Why George & Anne Johnstone chose Altenmarkt im Pongau
We had been visiting the Altenmarkt area for many years, mainly to ski and we finally decided to get a place of our own in an area which is easily accessible and in a real village which doesn't close down out of season. We bought direct from the builder, designed the layout ourselves and resisted the urge to cram lots of bedrooms into its 150sq metres. We like lots of space and cant bear to que for bathrooms in the morning or when we come back from the slopes so unlike most holiday accommodation in Austria it has a bathroom for every bedroom and a very large living room with a separate dining area. It was designed to be a very comfortable family home, not just holiday accommodation.
What makes this Apartment unique
We love the convenience of being able to walk to the shops and restaurants in the village and in summer we love to sit in the garden enjoying the view of the surrounding countryside. It is also very convenient for skiing with skibus stops close by for Altenmarkt, Zauchensee and Flachau. We normally have a car so the Flachau or Eben systems are only a ten minute drive away with most of the Amade system easily reachable for a day trip, our particular favourites being Zauchensee and the Hock Konig.

This is an extremely large apartment that is exceptionally well equipped and looked after. There is plenty of space for the maximum number of guests and unlike many advertised places this lives up to the billing. The owners have done a great job in planning the layout and the furnishings. The best beds we have slept on during a five week holiday through Europe.
Julie and Iain, the local managers, are wonderful and full of local information and very helpful in many other ways.
This is not just a property for winter skiing but is available all year round and well worth a visit when the snows have gone or are yet to appear. Many great places to visit and Salzburg is a lovely place to spend the day. Ski lifts are open during the summer and hikers and cyclists will be in their element.
There are restaurants and cafes within walking distance and even more if you are prepared to travel a bit further.
We would recommend this apartment to anyone as being well above the norm.
This is a wonderful apartment, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We were met by Julie and Ian who are so very friendly and helpful, they have all the local knowledge you'd ever need! I wish I could have packed up the kitchen and brought it home! Perfect for us and our two dogs, a very short walk to the centre of Altenmarkt and a perfect location for seeing this part of Austria. Couldn't fault it, we will be back next summer for longer.
Perfect apartment for exploring the area
We stayed in this amazing apartment for two weeks and it was just perfect. Hugely spacious, modern and clean, it had everything we could possibly need. The village was lovely and an ideal base for exploring the local area. Julie and Iain McLain, who manage the apartment were incredibly helpful and nothing was too much trouble. They gave us lots of information about the local places to visit and some lovely restaurants. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this apartment to others, and would love to return here one day.
Practically perfect in every way.
The fact that we have returned again and again to rent this great apartment speaks for itself. We first rented in 2010, and have continued to do so every year since. Here are some of the reasons why we keep coming back...
Pros: There is LOTS of space and a bathroom for everyone, plus one to spare. The apartment has the best equipped rental kitchen I have ever had the pleasure to use. It is very nicely furnished, with the comfiest, largest sofa! You have an underground, secure, car parking space. There's a private ski locker with boot warmers for your use. It's a very short walk from the front door to the lovely restaurants and shops in Altenmarkt. It's also a very short drive to some great skiing! There is a ski bus that runs regularly from just across the road that takes you to Altenmarkt slopes (under 5 minutes away), and Zauchensee, as well as to Flachau in the opposite direction, so you don't need to hire a car. You really do have to go and explore the Ski Amade region! The apartment also has a lovely garden with BBQ and furniture for the spring and summer.
Julie and Iain McLain, the property managers, are a font of local knowledge, lovely people, always there if you need them, but never obtrusive.
Cons: No washing machine (but there is one for communal use in the buildings basement laundry room - make sure you have lots of 50c pieces!). And that really is it!
I can't recommend this apartment highly enough. Thank you George and Anne; we've had some really memorable holidays here.

Riesige Wohnung mit 3 Schlafzimmern, 3 Badezimmern, ein extra Gäste-WC, gut ausgestattete große Küche, großes Wohnzimmer, Terasse und kleiner Garten. In der Tiefgarage gibt es 2 reservierte Parkplätze, weitere Parkmöglichkeiten direkt am Haus. Super Ausgangspunkt für unseren Skiurlaub in der Region. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und Restaurants in Fußentfernung. Schnelles Internet kostenfrei in der Wohnung.
Besoders hervorheben muss man die ganz liebe Betreuung vor Ort durch Julie und ihren Mann. Danke!
