2 Nil Desperandum is a beautifully renovated, stylish, well equipped centrally heated cottage ideally located for exploring the Suffolk Heritage coast without having to travel too far. It was awarded a Visit Britain 4 star grading and is situated in the pretty village of Middleton midway between Southwold and Aldeburgh. The coastal villages of Dunwich, Aldeburgh, Walberswick, Thorpeness and Snape Maltings are all a short drive away. Middleton is off the beaten track with no through traffic and is one of Suffolk's best kept secrets. It comprises pretty cottages grouped around the green and overlooked by the church, it has a beautiful thatched pub which serves great food. A well stocked village store is situated in the next village, Westleton, one mile away. There is a large farm shop 2 miles away. Minsmere nature reserve is only 3.5 miles away (less by foot), Dunwich and the coast four miles, Southwold ten miles, Walberswick, seven miles and Aldeburgh seven miles.

Charming Characterful Comfortable Cosy Cottage
We had a lovely stay at 2-Nil Desperandum, the cottage had everything we needed and was very convenient for getting to shops/pubs/the beach! A particular highlight was a trip to the Electric Palace Cinema in Southwold. I would highly recommend this cottage, Julia (the owner) and her family clearly work hard to maintain the homely aesthetic, and their efforts do not go a miss! It's a shame we couldn't stay longer, but we'll be back for sure.
Chloe thank you. We try to make our cottages as homely as possible and I'm glad that this was evident during your stay.
Look forward to welcoming you again.
Lovely cottage in quiet village.
Enjoyed our few days in the cottage, very cosy and comfortable. Great position for visiting Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Snape Maltings, all within a few miles. We would have appreciated a few basics in the kitchen, kitchen towel in particular, perhaps some oil and condiments which have been available in other properties we have stayed in. But overall a lovely property.
So glad you enjoyed your stay and hope that you found the bottle of wine and sachets of sauces , sugars and seasonings that we leave.
It’s difficult to leave oils as people have so many dietary requirements these days.
Best wishes Julia
described accurately and welcoming on arrival.
very enjoyable. Good accommodation ideally situated to explore the area, most of which was new to us
Stop, you've found the perfect cottage.
I felt the need to post a review as I'm not sure how anyone could fail to give five stars to this little place. We've stayed in many holiday cottages and actually own one ourselves, and Nil Desperandum really wowed us.
The cottage itself is very pretty: lots of exposed ancient timbers and character by the bucketload. Tastefully and comfortably decorated, good bathrooms and kitchen, everything very clean and of genuinely high quality.
As the owner says in the helpful welcome folder, she has tried to think of everything to make for a comfortable stay. There's even a picnic basket to take out for the day. Lots of nice touches.
Yes, the stairs are very steep and unsuitable for those with poor mobility, but this is what you get with a character cottage, and there is a lovely twin bedroom with en-suite on the ground floor.
We found the garden to be both lovely and totally secure for our large rescue greyhound - the previous reviewer's dog must be a real escape artist!
The landlord at the local is a fun character. I suppose this could be read as 'over familiar' if that's your inclination. He made us chuckle.
The cottage is perfectly located for the Suffolk coast - not too far from either Southwold or Aldeburgh, both of which are delightful. Fabulous walking country, and just next to Minsmere reserve, lots of pretty villages around. Dunwich beach and The Ship Inn were my favourite places in the locality - long pebble beach with big waves, and a traditional pub with fab food and ales to retire back.
If we were going back to the Suffolk coast I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Nil Desperandum again.
We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at our cottage and found the delights that Suffolk can offer .
Nil Desperandum is very special to us and hope that we may welcome you and other visitors again
Gill from High Wycombe
A very comfortable and cosy cottage for our visit to Suffolk in April with efficient c/heating, comfy sofas and comfortable beds.As a true cottage it was compact but fine for two of us plus small dog. The carpeted steep and winding staircase with low headroom at the top could be dangerous but it was tastefully furnished, clean and the showeroom, bathroom and kitchen were easy to use and clean.Thr rear garden was not totally secure for a small dog but very pleasant. We visited the village pub once but found the landlord completely over familiar tho the food was ok and we did not reurn.Better to enjoy the lovely walk to Westleton to the Crown which we much preferred.
Gill thank you for your comments. I do hope you may stay again with us one day.
