About Christine Thornton

Christine and Mike Thornton are semi-retired; we rent out holiday cottages in the most beautiful parts of the UK - Scotland, The Lake District and Cornwall. We always try to do our very best to make sure that our guests have a memorable, wonderful holiday and always hope that they will visit again! Christine enjoys (not-so) gentle tennis, Mike drives rally cars badly! We have been renting holiday cottages for many years and from feedback from our guests, we have the experience to make sure that your holiday is trouble free and relaxing. So much so that over 30% of our bookings are from previous guests.

Why Christine Thornton chose Perthshire

We hadn't really spent much time in Scotland until about 2002, when we travelled around for 3 weeks. We fell in love with the countryside and would now rate it almost higher than our beloved Lake District! Every place we visited is beautiful in its own unique way - so we chose Perthshire simply because it is central to everywhere else. Being within a luxurious hotel complex just by Gleneagles means that come rain or shine, there is always a way of relaxing and enjoying the location.

What makes this cottage unique

Duchally Lodge is unique. It is within the grounds of Duchally Country House Hotel, one of Perthshire's most comfortable hotels, and enjoys all the Hotel's leisure and dining facilities. It is also the only Lodge within the Duchally Estate that is rented out privately. It offers sumptuous and cosy self-catering accommodation for 6 in 3 bedrooms (2 with en suites), plus outside terrace, luxuriously appointed kitchen and dining room. The Hotels offers a first class restaurant, traditional lounge bar with family entertainment in the evenings, a cafe, large swimming pool with steam room and gym. Duchally Lodge offers the perfect central location for golf, wildlife, walking or cultural holidays, convenient for Gleneagles and St Andrews golf courses, the Highlands, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

The lodge is very well equipped, clean and comfortable. The quality of the beds and bed linen is excellent and there is a welcome pack of every day essentials on arrival which was well received. I would highly recommend staying here as there is plenty to do in the neighbourhood and the scenery is beautiful.

Perfect for all the Family

  • 5 of 5

Along with my husband and two sons (6 & 3) we were lucky to have spent 5 nights in this fantastic lodge. For 2 of the 5 nights we were joined by my parents, and my brother and his wife. I had been concerned it may get a bit over-crowded for those 2 nights but not at all! Plenty of room! As well as being tastefully furnished, the lodge was equipped with everything you could possible need during your stay (and more). In addition to kitchen and dining "stuff", there were games for all ages, books and dvd's. The bread, milk, orange juice, eggs etc. in the lodge on arrival was a lovely touch too. The estate is beautifully maintained and so nice to walk around. We took a daily afternoon walk to the beer garden where the boys could happily play in the sunshine that we were lucky enough to have each day. The leisure centre being so close to the lodge was bonus with 2 young boys who wanted to swim from the moment they woke up each day! The small kid's pool was great for their age. In summary, the perfect place for a family get-together to suit all ages of the family.

A group of 8 of us went for a short 3 night stay in June. The estate itself is absolutely stunning and is surrounded by beautiful scenery. The lodge was more than large enough for all of us, was well equipped and decorated nicely. We were lucky in that the weather was lovely so we got to eat in the evening out on the decking area. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be recommending it to family and friends.

Just spent a lovely weekend in Duchally Lodge with family to celebrate my husbands retirement. Christine's lodge is beautiful, in wonderful surroundings, just perfect for a family get together. Christine provides great information and directions plus the house is stocked with lots of little extras to add to your comfort and enjoyment. Would definitely visit again.

Family Break

  • 5 of 5

This is my second time at Duchally Lodges but i will be back again and again....We took our extended family on a short break, they had never been before so we were apprehensive. They LOVED it and want to go back. The situation of the Lodge is in the best possible position in the whole estate, about 100 metres from the Leisure facilities which were just excellent too. A short walk to the main Hotel allowed us to treat ourself to dinner one night, but mainly, we relaxed and chilled out with the family in this fab 5* accomodation. Staff were on hand also for any questions we had while there. They couldnt have been any more attentive. In short, the lodge, and its home from home feel is wonderful and I can't wait to go back.

Stay at Duchally

  • 5 of 5

First time at Duchally with family. The lodge had everything you could wish, welcome pack, lots of cooking utensils, a home from home. Especially liked the selection of DVDs, a cupboard full of board games for all the family, and beautiful illustrated books on Scottish wildlife and information on the local area. Meal at the hotel was first class and staff were exceptionally friendly. Leisure centre was great. Will certainly return.

Car: necessary

The scenic west coast of Scotland is about 60 minutes drive away, and offers fantastic beaches, fishing villages where you can buy fresh fish; and the most amazing scenery.

Both Glasgow and Edinburgh airports are an easy 1 hour drive to Duchally Lodge. There are excellent train connections from London to all cities nearby, but a car is recommended.

Historic Perth with the famous Scone Palace and atmospheric Stirling with its imperious castle are close by, along with many quaint and old villages. Duchally lies on the famous Whisky Route which links large and small whisky distilleries. The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, home to Rob Roy, which includes beautiful Loch Achray and Loch Katrine, are only 30 miles away. Medieval St Andrews is easily accessible with nearby East Neuk fishing village noted for its wonderful fish restaurants

Further Details:

It is so easy to fall in love with this part of Scotland - which makes it difficult to leave! It has possibly the most scenically diverse area in Britain, and could take weeks to explore - without even venturing to the nearby Highlands and Ben Nevis.

But it is also so easily accessible from anywhere, and is not "remote". The area has good restaurants, food shops, local craft shops and an amazing Scottish Antiques Centre just nearby.

For sports lovers there is so much to do, including golf! There is water sports, world class car rallying in the Autumn, wonderful hiking country, activities for children and adults alike.
