Why Luisa Riddiford chose Pisa

Luisa taught English in a school near Pisa in 1986 and fell in love with the area. We returned, many times. We made lifelong friends and began to feel that this could be a new home and a new life. After 12 years of living and working in London, we decided to take the plunge, change direction and embrace the challenge of creating a new life. We wanted to be closer to nature, direct our own affairs and to live in a beautiful place with a decent climate. We found La Lucertola as a semi ruin, completely overgrown and crying out for some love and attention. We first fell in love with the incredible view and the prospect of living in the country but close to Pisa and the sea. The view is unique, breathtaking and inspiring. We can see The Leaning Tower, the coast & the islands of Capraia & Corsica.

What makes this house unique

The view - irreplaceable and unique.

The convenience of a country location with the amenities of Pisa and Lucca close to hand.

We overlook olive grove, forest, field and village. Overhead are birds of prey and the night sounds of owls. This place gives us inspiration and the energy to live a good and authentic life. We are happy to share this beauty and joy with our guests who over 14 years of operation wholeheartedly testify to the magic of this very special location. The houses are spacious, comfortable and well proportioned. One would happily live in them all year round - they are much more than a simple rental property - they are proper houses with a true sense of home.

Proximity to villages, hills, beaches & rivers.

Quick access to airport, motorways, bus and rail servic

Tranquility in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

A warm welcome from Colin and Luisa on our arrival (and a lovely bottle of chilled prosecco) The property was clean and well equipped and we had freedom to pick wonderful fresh herbs and produce from the gardens (the fresh lemons were divine) We had a fun evening making and cooking our own Pizzas in the pizza oven, a huge supply of olive wood was free to use for this and BBQ/Log burner in the lounge. The views from the terrace and pool area were wonderful. The only downside was the drive up and down the narrow, zig zag track to access the accommodation, particularly tricky in the dark. Colin and Luisa were really helpful and friendly and provided us with useful information about the area. All in all a wonderful holiday.

fantastic

  • 5 of 5

We had a brilliant road trip holiday this year and drove the 2500 miles from UK to Pisa and back! The property is brilliant - very nicely decorated and very comfortable. The pizza oven was great fun and well worth the time and effort - 'Jamie's Italy' recipe book came in very handy! The pool is a welcome relief when the sun gets too hot and the split level pool area gives you the privacy needed even though it is shared with the farmhouse next door. I would totally recommend both the property and the beautiful surrounding area although I have to be honest and say that the hairpin bend access up to the property isn't for the faint hearted. Luisa, Colin and Max were great and were able to give us help and advice when needed. All in all, a superb experience and introduction to both Tuscany and Italy. We have to return! The Sharpe Family

Wonderfull Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a Wonderfull week at La lucertola.Luisa and Colin are great hosts, there to offer advice and suggestions when asked but always unobtrusive respecting guests privacy. The farmhouse was tastefully decorated and contained everything necessary.Using the outside wood-fired pizza oven is a must.

The views from the farm house is breath-taking and well worth the adrenaline inducing drive from the village to the property,We also were lucky enough to experience a local river rafting trip organised by Luisa. Our two guides were professional and instantly likeable. The trip takes about 2hours including a short drive to and from the river. It is advisable to take spare clothes as you will get wet!We also took the opportunity to swim(wearing life jackets)down the rapids.Exhilarating!Lucca and Pisa well worth a visit.

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely marvellous stay at La Lucertola. The villa was just perfect with fantastic views across the beautiful surrounding landscape - and the owners were also incredibly friendly and helpful, providing us with a long list of places for us to visit and see on our trip.

We would absolutely recommend you stay here if you are looking for a peaceful Tuscan getaway.
