About the property

Farbrook Farm

Farbrook is a beautiful 18th century farm nestling in a quiet valley in the south west corner of the Peak District National Park. Our long driveway leads to a bridleway on the famous Three Shires Head network providing some of the most spectacular walking and riding in the country. Farbrook is a working farm where we breed excellent quality alpacas for the fine fibre industry, we're surrounded by fields of these beautiful and inquisitive creatures and you're welcome to walk among them. Also on-farm are sheep, chickens, ducks, geese, and sometimes pigs: a paradise for city children.

You can see more of our farm and both cottages at www.farbrookcottages.com.

About Gemma Toia

Hi, I'm Gemma. Simon and I have been living in this gorgeous part of the Peak District since 2000. Farbrook is a working farm where we breed excellent quality alpacas for the fine fibre industry. We decided to convert our loveliest barn to self-catering accommodation and Overbrook Barn is the result.

Overbrook sleeps eight in four double rooms, it's very comfortable, cosy, and has modern equipment throughout. We're in the centre of a network of footpaths and bridleways that offer some of the best walking and riding you'll find in the country. There's a huge amount to do locally, along with great eating and drinking.

The Farmhouse sleeps 12 in 6 double bedrooms and is our own home. We spend the summer with my parents in Italy so we'd love to have you to stay at The Farmhouse while we're away.

I do hope you'd like to come and share our life on the farm, if there's anything you'd like to know do get in touch with me.

Why Gemma Toia chose England

Farbrook Farm is at the centre of the country's best known walking, riding and cycling trails, the local pub is minutes away.

While many people visit us just to enjoy life on the farm there's also an enormous amount to do locally. Countryside enjoyment starts with some of the best walking and cycling in the country on a network of bridleways and footpaths which start on the doorstep. There's a trekking centre in the village so you can enjoy the same on four legs.

Why not get involved in some local country life: watch milking, visit farm shops and the mushroom farm, or try your hand at some alpaca husbandry? Or you could sign up for one of the Peak District's specialist taster courses in dry stone walling, eco-building with timber and straw, or stonemasonry.

Some of England's best loved country houses are on the doorstep. A visit to Chatsworth House and gardens, the water staircase, maze, and a picnic by the river, finishing off in the spectacular adventure playground if you've got children with you, makes for a truly glorious day out.

For more structured entertainment Buxton Opera House has great family productions as well as higher-brow opera and ballet, the local 'classic' cinema screens exclusively new releases, and Alton Towers is a short drive away. The various caves in Buxton and the Hope valley provide a fascinating insight into these natural and man-made caverns and are always popular with the children.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The Farmhouse and Overbrook Barn date back to the eighteenth century. Constructed of beautiful traditional pink gritstone it's reached by its own drive and there's plenty of parking immediately outside the door.

Recently renovated, the style is clean, modern and cosy rather than rustic. Both properties have a log burner, Sky TV, BluRay DVD, and a music system.

All bedrooms have super-king double beds (which can be made up as twins if you prefer) with natural fibre duvets, cotton sheets and covers. All bed linen and towels are provided.

Oil-fired central heating keeps you deliciously warm 24 hours a day, there's a phone which you're welcome to use, and free wireless broadband internet throughout.

Each property has a gated and lit lawned garden which is secure for small children, and a barbeque area with seating for all. Well behaved pets are welcome and there's plenty of room for off-the-lead walking on the farm. There's bags of room to smoke in the open air but please don't smoke inside.

Further Details:

While many people visit us just to enjoy life on the farm there is also an enormous amount to do locally. Countryside enjoyment starts with some of the best walking and cycling in the country on a network of bridleways and footpaths which start on the doorstep. There's a trekking centre in Flash so you can enjoy the same on four legs. The less experienced can sign up to a week's course of riding lessons at the local school. Get involved in local farm life: watch milking, visit farm shops and the mushroom farm, or try your hand at some alpaca husbandry. This is great badger country: in the evening there's nothing so exciting as watching the dusk exodus of tens of badgers off on their nocturnal rounds. We're surrounded by some of England's most beautiful and exciting country houses. Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Little Moreton Hall, Biddulph Grange, Gawesworth Hall, Capesthorne Hall, Tatton Park, and Lyme Park are all within 20 to 40 minutes drive. Many have spectacular gardens and children's playgrounds. Chatsworth has an outstanding adventure playground. Buxton Opera House has a 7-day programme of family entertainment as well as some opera. Clonter Opera (the Glyndebourne of the north) is about 30 minutes drive and they will cater for your interval dining if you don't want to take your own picnic. Macclesfield has a great 'classic' cinema. Alton Towers (rides and theme park) is 30 minutes away.

Macclesfield was the centre of silk production in the 18th century. Many of the mill buildings are still standing and there are several museums covering this great part of our history. Buxton (10 minutes drive) is a spa town and was built by the Romans, there is lots to see here including some fine Georgian architecture. It's our nearest town and probably has all you'll need. Good restaurants including Italian, Indian, Chinese, Pizza Express, and an excellent Thai. Good parks and playgrounds. There are Waitrose, Morrisons, and Aldi, supermarkets.
