Overview

About the property

4-bed 2-bath maisonette in Keswick offering modern and comfortable accommodation

Crandy Nook, built in 1891 of traditional lakeland stone, is a fabulous 4 bedroom maisonette converted to an exceptional standard in 2007. Centrally located in the popular market town of Keswick, the views of Skiddaw, Walla Crag, Castlehead Wood and over the rooftops towards Bassenthwaite, Skiddaw and Whinlatter Forest, from the lounge and kitchen are simply stunning.

Crandy Nook is set over 3 floors above a coffee shop. On the top floor, with vaulted ceiling, the open plan lounge and kitchen diner is a cosy haven in which to relax and socialise. The contemporary kitchen is very well equipped with induction hob and granite work surfaces.

There are 2 bedrooms and 2 luxury bathrooms on each of the other 2 floors.

The accommodation is assessed Visit England 4*.

Keswick is an all year round popular destination on the shores of Derwentwater. This friendly town hosts the twice-weekly market that has recently won the coveted "Best Outdoor Market" in the Great British Market Awards.

There is something for everyone. Activities include a variety of water sports, wall climbing, paragliding and swimming. Go Ape and mountain biking are in nearby Whinlatter Forest. Keswick also offers two large public parks which offer games facilities in open, wooded and garden settings. Other facilities include a new sports hall, leisure pool, cinema, golf, cycle hire and fishing. Why not try the 400-seat Theatre on the Lake or a cruise on Derwentwater.

You are spoilt for choice for walking either by using Keswick as a base or taking day trips to Ullswater, Crummock Water and Buttermere or further afield, the South Lakes. Personal favourites are Scafell Like, the Borrowdale Valley, Latrigg and the walk around the shores of Derwentwater. Those more adventurous, will head for Sharp edge on Blencathra.

The holiday cost includes 2 parking permits for use in Keswick's 3 long-stay car parks.

We welcome one well behaved dog and can provide, for a small charge, a cot and high chair.

Changeover days are Friday for weekly or weekend breaks or Monday for weekday breaks.

About Anthony & Lorna

We live in the North East of England with our 2 teenage boys. I work full-time for a leisure company, my wife is a self-employed holistic therapist. Our spare time is spent enjoying the beauty of the Lake District and one day we hope to move there.

Anthony & Lorna purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Anthony & Lorna chose Keswick & North Lakes

We purchased Crandy Nook (the building is actually Grandy Nook but is affectionately known to us otherwise) in 2007 and chose the property for its location, the high quality conversion (it's a Victorian property) and the stunning views from the top floor. Keswick is popular all year round and has a certain aura. The property is in the centre of town, a few minutes walk from the Moot Hall, from where many of the local walks begin. There is a wealth of good pubs and restaurants nearby.

What makes this apartment unique

The views of Skiddaw and Whinlatter Forest across the Keswick rooftops from one window, Walla Crag and Castlehead from another, are simply stunning. Latrigg is visible from the main bedroom bay window. We love the walking especially the Borrowdale Valley (check out Castle Crag) and the west shore of Derwentwater (Cat Bells and the lower level walks either side) and cycling.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much. We had the greatest time in Keswick. Your apartment was such a pleasant treat, so clean that we felt very comfortable there. The weather was fantastic too. The children spent hours looking out the window and drawing. It was a magical week. My daughter is just about finished with the watercolor painting looking out the dining room window. I will make a copy of it and send to you. Thank you again. I hope some time in our lives we'll have the opportunity to return. - Mrs PL, USA

Just wanted to say we had a great time at Crandy Nook. - Mrs YB, Birmingham

Great apartment, tastefully decorated and furnished throughout, wonderful location, no complaints whatsoever, would definitely return. - Debbie, Liverpool

Great central location. Like home from home

  • 4 of 5

Well maintained flat over a number of floors with some lovely views.

Please do check drawers, belongings from previous people in a number of the drawers.

A few light bulbs not working and no spare ones to use.

Fantastic location and accommodation

  • 5 of 5

Such a lovely place to stay in the centre of Keswick. We were able to roll out of the apartment into the many bars and restaurants Keswick has to offer. The livingroom and kitchen area offer the most amazing views!

Fab location and really comfortable property

  • 4 of 5

We had a great long weekend and this property certainly played its part. Spread over 3 floors, there are a few stairs to contend with but otherwise the property was lovely. The views from the combined living/dining/kitchen room (top floor) are stunning. The property easily accommodated our group (6 adults and a dog), just a shame it has a strict 1 dog policy which meant we weren't able to take our two Westies with us. Will definitely consider using it again when we next visit Keswick.

fantastic accomodation

  • 5 of 5

Everything about our stay was fantastic. The apartment is ideally situated in the centre of town. The parking permits allowed us to park our cars free in the car park which was not too far away. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need. The beds were comfortable and the whole apartment was meticulously clean. The only gripe which is not much really is that the kitchen got really hot whilst cooking due to the windows in the ceiling and the convection hob was a bit of a pain, but little things really which did not spoil our fantastic stay at all. Anthony and Lorna were friendly and helpful and helped us enjoy our stay with all the useful information they provided before and during our stay. Thanks so much the Wood family

Perfect week in the Lake District

  • 5 of 5

Cranky Nook lived up to our expectations in every way, from the perfect location, to comfortable beds, luxury showers and a very well equipped kitchen. We walked for 6 days, used local shops to cook in the evening or went out to one of the many places to eat. The teenagers were able to escape and wander around because of the location. A perfect week. Thanks.
