Our lovely farmhouse has been renovated whilst retaining its rustic charm. There are 4 bedrooms and 3 shower/bathrooms. The house overlooks farmland and woodland with views down the valley to the Pyrenees. There is a terrace on the eastern side of the house where you can eat croissants in the glorious morning sunshine. As the sun goes overhead you may want to move to the pool. This is in a beautiful hillside setting sheltered by old buildings on two sides but with open views of the valley. The west facing terrace here is ideal for sun downers after a lazy day on holiday. Evening meals tend to be eaten in the open sided barn (abri) attached to the house which is so atmospheric when lit by candles fairy lights.
We are an English family with two teenage children and a Labrador who live in Kent. We spend most of our holidays in France but wherever I am, this place remains a sanctuary in my mind.
Sarah Chissell purchased this farmhouse in 2004
We came on holiday to this area and kept returning and eventually bought this house in 2004. We ended up taking a sabbatical to renovate the house and the children went to a local school where they learned to speak french with a gascogne accent. We love the area for the fabulous climate, the tranquility, rural french lifestyle, the proximity to the mountains and the feeling that you have stepped back in time. We genuinely enjoy sharing it with others who enjoys these simple pleasures of life
We enjoy the peaceful location whilst the children enjoy their freedom. In the day, they roam the woods, cycle along the quiet lanes or simply play in the pool. In the evenings they love walking to the nearby restaurant for a pizza without their parents!
"Beautiful, quiet location"
"Charming and homely house, beautiful setting for the pool"
"We will be booking to return next year"
Great family house; excellently kitted out with terrific kitchen; places to eat out following the sun, out of the sun and in the evening; fantastic pool which the grandchildren almost lived in!
Lovely part of France with great landscape, views, activities nearby, neighbouring Castelnau-Magnoac for good shopping and Saturday market.
We absolutely loved the house in Betpouy and had a very enjoyable week there. We enjoyed the tranquil location, sitting out eating and looking at the fabulous countryside view. The house was perfect and we felt very at home there! The heated pool was much used as well as the table tennis table, darts board and the boules. All in all it was a great holiday – thank you!
Just returned from a really wonderful week's holiday in Betpouy. We were two families, each with two children age ranges 10 to 17. The house comfortably accommodated us all throughout the four bedrooms one of which is ensuite the others being served by a large family bathroom, the beds were all very comfortable. The kitchen is superbly equipped with every conceivable item of equipment available and would cater comfortably for a number much greater then even our eight. All living areas in the house are comfortable and tastefully decorated and equipped with a nice collection of books, local information, a TV and DVD player. Outside areas reflect the spacious nature of the house itself, the pool area is great for soaking up the sun and alternatively cooling off in the good sized pool, kids and adults alike loved it. The patio area to the opposite side of the house was a favourite area with adults for early morning coffee and a read and evening BBQ's and drinks with a fabulous view over open farmland and the distant Pyrenees as a backdrop. We enjoyed a table tennis competition as well as boule and darts!
If for any reason you need to be "wired in" then the internet connection is not great but we were warned of this in advance and as i'd managed to go swimming with my iphone on the first morning made no difference to me! Digital detox!
We enjoyed a couple of trips to Chez le Forgeron, the local restaurant, we all enjoyed the pizza and salads as well as the peaceful aspect and unhurried service and would thoroughly recommend this as no driving is necessary. Our friends also dined at Duck and Chips and were equally impressed. We all took a trip into the Pyrenees for white water rafting which certainly was a big hit with both the kids and adults alike. The local markets are a great source of the fine local produce that the area has to offer, we particularly enjoyed some really excellent Basque cheese.
The process of booking was easy and communication with the owners was fantastic, an excellent guide to both the property and local activities was provided and we were welcomed and given an induction to the property by Cathie who is also available if there are any issues. The wine, beer and soft drinks were a lovely touch and much appreciated after a long drive.
Overall we would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this property for a family holiday and we certainly hope to return in the future.
The Giddings & Malcher Families
We stayed at Betpouy as an extended family of 9, including children and grandmothers. This is a wonderful house, a real home from home there is nothing Sarah has not thought of to make your stay enjoyable. There is a lovely table to sit the family inside ( for those occasional rainy days) to eat or play games and a great covered seating area outside for those sooo hot days when you need shade.
Everything in the house is top quality from the towels to the crockery. The pool is well looked after lovely and clear throughout our stay, the garden has fruit trees which produce wonderful fruits which you can pick and eat.
Sarah has lots of information about all the enjoyable things to do within the area, we had a great day rafting, and enjoyed a trip to Spain to buy some cheap booze. Several evening we just walked over to the local Pizza Place at the top of the hill just a 3 minutes walk from the house.
All in all a great summer holiday destination. With a great view when drinking your morning coffee.
Thank you Sarah
We have just spent two weeks at the farmhouse in Betpouy. There was plenty of room for all 9 of us. The house has everything you could want, where ever the sun was there was somewhere to sit, relax, have a meal or have pre dinner drinks. There was also plenty of shade for very hot days. Our group included some very enthusiastic cyclists and there were many cycling routes for them, offering challenging climbs for the energetic such as the Col Du Tourmalet. The heated pool was a great hit with us all. There were plenty of sun loungers and sun umbrellas, which we have found lacking in other rented accommodation. Unfortunately we didn’t get to the pizza restaurant in the hamlet as it was closed for their family vacation (last week in August), but we went to Duck and Chips which was divine and also had afternoon tea at the Tea Pot in Castelnau Magnoac. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time and hope to be back
We had 2 of the most perfect weeks even the weather was amazing the house is just superb in every way
We have stayed in many houses in France and this one just feels right, you can tell that the owners love it and it is a real treat to be allowed to stay in it
The pool is lovely and warm with a deep end so you can dive in
The little restaurant in the hamlet is very good and was visited on the odd occasion !
The local markets excellent and you can buy very drinkable wine for 7e for 5 litres . A trip to the Mountains is a must .
We WILL be back
