From the warm welcome we got from Elizabeth and her dogs to the farewell, we were truly made to feel at home in this stunning cottage.
Upon arriving we saw the cottage which looked shut, so we ventured back down the lane to the Ivy Bridge Farm where we were greeted by Elizabeths dogs which we were lovely. Following that Elizabeth directed us back the cottage were she ran through everything from how to heat the water up, put the heating on, etc and din't leave any stone unturned. We knew from this diligent welcome that we had struck gold and that we were not going to anything less than impressed with our entire holiday.
We have a 17 month old who was fine here, so if you're worried about that side of things, then worry not. She was free to wander around at her leisure and was more than happy to do so. All of the floors were hard furnished, so you will have to keep your 3rd eye on little ones if they are not used to that or are still very unstable. High chair, cot and a lovely warm welcome were all in place for our little girl. She loved going out in the morning to say hello to the cows in the next field!
There was a veritable library of information from books, leaflets and DVD's about atractions in and about Ireland to hand and if you wanted more, Elizabeth made sure you got comprehensive information.
Location - A great location for exploring the West / Southern end of Ireland. You will need to drive a fair amount to get the most out of your stay, but I think this would be the case anywhere you would stay as there are so many amazing things to see and do all over the place. Top place for me was Killarney and the Ring of Kerry which took us to some stunning locations through the national park. Balarney Castle and grounds is something to behold and just down the road - take my advice and plan to spend the whole day there, there is so much to see.
Mallow to the north of where you are staying is a 15 min drive away and their is a small Tesco, Lidle and a good number of Take-aways / shops. It's a small town which feels a bit run down, but it served well to get all your essentials and or takeaways in the evening if you were staying in in the evenings like us.
Cottage - Stunning, beautiful and authentic. With it's floral frontage, open beams, thatched roof and high ceilings, you could ask for no more. Clean, tidy and very well maintained.
The hostess Elizabeth was fantastic. The property was perfect for the home away from home feeling. We did a self-drive tour of the South and East, the location of this property was perfect. There was some construction going on the main highway, but we quickly learned the backroads. Very close to Mourneabbey and several villages (including Mallow). The house was very functional and the photos are an exact representation of what you get. I would stay here again and again. (Hint: if you are a coffee drinker like I am. Better bring some instant with you. We found a coffee pot under a cabinet, but it was much easier to use the tea pot to boil water)
