Strawberry Barn is a new high spec barn conversion nestling in the beautiful South Hams, this is a great spot for couples to spend a romantic week away or for a small family to enjoy a self catering holiday in the countryside. Situated a mile from Slapton Village which has two super pubs plus a village shop. A little further on is the vast expanse of Slapton Sands, Slapton Ley Nature Reserve and the beachside village of Torcross.
I moved here 9 years ago with my husband and 4 kids and we love it! My children all surf and sail and we can't keep them off the beach's. My only regret is that we should have moved here sooner! We have a couple of ponies in the nearby field and if any kids want to have a little ride my children would be happy to let them!
Sueann Wilson purchased this barn in 2005
Having 3 very young children in London we felt we should move out to the country and found a house in Kent and had another baby! Kent was too far from the sea for me and we always seemed to be in the car heading to Devon to visit our friends at every given chance. We loved seeing the kids on the beaches and in the sea and all the walks around the coast line made them so happy they did not want to go home! So we moved here and have never looked back. Getting away from all the built up buildings, crowds and traffic was so refreshing and waking up to the birds singing and the kids running up across the fields has made me very happy.
Strawberry Barn is a lovely new build set behind our Farmhouse. We have made it feel like a home away from home. You have your own drive way to it and your own private garden and you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, yet close to the beaches, walks, cafe's, villages, Towns and many attractions that this area has to offer. Do please email if you only want a few days or a long weekend as if its free then come and stay! Plus I have teenagers that are experienced babysitters should you need one!
Fantastic Barn and location! The week went too quick with so much to do - Georgina, Jim & Kye from Nottinghamshire.
Thanks so much for a fantastic week in the gorgeous Strawberry Barn! We would love to book for next year - Ali, Jan, Dylan & Mya.
Grace said that she would marry me when I proposed here Thursday night! What a perfect spot to relax and celebrate. Will be taking lots of photo's in case I ever get the opportunity to renovate somewhere, its stunning - Tom and Grace - Birmingham.
We loved the Barn, stylish yet cosy and welcoming. Coast, walks and beaches. The deep peace here only broken by birdsong, we'll miss it - Chris and Brigit - Brighton.
My family and I (2 adults plus 2 children, aged 10 and 8) enjoyed a lovely week at Strawberry barn over May half term 2016. Though physically next to the main farmhouse, the layout, driveway and fenced in garden gives the barn a very secluded feel and the immediate environment is peaceful and tranquil.
The barn is wonderfully located, being within an easy drive of numerous beaches and the towns of Dartmouth and Salcombe. Dartmouth for crabbing, river & steam train excursions were a highlight as was the fabulous Bantham beach.
The barn garden is a good size and the swings were a bonus we hadn't realised would be there. Being fenced in, it's very safe for children as it's tricky for them to escape! We were lucky with the weather and so enjoyed BBQing on the Weber most evenings. There's plenty of space to kick a ball around or play some garden games.
The barn itself is appointed to a really high standard, with lots of lovely decorative touches, and I can't really fault anything about it. The upside down layout allows for a small elevated decking area outside the entrance, from where you can enjoy the view, a glass of wine and the peace and quiet (once the children are asleep!). The barn doesn't have a dishwasher but that was clear from the details on this website and wasn't an issue for us. It's not huge, the upstairs constituting one open plan area but was perfect for us for the week. The dining table in the kitchen part of the upstairs can comfortably accommodate 4. We didn't watch much TV so I can't really comment but there is a Sky box with free view channels. The wifi is OK but remember this is the Devon countryside so don't expect fibre optic broadband speeds.
Overall, I would recommend Strawberry Barn without a moments hesitation and suspect it is somewhere we will be visiting again in the future.
A very comfortable upside down barn conversion. Well equipped and tastefully decorated with a 'home from home' feel. The barn is set in its own grounds so you don't feel overlooked but owners onsite if you need help. Slapton village is a healthy walk away with its 2 pubs. Strawberry Barn is well placed to explore the South Hams area. would recommend this property and would stay again.
We all had one of the best weeks stay in this lovely barn. The accommodation is first class and all the little touches make it home from home. The secluded garden was ideal for our dog and the many beaches near by were perfect not just for him but our 2 children too. We ate at the Cricketers Inn Beesands, and the Seabreeze cafe Torcross, both very friendly. Driving through all the wonderful lanes and villages are a pleasure to see. I will definitely recommend to all my family & friends. Thank you Strawberry Barn!
We stayed for a week at the beginning of July, whilst feeling blessed with the weather we had, we also felt blessed for choosing this lovely barn. Everything had been thought of, the kitchen had every utensil & piece of equipment we needed and everything was extremely comfortable. We very much appreciated having the SKY TV too! Everything felt very clean and well cared for and we would highly recommend this place for a "get away" break.
Just enjoyed a great week in Strawberry Barn, The cottage itself is very well equipped, lovely and modern and very private. It was great to explore some of the surrounding areas and we particularly liked Totnes, Dartmouth and Salcome. Hope Cove is a must it was just beautiful and we had fantastic food at the Hope and Anchor pub. We also ate at The Tradesman's Arms at Stokley and it was also delicious the best meal of the holiday. Another great pub for food was The Tower in Slapton. We had a fabulous time walking on the beaches and the cost paths with the dog and enjoying the stunning scenery. The café at Torcross was a great halfway point for refuelling! We found that all of the areas & pubs we visited were very dog friendly, a real positive for any dog owners! We will defiantly be back to explore some more.
My children and I had a marvelous week at Strawberry Barn. It was extremely well designed (to a very high specification), laid out and provided for and allowed us to have a well deserved rest together. Sueann was very welcoming and helpful and there are lots of helpful written information in the Barn for the unprepared. We were out everyday but it was always great to go back to the warmth of the Barn.
