About Catherine Nolan
Having just retired from living many years in the Middle East we are enjoying splitting our time between France and the UK. When not in residence ourselves, we are happy for our home to be enjoyed by visitors to the town. We enjoy the slower pace and relaxing atmosphere of rural France whilst soaking up good food & fine wines in a pleasant climate. Our aim always is to make our guests feel welcome, relaxed and comfortable. Some of our guests, from as far afield as Australia, have now become good friends and we have many return bookings. We are constantly upgrading and making improvements. Tom & Catherine

Lovely week, in a quiet, rural setting
This is a charming old house in a very quiet village/town. That said, we enjoyed the bread from the local boulangerie and had a great meal in an Irish bar. The house is spacious and the terrace is great for reading a book in the morning when it's cooler, or drinking wine in the evening watching the sun set. Kids were thrilled to have good internet. The house has everything you need and more in terms of kitchen equipment etc. Contact from the owner was excellent. Bonus was that an annual national horse show (jumping) was set up while we were there and we had a day watching it for free! Some really good quality horses and riders and fences of 130cm plus, so it was high quality with some high drama!
Beautiful House, fabulous location. Hosts very helpful and great to deal with. Made the whole process easy. Would recommend ++++++ I want to go back😊
What an amazing house in a lovely part of France.
Well what can I say, we have just returned after spending a week at this lovely house. Catherine was so helpful from the minute we booked. She went out of her way to make our holiday special even visiting the local Tourist Office to pick up walking maps for us. The house is just perfect and had everything you could need including beach chairs and beach towels and even simple things like cling film, sauces, washing up liquid herbs and spices etc so it really feels like home from home they have thought of everything. The terrace is just perfect and we spent most nights sitting star gazing. Le Dorat is such a nice place to visit. We will certainly be returning again to this property and would highly recommend it.
A perfect French hideaway.
We really enjoyed our stay here, the house is extremely comfortable and very well equipped. The improvements that have been made to this house, particularly the bathroom and wet room give it a real touch of luxury. The house is well situated, Le Dorat has everything you need within easy walking distance and is just a short hop to Bellac for a perfect day fishing by the old bridge then back to Le Dorat to watch the sun go down from the roof terrace - with a glass in hand.
Catherine made booking our holiday a pleasure, always helpful and quick to answer our emails. The special offer for couples made our holiday great value too! Thank you Catherine - we hope to return one day soon. Steve & Sue, Cardiff.
we have stayed in this property three times now and we love it and will be returning later in the year. The property is very spacious and with the addition of a brand new wetroom and bathroom to the main bedroom it adds that extra bit of luxury. The property is ideally situated as a base to visit the surrounding countryside and the train station is a ten minute walk to visit the cities of Poitier or Limoges. There are many restaurants and shops in Le Dorat and the town has a beautiful cathedral to visit. All in all i can thoroughly recommend a stay in "Cedar House"
Le Dorat is situated within France's Lake District, however if a trip to the coast is preferred, the historic coastal resort of La Rochelle is the nearest and in our opinion well worth a visit if you have time. Although it is approximately 2 hrs 30 mins drive away, you can enjoy a full day to include the historic sights and also take in some of the lively evening entertainment of La Rochelle's street artists & entertainers around the harbour area.
Limoges airport is only 40 minutes drive away; Ryanair provide a scheduled service all year round from several locations in the UK (London Stansted: East Midlands: Manchester) and additional locations seasonally). Flybe operate a service from Southampton & British Airways have also now started operating from Gatwick. Advise contact airlines' websites for updated information.
By car, Le Dorat is located within easy reach of the A20 motorway between Paris and Toulouse (and on to Spain), and the TGV rail service from Paris to Poitiers, connects by local train to Le Dorat.
Lac de Saint-Pardoux 30 mins drive
Limoges City 40 minutes
Poitiers 1 hour
Roumazières-Loubert (velo rail) - one hour.20 minutes
Paris 3.5 hours
Calais 6 hours
Le Dorat has a choice of restaurants in the town as well as a number of cafe/bars/bistros where you can sit outside and enjoy a leisurely lunch. Shops include antiques, newsagent/books, gift shop, high quality ladies and gents fashions and a factory outlet for Limoges pottery. There is also a Cinema which shows the latest films in English one night per week. There are 2 banks, ATM, post office, pharmacy and an excellent Tourist Information office with English speaking staff.
There are several equestrian events held in Le Dorat during June, July & August and a National Show jumping competition is held towards end of August/beginning of September.
Further afield the scenic lakes of Saint-Pardoux and Vassiviere, which offer sandy beaches, water sports, fishing and beautiful walks, are well worth a visit. Horse riding, walking, cycling, and fishing are particularly popular in the area. Please note a daily or weekly fishing licence may be required.
Places of historical interest nearby include Oradour sur Glane, a martyr village that has been left as it was since 1944 after being destroyed by the Nazis.
Many historical chateaux and churches can be found in the area, including the pretty 13th century chateau at Rochechouart, with its museum of modern art both indoors and out.
Also the Reynou zoo in Le Vigen (south of Limoges) is well worth a visit; La Vallee des Singes (Monkey Sanctuary), the Aquarium du Limousin in Limoges and Les Loups Des Chabrieres (wolf sanctuary) near the Guéret Forest.
A new Elephant Sanctuary is opening in the area during 2017 - please Google for updated information.
Further afield there is a Velorail track (a cross between a train and a bicycle) for a fun day out for both children and adults. This can be found at Roumazières-Loubert. Futuroscope, on the outskirts of Poitiers, offers an innovative theme park noted to be one of the best parks in France.
