Restored Farmhouse and Winery Apartment - Ideally Suited For Visiting Florence And Tuscany Or Just Relaxing

Holiday accommodation available on a British owned olive farm in Tuscany. This is conveniently located in the Montalbano Hills south of Pistoia, about 30 minutes drive from Florence and her airport and a little less than an hour from Pisa and her airport. There is plenty to enjoy for all ages and whatever interests, be these cultural, gastronomic, sporting or if you simply want to relax. Accommodation consists of a farmhouse, 'la Casa Colonica', which sleeps up to 11 and an apartment for up to 6 in the old winery, called 'la Cantina'. Additionally, there are some smaller houses on the farm which can also be rented. There is a good sized, fenced and illuminated swimming pool and the accommodation is modern and well appointed. Maid service, cooking and babysitting can be arranged at a fair price. This is an ideal place for parties of any configuration up to 16 or even 17 to base themselves while enjoying Tuscany at any time of the year.

Please note: From 29 April to 1 Oct, La Cantina is only available in combination with La Casa Colonica as the pool is let exclusive to the main house. However, last minute enquiries (4 weeks prior) for La Cantina alone, will be welcome.

The Winery of 'La Cantina' is the large building in which the farm's wine and, still today, olive oil, is stored and cared for. Within the buiding, the 'Factor's' (or 'Farm Manager's') apartment has been completely modernised. La Cantina apartment can be booked in tandem with the Casa Calonica and is an ideal place for quieter family members who might wish to put a little space between them and any louder family members.

Kitchen / Dining Room - gas hob, electric oven and toaster. Dishwasher, washing machine and fridge freezer.

Sitting Room - fire place.

About Mark Ridley

British and recently retired (early), I have now settled in Italy on the property my parents bought in 1965. My career has been in a multinational environment and I have lived in many parts of the world including several European countries, Cyprus, Turkey, South America and I have spent significant time in the Middle East. Now I am working harder than ever on our olive farm where we also rent out these holiday homes. My assistant, Vaida, helps in hosting guests. My interests include history, travel and Italian culture and gastronomy.

Lovely accomodation in a peaceful location

We really enjoyed our stay in La Cantina in March this year. The house is perfectly situated for visiting Florence and Pisa and we found plenty to do locally too.

Mark was an excellent host and was even able to interest our four teenagers in the process of producing olive oil.

The highlights of our stay included: A guided tour of Florence with Antonia - a guide recommended by Mark, who showed us 'hidden Florence', A visit to the local restaurant next door and also to another called La Cassetta, about 20 minutes away in San Baronto (both restaurants had a set menu of exquisite Tuscan food and were able to provide excellent gluten free food for my coeliac daughter) and finally the chance to sit on the patio drinking Chianti, eating bread and olive oil and listening to the birds.

Further Details:

Being close to so many towns of historic and artistic interest, there are places you should definitely visit. But then also there are sports opportunities and excellent restaurants and shops to enjoy. Most people who stay tend to mix these with a great deal of relaxation by the pool; it is an ideal place to conduct a visit in the morning, lunch and spend the afternoon around the pool and occasionally go out to a good restaurant in the evening.

Towels (including pool) are provided. Linen and towels are changed weekly. All accommodation is centrally heated (extra charge) for the winter and provided with fans for the summer. As the properties are in the countryside, a car is essential. There are no hidden charges. Outside: The properties are about 40 meters apart and are set within an olive grove, surrounded by private land and have sweeping views over the countryside. The illuminated and fenced swimming pool is 11m x 5.5m; use will be private and never shared. There are 2 pergolas and a simple garden with outdoor and pool side furniture, including a barbecue.
