would 100% recommend!
A lovely cottage in a lovely part of the world. It was really homely and we'll equipped. Plenty of space for everyone to relax. The owner was very helpful and provided information of what to see and do in the local area. Would recommend. Thank you very much, couldn't ask for more.
Higher Boden Barn
We have had a great holiday at Higher Boden Barn. It is a very relaxed setting, ideal for our August holiday with different members of our family coming and going over a three-week period. The house is ideally located to discover the charms of the Helford river as well as the great beaches and coastal walks around the Lizard Peninsula.
A lovely old farm in an idyllic position
Jane was amazingly flexible to help us attend a family wedding and couldn't have been more helpful in finding a dog sitter for us. The house was warm and comfortable and ideal for grandparents with children and grandchildren. It reminded us of staying in old Breton farms in the past - lots of barns and gardens to enjoy. It's well placed for the beaches, the Helford estuary with gardens and sailing and some great pubs. A great place to relax.
