About Paul and Kate
Paul and Kate moved to France in 2006 lured by the adventure of a new life and sunny weather. We are both keen triathletes (swim, bike, run) and we found the South West of France perfect for everything outdoors. Paul is a veteran of over 20 years in international triathlon and cycling.
Paul and Kate purchased this House in 2006
Why Paul and Kate chose Gurs
We visited this beautiful part of France in 2006 and fell in love with the inspiring countryside, the friendly welcome and the regional cuisine. Our house is easily reached from the UK and is set in a rural village with mountains, beaches, river valleys, little market towns and beautiful cities all within easy reach.
What makes this House unique
We are on hand to offer friendly advice and help during your stay. Should you want a completely relaxing holiday we can offer home cooked regional food, shopping, cleaning and transfers. We can also make reservations for a restaurant and visits to local attractions. We can also offer bike hire for the keen cyclist wanting to try out the Tour de France mountains or the quiet woodland trails on top of the range road bikes.

Lovely house in lovely area
Beautifully equipped and well laid out house with comfy beds and everything you would need for a super holiday.
Despite having rain for a lot of our 2 weeks (!), there was enough to do locally and the house was a welcome haven. Good shopping and restaurants reasonably nearby, interesting history, wine tasting and fab drives into the Pyrenees.
It was a real pleasure to have you stay & a big thank you for the review. Look forward to seeing you and the family sometime in the future!
Simply the best
This has been a most enjoyable and relaxing stay. The beautiful house, the lovely garden and the rural countryside has catered for everything; Life by the pool, early morning jogs on roller-coaster trails, cycling (Magnus is just one big win after each time he has been out with Paul) and lazy walks peeping into the gardens of the neighbouring houses and farms.
The pool has been the best amusement ever for the children. I swear they have webbed feet now!
We could easily have another week of this, the cheese, the wine, the ripe fruits, the ease of putting on your trainers and heading out.
I think we may have to come back next year to explore the surroundings.

Great place, great region, great food, great hosts
We had a lovely time here in Gurs and surrounds. You are good company, great hosts and the house, garden and pool are fantastic. Bottom line, it's been great being here as a family - very welcoming, very easy, a taste of life in France and something for everyone. Would we come back given half a chance . . . Yes!
Wine - Le Cellier d'Heino in Navarrenx - good advice & wine
Cheeses, jams & bread -
Loved the goats cheeses & brebis from Navarrenx recommended by the wine shop, the local cherry conserve with them and the bio breads from Navarrenx bio shops; long live la baguette cereale!
Activities & sport:
Swimming in the pool with tuition by Paul - an absolute game changer for us both in terms of efficient stroke and power delivery, with training drills
Yoga with Anna
Fly-fishing organised by Kate with Hervé
Day trip with picnic up to Col du Somport, learning of the history of the Fort and Pass, crossing into Spain, coming back via La Pierre St Martin. A great day (with swimming lessons to follow!)
Eating out: We tried the Menu du Jour at the Auberge de la Fontaine at Laàs on Paul & Kates advice for lunch. Suberb! No question.
Camp de Gurs - (and indeed the whole area) is well worth a visit, we did some online reading and this area brings so much history alive - religous, military of Spain & WW2, political, just so interesting.
Navarrenx, Laàs & Oloron lovely (went to the Lindt shop at the factory) + so many little towns.
So much more yet to do: skiing in the Pyrénées, fishing the Gave d'Oloron & other Gaves, running the trails, cycling the flats and hills with Paul - someone who knows and does at high performance level, kayaking, rafting . . . more reading"!
