The apartment is situated in the garden of a 1600's villa direct on lake. In the charming park with secular trees it is possible to sunbath in total relax. The villa is 10 min walk to the centre of Torno where you can find the charming lake atmosphere. Torno is recognized by the national tourist board as "bandiera arancione" that means it is one of the most beautiful village also thanks to his attention for tourism. This village offers restaurant and cafe with an amazing lake view, there is also a ferry point, so you can reach easily every place on the lake. CEG
The apartment is wonderfully quiet and set in beautiful grounds just outside Torno (15 minutes drive from Como). The apartment is lovely and light with a great bathroom and super shower. One of the lovely things about the grounds is the secret door that opens onto a great short walk into Torno. Torno is a lovely, unspoiled fishing village with local shop, a couple of excellent bars and some very good restaurants. There were 2 local weddings while we were there. Torno is ideally placed because it is a ferry stop making it simple to visit all over Lake Como by boat. We really recommend the sea-plan trip from Como! Fantastic views and a once in a lifetime experience of taking off and landing on water. Dr Jane Buckle & Dr Peter Davies. London UK.
The aparntmant was well equipped, very clean and easy accessible. parking was a bonus and the grounds were lovely. The owner was very helpful and we needed for nothing. I would suggest better directions very difficult to find and there is no washing machine or facilities to dry clothes. Also wifi would be good. Loved the secret door to access the tunnel into Torno, be careful on the road take the first set of steps down.
We must first thank Valentina and her husband for their warm welcome and help with settling in. They could not have been more considerate. The apartment is as described and was well suited to our needs and is set in beautiful grounds.
Other reviewers have mentioned the roadside walk into Torno. Yes it can feel a little daunting first time out but, as we observed on the white-knuckles bus ride to Bellagio (strongly recommended), none of the villages appear to have pavements,so you have to exercise due care and attention and make use of the many roadside mirrors. But it's well worth it to access Torno and its bars and "alimentari", bus and ferry stops. We especially enjoyed "happy Hour" at the Bar Italia; the free "snacks" were enough for an evening meal after a decent lunch.
We are both in our early 70's so if we can manage the walk so can others. At the time of year we were there it got dark too soon for us to go out after about 7.30, the road is not well lit, but after a full day visiting (and lunching) it was good just to relax in the apartment
We had a fabulous week, I tried out my fractured Italian with the locals which they seemed to appreciate. We made full use of the bus to Como and beyond, and the ferries. Villa Carlotta is worth a visit as are many of the other villages on this most beautiful of lakes.
Once again thank you Valentina for your welcome and help. Thanks to whoever was responsible for arranging such a superb week's weather!
My Wife and I stayed for two weeks. After the long drive from England we were met by Valentina who took time and effort to show us how things worked. We enjoyed the relative isolation and the fact that we were left to our own devices. Having the car available throughout the two weeks enabled us to move around the lakes and enjoy the fantastic rural villages all around. We took time to use trains and buses to get to Milan and do some shopping. We would recommend this to anyone wanting a quiet hassle free holiday. We couldn't find a beach to swim from and this was a little bit frustrating but still an excellent two week holiday. We found the best food at good prices down by the marina in como.
We stayed for four days with our son and his girlfriend - possibly it was a little cramped for four, but otherwise it was a well equipped apartment. We were greeted warmly by our hostess, who was very helpful in explaining everything to us. The apartment faced sideways on to the private park, so there no direct view of the lake, and if anything, it was a little dark. Do any of the apartments face directly down on to the lake? If so, ask to go to them. The park was wonderful, like a botanical garden, with all sorts of species of trees, and was really well-tended and watered, with wonderful winding alleyways and astonishing views over the lake. The gardeners were very friendly! I imagined before going there that the 10-minute walk to Torno would be along the lake. However, you had to walk up on to the former main road, go along for a few hundred meters, through an old tunnel and then out on to the present main road, which is narrow, twisting and dangerous. At times there is no sidewalk, so when traffic comes by, you have to hug the walls - not the best return after an evening meal! It is quite steep, so if you're not fit, you soon will be!
Torno itself is delightful and we tended to go to the Bar Italia for breakfast each day - a wonderful, welcoming restaurant, old-fashioned in the best sense. In the evenings we ate in the Hotel Vapore, and can recommend it without hesitation. One evening, we went to the hotel which is about 15 minutes on foot north of Torno (I'm sorry I can't remember its name, but it's made up of the initials of the owners and as it's the only hotel there it can't be missed). Excellent cuisine, big portions, wonderful view, but a hazardous road for pedestrians, so we didn't repeat the experience.
We spent a lot of time on the ferries, dropping in to visit the other nearby villages for coffee or an aperitif, visited Como and the funicular, walked up through the woods to the village of Montepiatto and wished we had more time to discover the mountain paths. One afternoon we took the ferry up to Bellagio, where we had originally thought of staying, and were glad we were in Torno instead. Bellagio is very touristy!
We had a car, but once it was parked near the apartment we didn't use it until we left. Everything is so accessible. If we had been there for longer we would no doubt have used it more to discover other areas, but it is not absolutely necessary. We will definitely return to Torno! Thank you to Valentina for her welcome.
WE spend the most fantastic holiday in this stunningly beautiful private garden. After a week we decided to extend our stay by another week. The apartment is perfectly equipped and very well maintained. Teh owners are extremly friendly and helpful and collected us from the bus stop and there was a gift of a bottle of Prosecco and fresh fruit to welcome us. The flat does not have a direct view of the lake but with the huge park round us which extends to the lake it really does not matter. The park is just incredible and although there are several other villas we hardly ever met anyone and it was wonderfully quiet and peaceful. We did not have a car and it is perfectly easy to get to places by either walking, buses or boats. WE will defintely come back! thanks again for making us so welcome!
Would have liked a washing machine, iron & ironing board as we stayed for a week. Walking from apartment to Torno ; closer to 15mins. (partly on main road ) was hazardous. This was not mentioned on website.
Use of vehicle essential.Apartment very clean & reasonable size. No views of lake from apartment.Hanging arrangements for clothes not good.
