A quiet and tranquil small stone farmhouse, set on a hill with outstanding views along a quiet farming valley. The property has 2 bedrooms, 2 shower rooms, kitchen, sitting room and study. The property sits on the edge of a hill overlooking part of the beautiful Valtiberina - favoured by artists and cyclists alike. The valley is protected by a conservation order, so fantastic wildlife can be seen as well as wild flowers.
The part of the Valtiberina (Tiber Valley) found in Tuscany consists of the portion of land between the regions of Romagna, Umbria and Marche. If you are planning to travel in and around Tuscany, our house gives you the opportunity to visit lovely towns and cities like Anghiari, Sansepolcro, Arezzo and Perugia.
We have owned the house for over 20 years, and love the area, the food, the people, and the stunning hilltop towns and villages nearby. It is a perfect base to explore Arezzo, Florence, Sienna, Perugia, and Lucca. It you just want to chill out, it's perfect too, as there are many beautiful unspoilt towns such as Anghiari , Citta di Castello and Sansepolcro nearby.

This property is tucked away in a very peaceful valley. All one can hear is the sound of tractors working in the fields in the distance. There are oak woods, and the area is a protected nature reserve. The walks are beautiful, so if you don't feel like getting in the car, there is still plenty to do.
Although the property is tucked away, it is still within easy distance to the local town of Monterchi. So if you have forgotten something at the supermarket it is only a 5 minute drive away.
I booked this house for two weeks over the summer holiday of 2014 largely because of the pictures on the internet of the view from the back garden. When we arrived, we quickly realised that however good the pictures were, in reality they were an understatement of the quite breath-taking surroundings in which this beautiful house stands. The house is lovely and impeccably maintained– lovely large kitchen with all the appliances we could have wanted (and very good wifi also). The garden is still I believe the characteristic of this house that is the most spectacular, and really has to be seen to be properly appreciated. With the weather being so warm, anyone who hires this house in the summer would spend a good part of the day outside. The local amenities are very good in the local town of Monterchi – a general shop that certainly sold everything we wanted/needed (with an first-rate butcher) and all the restaurants in the town that we tried were excellent without being expensive. Monterchi is walkable and is only about 5 minutes away from the property in a car. The biggest local town of Arrezo is also easy to get to by car and has everything that one would expect. This was a very easy holiday to book – the arrangements all being made in a very efficient and timely way. All in all, I would recommend this property to anyone – we had a fabulous time and look forward to going again if possible
A really lovely house, in a secluded rural position. The house was very well equipped, spacious and comfortable. It is well positioned and we were able to make day trips to Florence and Sienna easily. so much to see and do.
We wanted a slightly more peaceful location away from the tourist hub-bub of Tuscany that would also give us the chance to explore Umbria (this property is right on the border of Tuscany and Umbria, giving us the best of both worlds).
We were enamoured with the house from the moment we arrived. It's a beautifully restored property with all the amenities we would need (we are a middle aged couple travelling with a set of parents) - most of all, the incredible views across farmland and the valley to Sansepulcro from the terrace. We enjoyed this over every breakfast of fresh bread, cheese and ham from the local supermarket, which is only a few minutes drive away.
The house is immaculate in a homely way - furnished with beautiful antiques and local crafts and was soooo comfortable. We had the four poster bedroom whilst the inlaws had the twin room. No complaints except perhaps for the rowdy cockerel that awoke us early every morning! There are also two spotless bathrooms - the one upstairs had a fantastic power shower newly fitted. Every night we cooked food on the outside barbeque or on the substantial Smeg oven in the wonderfully rustic kitchen.
By day we explored extensively, particularly the fascinating medieval towns of Gubbio and Anghiari and we also took a trip to Assisi - amazing to see the Giotto Frescos. We were also revisited the typical Tuscan towns of Montepulciano and Cortona - which as expected, were teeming with tourists.
Monterchi itself is a delightful hilltop town and probably the prettiest in this region. We had a delicious birthday lunch for my husband at Senza Tempo - the most upmarket restaurant in the village. On our last night, were were lucky enough to catch the 'Polenta Fiesta' where we sampled polenta in its various guises. Interesting!
We would definitely recommend this property to anyone wanting a peaceful vacation yet with excellent connections to all the sights of Umbria and Tuscany (a hire car is a must!). The house has every comfort and the owners are a real delight to deal with and very helpful.
This is one of the best properties we have ever stayed at and we've been doing this for a long time! Spotless, very well kitted out and extremely well maintained, everything including the WiFi worked faultlessly. The descriptions in the advert simply don't do it justice, it really is a home from home, very comfortable yet without too much clutter. All the cooking implements, crockery etc were first class, literally it had everything we could have wanted including a superb SMEG gas/electric cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, huge fridge/freezer and lovely outside area to enjoy breakfast and dinner, whilst staring for miles down the valley towards distant Tuscan hills. The surrounding villages are lovely, quiet and not too touristy, with all the facilities that you could wish for and some super, inexpensive cafes and Trattorias. A lovely secluded area, easy to get to and well located for visits to all parts of Tuscany. Simply delightful and unreservedly recommended.
We arrived in the evening to find this wonderfully restored and immaculate old house awaiting us, beds made up, fridge on, everything you could possibly need easily found and the delightful terrace resounding with birdsong from the nearby wooded hills - even cuckoos! The week we spent was utterly restorative. It was easy to reach cities like Arezzo, San Sepulcro, Assisi, Perugia, Cortona and Gubbio and it was a pleasant walk to nearby Monterchi as well as the surrounding countryside. The ranges of hills and indeed mountains afford quite spectacular views in all directions. Everywhere beckons with superb restaurants, well-stocked and enticing shops, galleries, churches and monasteries and markets. The house itself was just beautiful, with well-chosen furniture and decor, plenty of books, tourist literature and maps to borrow, ample good quality cutlery and crockery, two super bathrooms, and easy to look after. It was lovely to eat breakfast on the terrace each morning with the rising sun gradually dispersing the morning mists from the valley and each evening we could bask in western sunlight too. A particular bonus was the birdsong, especially the nightingales in the trees and woods nearby, day and night, and we were lucky enough to be there in firefly season, with the woods at the bottom of the chalk land on the right full of their mesmerising, scintillating and pulsating lights - and the night sky is seriously dark, so perfect for star-gazing; no light pollution here. Both house and garden are well-tended, spacious and well-equipped - and there is even a swing! We would certainly recommend this holiday house to two couples or a small family, and you would be as bowled over by its magic as we were.
I stayed here for four nights in late August with three of my adult children. We had emailed the owner and spoken on the phone before we arrived and there was a welcome note and a bottle of Prosseco on the kitchen table to greet us!
The house s very comfortable , spotless and felt like home.
It was a joy to get up early each morning and write. The garden overlooks a rural valley with trees , sunflowers and tobacco plants. I could hear ducks geese hens and tractors as the countryside came to life. We visited many medieval hilltop villages and towns within a twenty mile radius. The old buildings , ciurches, cathedrals and Renaissance art make a huge impact. (The owner had left a folder with tips on where to go) Mostly we enjoyed catching up and having lunch outside. This was a lovely holiday in a beautiful place. I hope to come back again.
